Marguerite A. Cornelius

Wellsville, NY - Marguerite A. Cornelius, 88, a former resident of the Pikeville Road died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville. She was born January 2, 1921 in Alma, the daughter of George and Flossie (Terrette) Quick. In 1939 she married Robert L. Cornelius who predeceased her in 1988.

Marguerite was a first employed at the Alcas Corporation and the Tile Plant in Olean and later was a long time employee of Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. After she retired, she worked as a private health aide. She was a life member of Alma United Methodist Church. Marguerite was like a loving grandmother to everyone and welcomed those in need into her home.

She is survived by five children, Roberta Mesler and Bonnie Fanton both of Wellsville, Carolyn (Bud) Slocum of Shinglehouse, PA, Larry (Connie Braley) Cornelius of Wellsville and Penny Baker of Alma, two foster sons, Ricky Skiver of Gerry, NY and Jerry Skiver of Alma, NY, two sisters, Lucille (Carl) Dickerson of Belmont and Betty Childs of Portville, a sister in law, Joan Quick of Statesville, NC, 27 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 52 great-great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Joyce Schoonover, Mildred Lewis and Wanetta Hardy and a brother, Julius Quick.

Friends are invited to call on today (Wednesday December 9) from 2:00 – 4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 pm and Thursday from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation at 2:00 pm Thursday (December 10, 2009) in the funeral home with Rev. Clara Wilder presiding. Burial will be in York Corners Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the Alma United Methodist Church.

  1. Marguerite was a neat lady and I will really miss her encouraging words when I do my next rounds at Highland on Tuesday. She loved the Lord Jesus so completely I am sure she has her special place with Him now.

  2. To my Loving Aunt Margerite- May god bless you and give you peace now that you are with mom, and your other sisters and Uncle J. You are going to be sadly missed by all of us here on earth. But you have missed mom so very much since her loss 3 years ago. All of our angels there in Heaven. Bless you all.
    For all of my cousins. May you be encourged to go on with each day of fullfillment knowing that your mom,grandmother, etc is being well cared for now. She will be missed by you. Take each day as it comes. God bless. I am sorry that I can't make the trip home. But I am there in thought. In prayer. Virgil, Aleta, Robin, Amanda, Brian, Brooklyn
