Wellsville, NY - Vernon J. Barlow, 76, of 26 Pine Street died unexpectedly on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital in Buffalo following a long struggle with Parkinson Disease. He was born on May 7, 1933 in Wellsville the son of Vernon and Jenny (Cole) Barlow.
Vern was a 1952 graduate of Wellsville High School. He joined the U.S. Army in February of 1953 and served in the Korean War until February of 1956. He was employed at Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville from 1956 until his retirement in 1995. He was a 53 year member of the Morrison-Hayes Post 702 American Legion; he enjoyed all sports, especially his beloved Yankees, the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres. He loved yard work, landscaping, flower gardens and keeping his house and yard looking great. He also loved animals; his cats were very special to him.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Duffy) Barlow, a son, Master Sergeant David (Lynda) Barlow USAF of Knoxville, TN, a daughter, Tracy (Jeff Starks) Barlow of Andover, two granddaughters, Hannah and Lauren Barlow and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Pastor Dick Helms presiding. Burial, with military honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Belmont. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the SPCA Serving Allegany County or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
