Dianne C. Buchholz, 84

North Tonawanda, NY - Dianne C. Buchholz, 84,  formerly of Hallsport Road passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the Northgate Health Care in North Tonawanda, N.Y.  She was born on November 9, 1938 in Lockport, NY, the daughter of the late Rueben and Hilda (Schimschack) Stenzel. On June 7, 1958 in Bergholz she married hee husband of sixty-one years, Oscar L. Buchholz, who predeceased her on September 21, 2019. 

She was raised in Bergholz, NY in Niagara County. She also formerly resided in Lockport and North Tonawanda. She moved to the Wellsville area in 1983. During her early years, Dianne was a waitress for her Aunt and Uncle.  She was a dedicated mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her family.

She is survived by: three daughters, Corinne (Ralph) Maday of SC, Brigette (James) Grawe of North Tonawanda, and Donna (Duane) Moderacki of North Tonawanda; six grandchildren, Adam, James, Jennifer, Jamie, Jozef, and Brett; twelve great-grandchildren, Olivia, Addison, Kendal, Carter, Ryan, Ella, Samuel, Brigette, Sophia, Leah, Allieand William; one brother, Douglas (Gayle) Stenzel of FL; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was predeceased by: one brother, Donald Stenzel.

Margaret Ann Ordiway, 71


Wellsville, NY – Margaret Ann 
Ordiway, 71, of First Street, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born April 10, 1952, the daughter of the late DelburtW. and Margaret L. (Ransom) Campbell. On December 23, 1978, in Wellsville she married Milon J. Ordiway, who predeceased her October 8, 2022. 

Margaret was a life-long resident of Wellsville; she was a 1970 graduate of Wellsville High School. She started her career at 16 while still a student, working at the Texas Hot as a waitress and had a 42-year tenure before retiring. Customers will remember her most for her warmth and contagious laugh. Outside of work she was a member of the VFW Vet’s Club Auxiliary. She loved dogs, hummingbirds, I Love Lucy, and most of all, her grandchildren. 

She is survived by: three children, Tracy (Max) Waters of Andover, Tonya (Joe) Shamyer of Warners, and Ken (Jessica) Ordiway of Wellsville; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Rodney) Jacobs, Cory (Katelyn) Waters, Kristina (Brian) Willets, Dyllan (Shawn) Mcrae, Shaun McKinley, Alex Ordiway, and Andrew Ordiway; 10 great-grandchildren; special friends, Barb & Stan Ingraham; and 4 special nieces, Alisa, Stacie, Stefanie, and Carrie. In addition to her parents, and husband of 43 years, she was predeceased by: three brothers, Delburt “Pud” Campbell Jr., Robert John Campbell, and Malcolm Campbell.

Gladys Dorothy Potter, 90

Wellsville, NY – Gladys Dorothy Potter, 90, of 152 Pine Street, died on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Hart Comfort House, where she received wonderful care. She was born June 29, 1932, in Genesee, PA the daughter of the late Clifford and Bessie (BenwayMorris. As an infant, her family moved to Wellsville, where she resided for the remainder of her life.

Gladys was employed at the Shamrock Inn, the Long Vue Motel, Mary’s Nursing Home, the Highland Nursing Home and was a housekeeper for several area families. 

She is survived by her brother, Roger (Judy) Morris of Wellsville, a daughter, Carol E. Cosgrove of Alden, NY, son, Richard L. (Sonny) Potter of Albion, NY and her grandchildren; Christine (Don) Marchese of Elma, NY, Renee (Matthew) Menegay of Mt. Zion, IL, Mary B. Cosgrove of Alden, NY, Angela M. Cosgrove of San Antonio, TX, Molly (Arthur) Reed of Friendship and John R. Cosgrove of Buffalo, NY. Gladys also had 8 great-grandchildren and a niece, Kelly (Don) Roberts of Scio, NY.   

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by an infant daughter, a son, Duane A. Potter, a brother, William Morris, son-in-law, John J. Cosgrove, and a sister-in-law, Susan Morris.

Jeffrey J. Jordan, 63

Belmont, NY – Jeffrey J. Jordan, 63, of Greenwich Street, passed away on June 18, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 3, 1960, in Wellsville, the son of the late John and Mary (Knapp) Jordan. 

Jeff was a life-long resident of Belmont, graduating from Belmont Central School in 1978. While in school he played Sousaphone in the school band. While growing up he was also an altar boy at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Upon graduating he worked for his father as a contractor for several years. He was a 15 year employee of the Village of Belmont, he also worked at the Genesee Valley Nursery. Outside of his employment he was heavily involved with the Sons of the American Legion, both local and national chapters. Locally, he was a charter member oft eh Herbert W. DeLong Squadron #808, serving as the first Commander, and was a member for 40 years; on the county level he was a member of the 8th District Sons, holding most offices at some point, especially Adjunct and Commander; for the state he was member of both the 7th and 8thdistricts, serving on many committees, as Vice Commander and Commander from 1988 – 1989; nationally he served as an Alternate Executive Committeeman, and attended many national conventions. Locally, he was also an active member of the Belmont Fire Department for many years, joining on August 10, 1978, and serving as president from 1985 – 1990; he also was a longtime member of the Belmont Conservation Club. 

He is survived by: a sister,  Marilyn Jordan of Johnson City; nephews, Jon Paxhia, Jake Paxhia, Anthony (Sarah) Paxhia, and Vincent Paxhia; as well as several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a nephew, William Jordan.

Dale O. Cline, 81

Walworth, NY – Dale O. Cline, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. He was born on July 7, 1941, in Wellsville NY, the son of the late Oristus and Florence (Munger) Cline. On December 12, 1987, in Penfield NY, he married the love of his life, Carol Anne Kervin, also from Wellsville, who predeceased him on July 12, 2020.

Dale was raised in Wellsville and was a 1959 graduate of Wellsville High School. Upon graduating he enlisted with the United States Navy, serving from 1959 –1962 where he proudly served on the Submarine U.S.S. Bonefish in the Western Pacific. After his discharge, he began his career with the Xerox Corporation in Rochester NY, where he excelled as an engineer, retiring in 2000. After retirement he enjoyed the kids and schedule, driving a school bus for Wayne Central. While excelling at his career, Dale worked to live rather than living to work, and was always into one hobby or another. For decades, he and Carol loved their many traveling adventures with their motorcycle and Harley Davidson Bike Club. He was a life-long outdoorsman and sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and range shooting. Dale was also an avid Corvette enthusiast throughout his life, owning many over the years. He was proud of his son and grandchildren and forthe last decade or so, was a member of the family kart race team.

He is survived by a son, Jeff (Jodi) Cline of Penfield; grandson, Joseph Cline;granddaughter, Jordan Cline; special friend, Sandy Allen; and several nieces andnephews. Alan James Hanchett, 90

Wellsville, NY – Alan James Hanchett, 90, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 8, 1933, at home on Hanover Street, the son of the late Clarence G. and Rhea (Marsh) Hanchett. On November 13, 1953, he married Doris R. Wheat, who predeceased him on February 15, 2007.
 
Al was a 1952 graduate of Wellsville High School. Upon graduating he enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served from 1952 -1956 as a Radar Technician. After his honorable discharge he found his career at Worthington Corporation, where he worked his way up to Purchasing Agent, a position he held from 1963 – 1995, retiring from Dresser-Rand in June of 1995. During his employment, he continued his education at Alfred State College, graduating in 1971 with an associate degree in business administration. Outside of his work, he was a member of the Macedonia Lodge #258 F&AM (since 1970), and the Bolivar Chapter 280 RAM. He was a life member, and past president, of the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and member of the Morrison Hayes American Legion Post 702.
 
He is survived by son, Edward (Sharon) Hanchett of Pittsford; daughter, Pamela L. France of Wellsville; grandchildren, Christopher (Margaret) Hanchett of East Rochester, Laura (James) Cologgi of Penfield, Ashley France and Jennifer France, both of Wellsville; 5 great-grandchildren; special friend, Nancy Blackman; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, and wife of 53 years, he was predeceased by: siblings, Clarence G. Hanchett Jr. and Betty Jean Windus.

Richard “Dick” O. Elias Sr, 86

Whitesville, NY – Richard “Dick” O. Elias Sr, 86, of Main Street, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born on May 6, 1937, in Wellsville, the son of the late Oscar and Pearl (Ruby) Elias. On November 2, 1957, in Whitesville he married Carolyn Ann Scoville, who predeceased him on August 30, 2019. 

Dick attended Genesee High School. He and his wife lived in Belmont, where they raised their family for 21 years before returning to her childhood home in Whitesville in 1986 to care for her father before his passing. Upon entering the work force he found his career with L.C. Whitford and worked there for many years before taking care of his wife for the last two years of her life. Outside of his employment he enjoyed dancing, Sunday dinners, gardening around the house, going to the Casino in Cuba, fishing, camping, watching wrestling and westerns of TV, and spending time with his four-legged friends Buddy and Fluffy.  

He is survived by: four sons, Robert Elias of Belmont, David Elias of Olean, Leo (Tracy) Elias of Wellsville, and Richard (Tracey) Elias Jr. of Scio; four daughters, Beverly Elias of Wellsville, Patricia Elias of Whitesville, Melody Elias of Wellsville, and Jacqueline (Earl) Hadsell of Black Creek; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gene Elias of Waverly, Ervin (Joann) Elias of Wellsville, and Roger (Elizabeth) Elias of Wellsville; two sisters, Agnes Glover of Olean and Linda Crawford of Hinsdale; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, and wife of 62 years, he was predeceased by: three brothers, Robert Elias, Leonard Elias, and Gerald Elias; and sister Viola Mazer.

Lois Louise Decker, 90

Wellsville, NY – Lois Louise Decker, 90, previously of Riverview Heights, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Wellsville Manor, after a long battle with dementia. She was born December 13, 1932, in Hornell, the daughter of the late Lynford and Helen (Bardeen) Gary. On March 10, 1956,in Hornell, she married Robert Henry Decker who predeceased her on August 12, 2011. 

Lois was a Hornell High School graduate. She worked in several fields, including banking, Hospitals (where she was an Assistant to the Comptroller), and Ludden Real Estate as a Licensed Realtor; before finding her career as an Office Manager for the Allegany County Department of Health. Outside of work she was a member of the Lady Lions in Wellsville, the Christian Temple, and Grace United Church. For some time, Loisresided in Fairfield Glade of Tennessee, where she was part of the Welcome Wagon. She was an animal lover (especially of dogs), enjoyed gardening and growing greenhouse flowers. 

She is survived by: daughter, Connie (Cort) Dunham of Wellsville; son Robert (Gena) Decker of Belmont; grandchildren, Dan Dunham of Norwich, NY, Dara Dunham of Rochester, Deena Dunham of Rochester, Katie Decker of Wellsville, Jordan Decker of Wellsville, and Azure McCumiskey of Belmont; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger (Shirley) Gary of Maineville, OH; and 3 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and husband of 55 years, she was predeceased by a special aunt, Lois Lucille Bardeen.

Marilyn P. Arnold, 78

Alma, NY – Marilyn P. Arnold, 78, of 261 Pump Station Road passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born March 8, 1945, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Victor B. and Martha H. (Miller) Perkins. On September 19, 1964, in Wellsville she married Gary T. Arnold who predeceased her on March 4, 2017.

A 55-year resident of Alma, Marilyn was a stay-at-home mom, who enjoyed ridingher side by side on the hill looking for deer, going to her grandkids sporting events, and car racing, having dinner at the Texas Hot and the Modern Diner, and working on puzzles.  

She is survived by two sons, Kerry Arnold and his companion, Christine Hurd of Alma, and Chad Arnold and his companion, Alexis Monroe of Bradford, PA, four grandchildren, Amanda (Corey) Yeoman, Nick Arnold, Kyle Arnold, and Kailee Arnold, two great grandsons, Harrison and Dunkin Yeoman, a great granddaughter, Lily Yeoman, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents and husband, by two sons, Jason and Chad Victor Arnold.
