  1. I worked with Pat at Preheater, at the Main Street plant, during the 90s. I can still hear his laugh. And to this day, more than 25 years later, I still remember the night that Pat prevented a big accident in the weld shop. One of the guys was pulling a welding machine cart across the floor, a portable cart that had the large gas bottle on the back. The guy was trying to pull the cart up over a hump in the cement floor and gave it a tug. What he didn't realize was that the bottle had not been chained to the cart and when he gave it a tug, the bottle started to fall off the cart. Pat saw the bottle falling, and was quick enough to step over and grab the bottle by the nozzle just before it hit the floor. He stood the bottle up, attached the chain and walked away. Both myself and the guy pulling the cart knew that if Pat had not stopped that bottle from hitting the floor, it would have knocked the valve off and shot that bottle across the shop like a missile. We both just stood there for a minute, realizing what could have happened, and Pat walked away like it was just another day at the plant. My condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Pat Padden. He was a good man and made an impression on my life. Rest in Peace Pat.
