Marion L. Johnson, 98

Wellsville, NY – Marion L. Johnson, 98, formerly a 47-year resident of Whitesville, and more recently of Hills Street, in Wellsville, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born June 25, 1925, in the Town of Willing, the daughter of the late John E. and Ethel L. (Witter) Ludden. On August 7, 1951, in Port Allegany, PA, she married her husband of 56 years, Leo John Johnson, who predeceased her on June 20, 2008. 

Marion was raised on the Ludden Road in the Town of Willing. She was a 1940 graduate of Immaculate Conception School, and a 1942 graduate of Wellsville High School. She continued her education at Rochester Business Institute in Wellsville. At the age of 17, she began her 37 career at Citizens National Bank, and six “long” years at Key Bank, retiring in 1986. Outside of her profession, she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, and Altar and Rosary Societythe Business and Professional Women’s Club, Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Olive Twig, was a charter member of the Independence Historical Society, the Whitesville Cherry Circle, Whitesville Senior Citizens, and was the treasurer of the Wellsville Area MS Walk forseven years. She was an Election Clerk, and the Whitesville School Tax Collector for many years. In their free time, she and Leo loved to travel the world.

She is survived by: two daughters, MaryAnn (Gus) Weber of Andover and Marlee (Brian) Cannon of Amity Lake; grandsons, Gus D. (Juleen) Weber II, Matthew J. (Annette) Cannon, and Ian (Tamara Muska) Cannon; great-grandchildren, Ardell Spinder, Leo John Cannon, John Edward Cannon, Eshne Mae Cannon, Lochlan John Cannon, and Oona Maple Cannon; beloved cousins, Jane Aiken, Ann Margeson, and Regina McGinnis, her “third daughter” Shallee (Paul) Lauzze; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by, a sister, Dorothy Cameron. The family would like to thank her loving care givers at the Wellsville Manor Care Center.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 2 – 4 and 7 -9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, 34 West State Street. The Rosary will be recited at 8:15 pm on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 11 am in the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Please consider memorial donations to the Independence Historical SocietyP.
