Jerrold W. “Jerry” Jackson

Wellsville, NY - Jerrold W. “Jerry” Jackson, 66, of 1875 Petrolia Hill Road died on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born March 2, 1942 in Scio the son of Millard and Viola (Sanford) Jackson. On October 27, 1962 in Whitesville he married Sandra Hunt who survives.

Jerry was a 1960 graduate of Wellsville High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 serving during the Vietnam and in Cuba, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was employed at Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville from 1964 until he retired in 1987 due to ill health. He was a life member of the Allentown Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Allegany County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion, the Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601, the Moose Legion, the Whitesville Rod & Gun Club, the NRA, the Yorks Corners Mennonite Church and the Serenity Hills Golf Course in Friendship. He was a former member of the Alma Town Board and is a current member of the Town of Alma Assessment Board. He was also a 40 year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1580.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Kenneth (Felicia) Jackson of Fairbanks, AK, Mary (David) Saunders of Whitesville and Melissa Blank of Rochester, six grandchildren, Marissa, Jarred, Jaremy and Trent Jackson and Phillip and Danielle Saunders, one great grandson, Blake Kitchens, one brother, Howard (Ginny) Jackson of Wellsville, two sisters, Martha Hall of Arcadia, FL and Claudia (Harold Rifenburg) Ackley of Andover, a brother-in-law, Ronald Morrison of Scio, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Jackson of Wellsville, a special aunt Maxine Jackson of Wellsville, several nieces and nephews, special friends, Basil and Dennis Shutt of Wellsville and his K9 sidekick and companion, Nugget. He was predeceased by three brothers, Royce, Millard Jr. and Alan Jackson and two sisters, Carol Clayson and Barbara Morrison.

Friends are invited to call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will be Saturday, February 28th at 2:00 pm in the funeral home with Dale Beebee presiding. Burial with military honors will follow in York Corners Cemetery. Memorial suggestions include any charity of the donor’s choice.
