Alex Thomas Fountain

Bolivar, NY - Alex Thomas Fountain, infant son of Amanda Mayes and Thomas Fountain, passed away shortly after birth on Wednesday, May 29 at the Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville.

He is survived by 2 brothers, Michaell, and Hunter Fountain both at home; a sister Amber Hoffman; paternal grandmother, Doreen Fountain; maternal grandmother Tracy McBurney; paternal great grandmother, Jean Fuhry; maternal great grandparents, Donald and Barbara McBurney; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Alex was predeceased by 2 brothers.

Jean Marie Taylor

Hildebran, NC - Jean Marie Taylor, age 82, a former resident of Harrison Valley, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday May 23, 2013 at the Caldwell Hospice Center in Hickory, NC. Jean was born on December 30, 1930 in Coudersport to Walter and Laura Moore. She was married to Charles Taylor who predeceased her.

Jean worked as a waitress in several restaurants in the Coudersport area. She was a member of the Harrison Valley Fireman's Auxiliary and a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Harrison Valley.

Survivors include: 3 sons, John Gee of Wellsville, Terry Gee-Taylor of Morganton, NC., and Timothy [Doreen] Taylor of Wellsville; a daughter, Laura [Paul] Williams of Beaver Dams; 3 granddaughters and 4grandsons; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jean was predeceased by her parents and her 2 brothers Buster and Dick Moore.

A private funeral service will be held on Saturday June 1, 2013 with Rev. Richard Helms presiding. Burial will take place in Rushford and memorials may be made to the First Trinity Lutheran Church of Wellsville. To leave online condolences please visit www.embserfuneralhome.com.

Elizabeth Ann Johnson


Wellsville, NY - Loving Daughter and Sister, Elizabeth Ann Johnson, 50, of 237 O'Connor Street passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born March 23, 1963 in Binghamton the daughter of the late William Lee "Red" Johnson, Sr. who loved her with all his heart and the late Betty Jean (Lewis) Johnson from whom she was inseparable.

Beth Ann will be sadly missed by the staff at Allegany County ARC and especially by the residents and staff at the ARC Residence on O'Connor Street. Many Wellsville residents may recall her early childhood walks on Main Street with her family and friends.

She is survived by one sister, Kimberley Carr of Killeen, TX, three brothers, William Lee Johnson, Jr. of Cuba, Earl Johnson of Temple, TX and Donald Johnson; her devoted step-mother, Lindsay Scott-Johnson of Cuba, an aunt, Ann Fenescey of Bunnell, FL, an uncle, Irwin (Marie) Johnson of Belmont, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

William M. Fleming


Fort Lauderdale, FL - William M. Fleming, 69, passed away February 2, 2013 at his home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Wellsville, NY. After serving in the Air Force, he was employed by Kodak and IBM in Rochester, NY as a Computer Operator, before retiring.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward W. and Pearl (Moyer) Fleming, his brother Tom and his wife, Terry. He is survived by his niece, Colleen Van Gorder and his nephew, Keegan Fleming.     

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 12 noon in the Immaculate Conception Church, Wellsville, NY.  Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Margaret "Maggie" Green


Wellsville, NY - Margaret "Maggie" Green, 82, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 at home surrounded by her family. 

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Watkins and Cheryl Gleason, five sons, Jim, Dan, Brian, Ed and Dennis Green, and their spouses, 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one sister, Eva Sinsebox and one brother, Ron Broughton as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harley E. Green on June 1, 1998. 

In lieu of a visitation or funeral, Maggie requested an informal gathering of friends and family. So a luncheon in her honor, will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the American Legion, 23 Jefferson Street in Wellsville, where she was a life member.

Dixie Graves Hyer


Wellsville, NY - Dixie Graves Hyer, 56, of 116 Early Street passed away peacefully on Friday, May 03, 2013 at home following long illness. She was born January 26, 1957 in Tampa, Florida the daughter of the late Richard A. and Elaine (Bennett) Graves Jr. On August 1, 1981 in Wellsville she married Phillip Hyer who survives.

Dixie was a 1975 graduate of Wellsville High School. She was formerly employed at WLSV Radio as a disk jockey, Shaner's Jewelry Store in Wellsville, Certified Traffic Controllers of Andover, Skibecks Pipeline Company Inc. of Randolph, Better Days in Wellsville and at the Wellsville Elementary School cafeteria. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose Chapter 248, the Frank B. Church VFW Post # 2530 Auxiliary, past president of the Allegany County Players, and was a former coach for Wellsville Girls Softball Community League. She also enjoyed playing golf and loved gardening. 

Surviving in addition to her husband are four children, Jeremy Hyer of Wellsville, Kristen Hyer of Fayetteville, Erika (Shane) Hyer-Scott of Wellsville and Matthew Hyer of Buffalo, four grandchildren, Wyatt and Quinten Hyer and Pacey and Hendrick Scott, two sisters, Karen (Jeff) Briggs of New York City, Beth (Kris) Carlin of Scio, two brothers, Dan (Wanda) Graves of Wellsville and Dean (Saundra) Graves of Cumberland, MD as well as aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard A. Graves III.

Friends are invited to call on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 11:00 am in the First Congregation Church, 289 N. Main Street in Wellsville with Rev. Patricia Bancroft presiding. Burial will be in Stannards Cemetery.
