Junietta "June" Sheridan

Wellsville, NY - Junietta "June" Sheridan, age 81, of the Trapping Brook Road passed away on Sunday, September 28 2014, in her home. She was born on April 14, 1933 in Wellsville to Walter and Edna (Walden) Coy. On June 26, 1954 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville she married William Sheridan who predeceased her in October of 1970.

June lived in Rochester from 1954 until 1964 at which time she and her family moved to Leroy. In 1982 she returned to Wellsville and worked at the Wellsville Manor as a Certified Nursing Assistant. June later transferred to the activities department where she served as the assistant activities director and went on to become the director. In that capacity she belonged to the Southern Tier Activities Association and served as Vice President of that organization. June had been a member of the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps where she held several offices. June was the matriarch of her family who was well respected by all who knew her. She was an avid reader who enjoyed playing the piano and singing.

Survivors include: 4 sons, Patrick (Sharon) Sheridan of Lakeville, Daniel Sheridan of Wellsville, Stephen (Laura) Sheridan of Wellsville and John (Michele) Sheridan of Wellsville; 3 daughters, Linda (John) Hayes of Wellsville, Gail Sheridan Rochester and Sandra (Gary) Ordway of Wellsville; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a brother Richard Coy of Arizona; a sister Sharon Balch of Wellsville and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband , her mom and dad, a granddaughter Amy Elizabeth Sheridan,  her brothers Walter, Dale and Arnold Coy; her sister Dawn Coy.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday October 1, from 7-9 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. A Prayer Service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday in the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11 am in the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will take place in St. Francis Cemetery in Leroy and memorials in June's name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Beatrice I. (Morehouse) Mueckl

Orlando, FL - Beatrice I. (Morehouse) Mueckl, age 83, passed away on Tuesday September 23, 2014 in Winter Park, Florida. She was born in Belmont on January 26, 1931 to Oscar W. and Ruth I.( Smith ) Morehouse. On June 29, 1968 in Folkston, Georgia she married Joseph S. Mueckl who predeceased her on October 22, 1994.

Bernice grew up in Belmont where she graduated from High School. She had lived in Colorado, Washington State, Arkansas, Alabama and most recently Florida. Bernice worked for many restaurants including the former Candland and American Restaurants in Belmont. After returning to Florida she was a cafeteria manager for the Bonneville Elementary School in Orlando until her retirement.

Beatrice is survived by a brother Ronald (Linda) Bigelow of Orlando, FL.; 3 nieces and 5 nephews; Step children Yvonne, Dawn, Randy (Brenda) Mueckl of Hunt, N.Y.

She was predeceased by a brother Lloyd Morehouse; a step brother Lewis Bigelow Jr.; a step sister Beatrice Bigelow Bliss.

Friends are invited to call on Saturday September 27 from 1 pm to 2 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Belmont. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm in the funeral home with Reverend Dick Helms presiding. Linda D. (Niles) Thompson

Belmont, NY - Linda D. (Niles) Thompson, 53, of 5433 County Road 48 passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 18, 2014 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. She was born December 5, 1960 in Cuba the daughter of the late Charles and Betty (Stives) Niles. On April 30, 2011 in Scio she married Brian Thompson who survives.

Linda was a graduate of Cuba High School, where she was a proud member of the “Cuballeros”. She was employed as a cook at several restaurants in Allegany County. She was a T-Ball coach for the Cuba Farm League; she sang at many wedding over the years and played the drums with various local bands.

Surviving in addition to husband is a stepson, Kenny Thompson of Belmont, a sister, Lois (Richard) Edwards of Allentown, her father and mother-in-law, Barry and Judy Thompson of Black Creek, as well as several nieces & nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Dolores Edwards and Beverly Perkins and several nephews.

Harold J. Slocum

West Almond, NY - Harold J. Slocum, age 84, of the Karr Valley Road passed away on Wednesday September 10, 2014 at the Bath V.A. He was born on June 22, 1930 in Genesee, Pennsylvania to Harold and Phyllis Goodridge Slocum. In 1954 Harold married the love of his life Jean Stockin in Arcade who survives. 

Harold graduated from Wellsville High School where he excelled in sports and music. He was offered scholarships to attend college for both music and football but enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country from September of 1949 until November of 1952. Harold then went to work for General Motors at the Chevy Plant in Tonawanda where he worked for 30 years. He later moved with Jean to West Almond to enjoy their retirement. Harold enjoyed playing the violin and listening to music especially the Zither.

Harold is survived by his wife Jean; a son Gary Slocum of West Virginia; 4 grandchildren, Jason, Michelle and Rachel Lowe and Tina Davis; 7 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; a son in law Arthur Lowe of Las Vegas; several, nephews and cousins.

Harold was predeceased by a daughter Linda Slocum Lowe and 2 brothers Dick and Doug Slocum.

Howard G. Cooper

Wellsville, NY - Howard G. Cooper, 84, of 1939 Stannards Road passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born December 15, 1929 in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late Herbert and Ann (Reel) Cooper. On May 30, 1963 in Townville, PA he married Genevieve Anderson who survives.

Howard was a 1952 graduate of Ohio State University. He was president of the Herbert Cooper Company of Genesee, PA.

Walter P. Cole Sr.

Wellsville, NY - Walter P. Cole Sr., 75, of 4483 Niles Hill Road passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the home of his son in Friendship. He was born July 8, 1939 in Wellsville, the son of the late Peter and Lena (Johnson) Cole. On October 14, 1960 in Angelica he married Alice M. Demick who predeceased him on January 2, 1998.

Walter was a graduate of Wellsville High School. He was first employed at Scoville Brown Grocery in Wellsville for several years and later for Macler Industries in Friendship; until his retirement. He played football and wrestled in High School and enjoyed bowling throughout his life.

He is survived by three sons, Donald (Robin) Cole of Friendship, Walter Cole Jr. and Brian (Judy) Cole both of Wellsville, nine grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica, Jenna, Donny, Joshua, Doug, Hollie, and Justin Cole and Carina Miles, 11 great grandchildren, one sister, Lucille Hackett of Wellsville as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents and wife by one brother, Irwin Cole and two sisters, Phyllis Cole and Alice Vandruff.

Robert E. “Taters” Donovan

Wellsville, NY - Robert E. “Taters” Donovan, 75, of 116 N. Highland Avenue passed away on Saturday, September 06, 2014 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. He was born October 7, 1938 in Wellsville, the son of Francis and Ella (Vogel) Donovan.

“Taters” was a 1956 graduate of Allentown High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving from 1962 to 1964. He was a 32 year employee of Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville; retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Wellsville Moose Lodge #601, Morrison-Hayes Post #702 American Legion and the Thelma Rogers Genealogical and Historical Society. He enjoyed antiquing, reading and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Floy (Miller) Donovan, two daughters, Melissa Donovan of Wellsville and Erin (Tom) Swimley of Knoxville, PA, five grandchildren, August, Magnus, Stevia, Gunnar and Larson Swimley, one sister, Doris Mingus of Wellsville, one brother, Donald (Carol) Donovan of Cuba as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Donovan Jr.

Mary Jane Greene

Wellsville, NY - Mary Jane Greene, 87, of 11 Lunn Court passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center following a brief illness. She was born April 29, 1927 in Sugarcreek, PA, the daughter of the late Walter and Edith (Sloss) Sibble. On August 27, 1949 at the Wellsville United Methodist Church she married Robert Greene who survives.
 
Mary Jane was a graduate of Wellsville High School. She was employed as a switchboard operator for New York Telephone and Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville. She loved to cook for her family, crochet and sew.
 
Surviving in addition to her husband is one son, Thomas A. (Glenna) Greene of Lakeland, Florida, six grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a son, John Greene, a brother Daniel and four sisters, Mabel, Ruth, Martha and Evelyn.
