Michael E. Faber, 59

Olean, NY – Michael E. Faber, 59, of 132 North Union Street, unexpectedly died at home. He was born in Wellsville on January 22, 1963 the son of James R. Sr. and Katherine E. (Gordnier) Faber. 

Michael was a 1981 graduate of Andover Central Schools. He worked in the healthcare industry as a Home Health Aide for most of his career. He enjoyed spending time with and interacting with his “folks”. Outside of work he liked to cook, hunting, fishing, watching movies, walks with his dog Buster, and was a die-hard Buffalo Bills fan – sporting head-to-toe gear on game days. 

He is survived by: two sons, Adam Faber and Jon Faber, both of Wellsville; a grandson, Braylon Faber of Angelica; his mother, Katherine E. Frantz of Olean; a brother, James R. (Kim) Faber of Honeoye Falls; a sister, Robin K. (Thomas) Bowser of Olean; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by: his father, James; and a grandson, Andre Faber.

Francis “Fran” L. Lanphier, 88

Wellsville, NY -  Francis “Fran” L. Lanphier, 88, of 249 N. Main Street passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born May 19, 1934 in Bath, the son of the late Dallas and Viva (Austin) Lanphier. On November 26, 1958 in Scio he married the love of his life Joan Marie Tucker who predeceased him on December 29, 1998.

Fran was raised in Wellsville and was a 1952 Graduate of Wellsville High School. He began his career with the G. LaRue Sears Insurance Company in Belmont and was employed later by C.E. Air Preheater Company in Wellsville. He then became a salesman for J T’s General Store in Wellsville and was eventually promoted to manager. He also owned and operated Lanphier Enterprises for many years in Wellsville.

Fran was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wellsville, a 25 year member of the McEwen Hose Company #4, a past vice president and coach of the Wellsville Little League, and a former boy scout leader. He was also an associate member of the Morrison Hayes Post # 702 American Legion in Wellsville, and enjoyed his daily visits with the Coffee Club at McDonalds.

Fran is survived by: a son Ronald (Barb) Lanphier of Wellsville, a daughter in law Lana of Lakewood, NY; three grandchildren Jenn Lanphier of Wellsville, Scott Lanphier of Scio, and Kelly (Mike) Schifano of Lakewood, NY. Five great-grandchildren; Hailey, Abigail, and Kennedy Lanphier and Mia and Cooper Schifano. A brother in law Russell (Susan) Tucker of Scio, Sister in Law Corinne Tucker of Grand Praire, TX. Niece Angela (Jayson) Chandler of Scio, NY, Nephews, Jason (Dawn) Tucker of Hinsdale, NY, and Ryan Tucker of Scio. Great Nieces Mackenzie and Alyshia Chandler of Scio and Kendall Tucker of Hinsdale, NY. In addition to his parents and love of his life, Fran was predeceased by a son Michael Lanphier in 1997, his sister Margaret “Peggy” Converse and a brother in law Larry Tucker.

Friends are invited to celebrate Fran’s life on Monday, June 13, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville (34 W. State Street) and on Tuesday, June 14, from 10:00 -11:00 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 470 N. Main Street in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation at 11:00 am in church with Reverend Dr. Eric Ash Sr. presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. James J. McAndrew, 90

Wellsville, NY – James J. McAndrew, 90, of 28 Orchard Place, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in the Town of Ward on October 29, 1931 the son of the late George P. and Carroltta (Corwin) McAndrews. On December 22, 1956 in Andover, he married his wife of sixty-five years, Carolyn Arnold, who survives. 

Jim was raised in Ward, he was a 1951 graduate of Alfred Almond Central School. He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving from 1955-1957 on the USS Shakori AFT 162 and the USS Preserver ARS 8. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by Dresser Rand Corporation in Wellsville for 38 years, working his way from a Test Floor Electrician to a Section Manager, and retired in June of 1995. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover. He enjoyed Drag Racing where he won numerous races in various classes, loved anything with an engine, playing golf, and horse shoes. 

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by: two sons, Gregory (Cheryl) McAndrew of Wellsville, and Brian (Kathy) McAndrews of Friendship; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by: six brothers, Louis R., Francis C., Howard C., Vincent L., and George F. McAndrews and Edward J. Dougherty; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth (McAndrew) Holenbeck. 

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and on Thursday, June 9, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the J.W. Mary Catherine Linza, 92

Wellsville, NY – Mary Catherine Linza, 92, of State Route 19S, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born February 18, 1930 in Wellsville the daughter of the late John and Florence (Logue) Bastian. On August 30, 1947 in Shongo, she married her husband of 66 years, Donald R. Linza, who predeceased her on December 1, 2013. 

Mary Kay was raised in Shongo, and was a graduate of Wellsville High School. Upon graduation she entered the work force and was employed by the Kaiser Glove Factory in Wellsville. A hard worker throughout her life, she made rolls for the Linza Meat Market for many years, as well as a multitude of home based employment, and loving family activities. She was a member of the Shongo Ladies Aid, and the former Shongo United Methodist Church. 

She is survived by: three sons, Don (Donita) Linza of Wellsville, Stephen (Judy) Linza of Whitesville, and Todd (Sharla) Linza of Enid, OK; a daughter, Vicki (Charles) White of Wellsville; six grandchildren, Michelle Denhoff, Richard (Stephanie) Linza, Mark (Janine) Linza, Cullen Linza, Evan Linza, and Nicole White; nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way; two sisters, Shirley Bush of Holly, and Juanita Bastian of Rochester; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by: a daughter, Marilyn Ruth Linza; a grandson, Aaron J. White; and siblings, Larue Conner, Paul Bastian, and Thelma Cott.
