Alice A. Van Druff

Wellsville, NY - Alice A. "Peggy" Van Druff, 86, Niles Hill Road died on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville with her family at her side. She was born June 13, 1924 in Wellsville the daughter of Peter and Lena (Johnson) Cole. On June 14, 1942 in Wellsville she married Albert F. Van Druff Sr. who predeceased her on September 29, 1999.

Peggy was a long time resident of Wellsville and formerly resided in Lilburn, Georgia for five years. While her husband was serving his country during WW II, she was employed by a U.S. Army Major. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and attended the Riverside Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by four sons, Albert Van Druff Jr. of California, Roger (Constance) Van Druff of Kenmore, DuWayne (Sun Ho) Van Druff of Las Vegas, NV and Dwight (Carol) Van Druff of Wellsville, two daughters, Nancy (Wayne) Kleinsteuber of Toronto, CA and Stephanie Van Druff of Wellsville, 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one sister, Lucille (Bud) Hackett of Wellsville, one brother, Walter Cole Sr. of Wellsville and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Gerald Van Druff and Stephen "Fred" Van Druff, a sister, Phyllis Cole and a brother, Irwin Cole.

Friends are invited to call on Saturday, July 3, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm at the Assembly of God Church on Riverside Drive in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation at 2:00 pm in the church with Rev. Fred Francisco presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Helen L. Rice

Wellsville, NY - Helen L. Rice, 76, of 100 Johnson Street died Monday, June 28, 2010 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born November 12, 1933 in the Town of Amity, the daughter of the late Walter P. and Ruth M. (Carr) Hand.

Helen enjoyed her visits to the Wellsville Senior Center and was instrumental in forming the bingo club at the Colony Park Apartments.

She is survived by 4 brothers, Gerald R. (Dorothy) Hand of Cheektowaga, Walter R. "Barney" Hand of Scio, Donald C. (Sharon) Hand of Wellsville and William E. (Lori) Hand of Tennessee, two sisters, Doris J. Williams of Kane, PA and Edna M. (Paul) Lessard of Falconer, a dear friend, Bea Morehouse Mueckl of Orlando, FL and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold N. Hand.

Sarah V. Waters

Wellsville, NY - Sarah V. Waters of 155 North Brooklyn Ave. passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010, after a short illness. She was born on May 7, 1942 in Genesee, Pa. the daughter of William and Vada Graves Harrison.

Sarah graduated from Whitesville Central High School who had been a resident of the Whitesville and Andover area. She and her family had been involved in dairy farming in Whitesville and Spencerport. Sarah had worked as a home health aide in the Wellsville Area and was currently was employed by AIM. She liked to square dance and enjoyed listening and dancing on Monday Nights at the VFW to the Monday Night Players. Sarah was well known, enjoyed reading and loved animals. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be remembered for her passion for helping others.

Survivors include: 4 sons, Timothy Waters of Orchard Park, Arnold (Liz) Waters of Greenwood, Kenneth (Alisa) Waters of Henrietta and Lewis Waters of Westport, IN.; 3 daughters, Tammy (Brian) Matteson of Wellsville, Sarah (Brian) Slattery of Brockport and Alma (Ronald) Hobson of Westport, IN.; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandson; 2 sisters, Wilma Waters of Woodhull and Jean Fanton of Wellsville; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Ellen Waters as well as 3 brothers, Charles, Earl and Harold Harrison.

Charles W. "Doc" Ordway

Wellsville, NY - Charles W. "Doc" Ordway formerly of Bolivar passed away on June 21, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born on March 7, 1924 in Troupsburg and was married to Genevieve Clark who predeceased him in 1991.

Charles was a former resident of Olean and Bolivar. He worked for the former Davin's Junk Yard in Olean, Donferd's Sawmill in Kill Buck and for the former Stardell's Dairy in Friendship. Charles was a hard worker that never missed a day of work. He loved his family and will be remembered for his sense of humor.

Survivors include: 3 sons, Terry (Maxine) Ordway of Bolivar, William Ordway of Bolivar and Chuck (Samantha) Ordway of West Field, PA.; 3 daughters, Cindy Vennard of Wellsville, Virginia Ordway of Bolivar and Julie (Bruce) Foster of Cuba; His 3 adopted children, Larry Ordway of Wellsville, Carol Gorney of Buffalo and Debbie (Charles) Vennard of Ceres. Several Grandchildren including Brandon Charles Ordway, Kala Foster and James Vennard; several great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Lou Boom of Florida and Barbara Poorman of upstate New York; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Alice P. Brownell

Belfast, NY - Alice P. Brownell, 70, a former resident of 15 ½ Main Street died on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center with her family at her side. She was born March 23, 1940 in Wellsville the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Helen Pearl (Haskins) Armstrong.

Alice was employed as a waitress at the Texas Hot and the Cross Diner in Wellsville, Ernida's in Andover and the Belfast Hotel. Alice enjoyed being a waitress and getting to know her regular customers. The highlight of Alice's career was in the early 60's while working at a diner in Rochester, she served two actors; Richard Chamberlain from the "Dr. Kildare" show and Vince Edwards from the "Dr. Ben Casey" show. She always treasured the autographed photos she received. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Belfast and enjoyed scratch off tickets.

She was a loving mother of five children, Daniel E. (Linda) Brownell, Jeanna L. Brownell, Elmer A. Brownell III, Darrold L. (Doria) Brownell and Clarence G. Brownell all of Wellsville, five granddaughters, Kay (Andy) Middaugh, Jessica L. Cole, Krystal (Chris) Howard, Deanna Brownell and Darcy Brownell, one great grandson, Dylan Howard, four brothers, Roy, John and Glenn Armstrong all of Wellsville and Neil Cline of Scio, three sisters, Vina Raught of Angelica, Helen Coy of Wellsville and Olive Jordan of Ravenna, Ohio as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon and Clarence Armstrong, one sister, Virginia Greenman, her husband, Elmer A. Brownell Jr. and her long time companion, Stanley Prentice.

Lloyd B. Moyer

Wellsville, NY - Lloyd B. Moyer, 90, of 59 Martin Street died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Wellsville Highland Health Care Center…He was born October 6, 1919 in Shawmut, PA the son of the late Mark and Alice (Mann) Moyer. On July 9, 1947 in DuBois, PA he married Mary Alice Durkin who predeceased him of January 19, 2005.

Lloyd was raised in Brockway PA and was a graduate of Brockway High School. He then served with the U.S. Army during WW II. He was employed as the meat manager at the A & P Grocery Store in Wellsville. After he retired he was a bartender for the Brunswick Hotel, PJ's Pub and the Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Morrison Hayes American Legion Post 702, the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW and the Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601. He never missed any of his Children's many activities and went to as many of his grandchildren's games and activities as he could. He loved to see the Yankees win and he loved to see the Yankees lose. He loved the Yankees!

He is survived by a daughter, Rose Marie Scott of Alma, two sons, Richard (Jody) Moyer of Erie, PA and Mark (Susan) Moyer of Scio, seven grandchildren, Robert (Kimberly) Scott, Lyndi Scott, Joshua (Katie) Moyer, Justin (Meghan) Moyer, Elizabeth (Brian) Gamache, Katherine Moyer and he fiancé Scott Miller and Christopher Moyer, four great grandchildren, Aliceson Scott, Olivia Moyer, Brady Moyer, Lily Miller and his little feline buddy, Paka. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert Scott, an infant grandson Scott, two brothers, John and Lyle Moyer, two sisters, Pearl Fleming and Olie Fremer and one nephew, Tom Fleming.
