Ronald G. Broughton, 89

Wellsville, NY – Ronald G. Broughton, 89, of South Highland, passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Highland Park. He was born February 17, 1934, in Wellsville, the son of the late George E. and Ruth (Pitts) Broughton. On November 6, 1954, in Wellsville he married his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth “Betty”, who predeceased him on May 26, 2006.

Ronald worked for Alfred College of Agriculture and Technology’s Wellsville campus for 30 years, retiring in April of 1995. He was an artist, a jack-of-all-trades, a sibling, a great-grandpa, a father, a craftsman, a hard-worker, a husband, a sailor, a cat-person, a gardener, an uncle, a homebody, a family-man, and tough as nails. He had a quiet kindness, a dry humor, a subtle wit, and most importantly – a heart full of love. His family feels blessed to have had him in their lives.

He is survived by: a daughter, Mary Broughton Kane of Wellsville; a son, Ronald (Polly) Broughton Jr. of Wellsville; five grandchildren, Ruth (Damien) McDonald, Elizabeth (Pavel) Kulikov both of Jacksonville, FL, Kay Broughton of Albany, NY, Paul (Gigi) Kane Jr. of Washington D.C., and Steven (Anna) Broughton of Orchard Park, NY; four great-grandchildren, Dylan McDonald, Edward McDonald, Constantine Kulikov, and Agatha Kulikov; siblings, James S. Broughton, Robert Broughton, Alice McGillivray, Eva Sinsebox, Maggie Green, and Velma Yankanich (Bill) Demming; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by, a grandson, Thomas Ronald Kane.

Friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service this Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11 am in Sacred Heart Cemetery of Wellsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date at Sacred Heart Church in Genesee, PA with Father Joseph Doughtery presiding.   4. Mary & Ron- so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. He & your mom were good friends of my dad & mom- Earl & Pat Robbins for many years. I know that dad enjoyed Ron’s friendship for many years. May you find peace in your memories of a wonderful guy! John Robbins

  5. I am so very sorry for Ron’s passing. He was a very special person who I worked with during my years at Alfred State College. He was always the calm one but the wise one, and lots of fun, to boot! I very much respected Ron’s expertise and knowledge about the college.

  6. My thoughts are with Ron's family. He was a wonderful colleague at the ASC Wellsville campus and a Renaissance man who was skilled at almost everything. Sorry to learn of his passing.
