Alan R. Stuck, 75

Friendship, NY—Alan R. Stuck, 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY. He was born December 21, 1946 in Friendship, the son of the late Elba and Alice (Neff) Stuck.

A lifelong resident of Friendship, Al served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to1972.  After serving in the Vietnam War, he returned to Friendship where he had a long career working for the United States Post Service and the Friendship Central School District. Residents on his route appreciated his unbridled commitment to their mail delivery through all kinds of weather conditions typical of Upstate New York.  He always had a bagful of dog treats in his mail truck that were graciously received by the numerous dogs waiting by the mailbox for Al’s delivery.

Al leaves behind a legacy of kindness, patriotism and passion for life. A man of large stature and few words, his easy smile and intense loyalty were treasured by those that knew him best. He was an active member of the Friendship American Legion Post 1168, keeping their books and records for many years, and was an avid bowler, horseshoe pitchman, hunter and golfer.

He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Neu and Jane Burr, and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased in addition to his parents by a sister, Donna Focht, and two brothers John and Thomas Stuck.

Friends are invited to a graveside service with full military honors on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 10:00am at Maple Grove Cemetery in Friendship, NY.  Following the service, friends are welcome to join the family at the American Legion in Friendship, 29 Depot Street for refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the American Legion in Friendship or the VA Medical Center, 76 Veterans Avenue, Bath, NY 14810. Al’s family would like to express special appreciation to Al’s many friends at the American Legion and to the nursing and professional staff at the Bath VA for the tremendous support and care he received the past few years.
