Richard J. Ryan

Wellsville, NY - Richard J. Ryan of Hanover Hill Road passed away on Wednesday April 28, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born on November 29, 1936 in Wellsville to Arnold and Sylvia Ostrander Ryan. On September 17, 1955 in Brooklyn he married Dolores Catracala who survives him.

Rich served with the U.S. Marine Corps and later was the owner of General Roofing and Heating Company in Wellsville. He was an active man who enjoyed his grandchildren and working in his vegetable garden. Rich was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.

Survivors include: His wife Dolores; his Mother and step father Angelo and Sylvia D'Ariano of Andover; a son Ion Ryan of Wellsville; grandchildren, Richard Pierce, Rebecca Sanchez, Chyanne Ryan and Courtney Ryan; 2 sisters Patricia Murphy and Cathy Gordiner and a sister in law Cathy Ryan; several nieces and nephews.

Rich was predeceased by his father Arnold Ryan, his daughter Yvonne Ryan and a brother Dave Ryan.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday May 1 at 11:30 am in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Monsignor Vincent Becker will be the Celebrant and memorials in Rich's name may be made to the Immaculate Conception School in Wellsville. Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville.

Dolores Auriel Sibble

Wellsville, NY - Dolores Auriel Sibble a former resident of 117 Trapping Brook Road Trapping Road passed away on Tuesday April 27, 2010 at the Highland Health Care Center. She was born on June 26, 1915 in Sheffield, PA, to George and Eunice Keifer Shepard. On September 15, 1934 she married C. Daniel Sibble who predeceased her on December 30, 1993.

Dolores was a long time resident of Trapping Brook Road who loved to play bridge with her neighbors during the 1940's and 1950's. She had worked for a short time at Air Preheater and liked to travel. Dolores loved having her family around and was a wonderful grandmother to all of her many grand, great and great great grandchildren.

Survivors include: 3 daughters, Donna Fox of St. Petersburg, FL., Deanna (William) Wonderling of Wellsville and Diane (James) Jennings of Churchville; a son Donald (Michele) Sibble of Wellsville; a daughter in law Rita Sibble of Wellsville; 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren; a sister Pearl Childress of Wellsville and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son David Sibble in 1997; a grandson Dean Wonderling in 1985; 3 sisters, Ruth Zaffino, Opal Littlefield and Virginia Williams.

Friends may call on Friday from 7-9 pm and on Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville where her funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday. Rev. Robin George will preside and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials in Dolores's name may be giving to either the American Cancer Society or to the Highland Health Care Activities Center.

Roger L. Herring

Wellsville, NY - Roger L. Herring, 65, of 2117 Petrolia Road died on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Wellsville Highland Healthcare Center. He was born March 23, 1945 in Scranton, PA the son of the late John and Marjorie (Rodney) Herring. On August 7, 2004 in Stannards he married Stacey Smith Matteson who survives.

Roger was a graduate of Lyndonville High School and was a member of the Ashwood Methodist Church. He was employed as a steel fabricator for 20 years in Medina. He has resided in Wellsville area for seven years and enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sisters, Barbara Farrell of Medina and Marjorie Duffield of Wellsville, one brother, Donald (Deanna) Herring of Lyndonville as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Herring.

At Roger's request, there will be no visitation or memorial service. Memorial donations are suggested to any charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville.

Paul F. "Bus" Studer

Wellsville, NY - Paul F. "Bus" Studer, 92, of 761-A Stone Dam Road died at home on Sunday, April 25, 2010. He was born on May 14, 1917 in Wellsville the son of Frederick and Alvina (Chandler) Studer. He was married to Virginia Mae Ellsworth who predeceased him on February 20, 1960.

"Bus" was a life long resident of the Town of Willing, he was educated at the Stone Dam one room school house and served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He began his career working in the oil fields for Bradley Producing; he later served for many years as Highway Superintendent for the Town of Willing and after he retired from the town he was a self employed heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the NRA and was associated with the York's Corners Mennonite Church.

He is survived by six children, Frederick Studer of Rexville, Paula (Jim) Borden of Centralia, IL, Robert (Bonnie) Studer of Greenwood, Wanda (Samuel) Shon of Huntington Beach, CA, Donna Jones and Edward (Marcia) Studer both of Wellsville, several grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one sister, Lorena Condon of Wellsville and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by five children, William Studer, Sandra Studer, Shirley Cornelius, Nancy Brundage and Daniel Studer, one grandson, Robert Studer Jr., two sisters and two brothers.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00 am at the York's Corners Mennonite Church with Rev. Eugene Miller presiding. Burial will be in York's Corners Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the SPCA Serving Allegany County.

Evelyn L. Devore

Wellsville, NY - Evelyn L. Devore, 103, formerly of 152 Madison Street died on Tuesday, April 06, 2010 at the Wellsville Highland Healthcare Center. She was born November 14, 1906 in the Township of Ward, the daughter of Archie and Margaret (Reynolds) Baker. On September 8, 1938 in Wellsville she married John E. Devore who predeceased her on March 26, 1979.

She was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School, Wellsville High School and St. Vincent's Charity Hospital, School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio in 1929. For 50 years she was employed as a registered nurse, serving as a private duty nurse and training nurse's aides for the American Red Cross during World War II. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Immaculate Conception Altar and Rosary Society, the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Allegany County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Allegany County Registered Nurses Association.

She is survived by several nieces & nephews including, A. Michael Baker and John J. Dean both of Wellsville. In addition to her husband, she predeceased by a son, James A. Devore, four sisters, Mary Porter, Catherine 'Kit" Dean, Gertrude Baker and Margaret Glending and one brother, James J. Baker.

Friends are invited to call on Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 am in the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 12:00 noon in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with Monsignor Vincent Becker as Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville. Memorial donations are suggested to the Immaculate Conception School or any charity of the donor's choice.

Charles G. Austin

Belmont, NY - Charles G. Austin of 4935 B State Route 19 South passed away at home on Friday April 2, 2010. He was born on August 23, 1924 in Dale to Cecil and Gertrude Poste Austin. Charlie was predeceased by his first wife Eleanor and on October 16, 1993 in Kensington Maryland he married Mary Frazer who survives.

Charlie was a long time resident of Belmont who graduated from Wyoming Central School and for most of his life he was a dairy farmer. Charlie transported Allegany County residents to their doctor appointments, later he drove for Meals on Wheels and he sold corn and rhubarb from his home. He liked square dancing and enjoyed attending the country music sessions on Mondays and Thursdays in Wellsville. Charlie had a great sense of humor and his joke telling will be missed. He will be remembered as an independent man who was too proud to ask for help but was always willing to help others when asked. His memberships include: The Dairymen's League, National Farmers Organization, the Farm Bureau and the Belmont Grange and since 1974 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Wellsville.

Survivors include: His wife Mary; 3 sons, David C. (Susan D.) Austin of Friendship, Joseph C. (Barbara) Austin of Cuba and Michael J. (Susan L.) Austin of Churchville; 2 daughters, Mary Ellen Austin and her fiancé Ray Burdick of Belmont and Christine M. (Daniel) Lyon of Salt Lake City, Utah; a step son, David W. Morgan of Bath; 23 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Charlie was predeceased by his first wife Eleanor; a daughter Brenda J. Austin; a stepdaughter, Rosemary Hovis; a brother Victor Austin and a sister Charlotte Beyers.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 6, from 6 to 9 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home at 17 Schuyler Street in Belmont. His funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11 am in the funeral home with Kurt Shillig of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery and memorials in Charlie's name may be made to the Office of the Aging in Belmont.
