Belmont - Eleanor Q. Coleman of the Hood Road passed away on Saturday February 7, 2009 at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 31, 1919 in Wellsville to Arthur and Lillian [Norton] Quinn. On June 30, 1941 in St. Mary’s Church in Belmont she married Raymond Coleman who predeceased her on November 3. 1998.
Eleanor earner a B.S. [Library Science] in 1940 and a M.S. [Elementary Education] in 1958 from SUNY Geneseo. She taught first grade for 25 years in the Wellsville School System and loved her students dearly. Eleanor was member of St. Mary’s Parish in Belmont for over 60 years. She was an active church member and served as treasurer of the Alter Society. Eleanor was also a volunteer for the Allegany County Blind Association.
Survivors include: a daughter Nancy[Richard]Staley of Pittsford; a son in law Ron Hirschler of Fairport; 4 grandchildren, Robert[Alicia]Hudson, Stephen[Kathy]Hirschler, Chris[Isabel]Hirschler and Lisa Hudson; a great granddaughter Hope Hudson. A brother George [Kathy] Quinn of Winnabow, NC. and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Raymond, a daughter Barbara Coleman Hirschler, a brother Robert Quinn and a sister Leola Cline
There will be no prior visitation and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Thursday February 12 at 11 am in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Belmont. Father Jerome Dissek is the celebrant and burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorials in Eleanor’s name may be made to either the Office for the Aging or to the Amity Rescue Squad. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Belmont.
