Dan was a long-time resident of Wellsville, he was a 1961 graduate of Wellsville High School. At one time he was a Police Officer for the Village of Wellsville. After his time with the department, he became a long-haul truck driver who primarily drove for Western Auto. In 1990 Dan made a career shift and founded Dan Shea Septic Tank Service, which he still owned and operated.
He was a member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge 1495, the Wellsville Moose Lodge, and past member of the Emerald Hook and Ladder. Dan was a devout Catholic who prayed the rosary every day, he attended and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. His passion was music, especially country music, of which he was a “die hard fan”; he was in several bands, including The Genesee Valley Boys with Bob Norton. Overall, music was a big part of his life. Additionally, he was an avid hunter. Dan will be remembered as a wonderful man and father, who always had a good joke to tell. The family would like to thank the Jones Memorial Hospital ICU staff, especially Val and Dylon.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by: a daughter, Nancy (Randy) Schultz of Manassas, VA; two sons, Daniel Shea of Andover, and Donald (Barbara) Shea of San Antonio, TX; Nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Timothy (Eileen) Shea of Wellsville, and Brian (Laura) Shea of Hilton; four sisters, Kate (Doug) Knott & Jeanne (Pat) Purtill, both of Wellsville, and Patty (Douglas) Morley & Peggy (Stan) Atherholt, both of Gold, PA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by: his parents; children, Dennis Shea and Wendy Schultz; and siblings, MaryAnn Manning and Michael Shea.
Friends are invited to call on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 4 – 7 PM at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville, 34 West State Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 11 AM in the Immaculate Conception Church of Wellsville, 36 Maple Avenue. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. My husband had worked with Dan a number of times over the years through septic inspections and has a high regard and deep respect for him. Dan was an amazing, ethical and respectable man, both in business and family life. God rest his soul.
