Wellsville, NY - Karl J. Schoenherr, 83, of 8 Meadowbrook Court passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Highland Hospital in Rochester following a long illness. He was born August 23, 1926 in Washington, DC the son of Dr. Karl E. and Regina (Kees) Schoenherr. He was married to the former Patricia Wall who predeceased him on December 28, 2003.
Karl graduated from the Perkiomen School in Pennsburg, PA in 1944. He was appointed to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY in December of 1944 and served on a Merchant Marine tanker from April of 1945 to June of 1946. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He did his graduate work at Purdue University in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed at C. E. Air Preheater Company in Wellsville for 38 years; retiring in 1988.
He was a life member of the Emerald Hook & Ladder Company # 3 in Wellsville, where he served at treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Professional Engineers, the Pi Tau Sigma and Sigma Xi fraternities for engineers and scientists and was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville where he served as an usher.
He is survived by a son, Mark J. Schoenherr of Wellsville, a former daughter-in-law, Angela Schoenherr of Hinsdale, three grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to call today from 7-9 pm, Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm, and Thursday from 12:00 to 12:30 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 1:00 pm in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with Monsignor Vincent Becker as Celebrant. Burial, with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the Immaculate Conception Church or the SPCA Serving Allegany County.
