Barbara Raines


Town of Willing, NY - Barbara Raines, 95, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Highland Park Healthcare Center in Wellsville. She was born November 24, 1921 in Wellsville, NY the daughter of the late Richard and Margaret (Schrader) Umiker. On August 4, 1956, in the Chapel at Fort Myer, VA she married Lt. Colonel Raymond W. Raines who predeceased her in 1998.

 Barb was a graduate of Wellsville High School and the Rochester Business Institute. She formerly resided at Arlington, VA, Washington, DC, Ottawa, Canada, McLean, VA, Amherst, NH and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She had been employed by the Empire Gas & Fuel Company, the Department of the Army at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and the David A. Howe Public Library in Wellsville, NY. She is a member of the First Trinity Lutheran Church in Wellsville.

She is survived by 6 cousins, Beverly (Dr. Roy) McTarnaghan of Bonita Springs, FL., Doris Hall of Cheektowaga, NY, Sally (Dr. Ralph) Stoll of Lake Bluff, IL., Pamela (George) Slack of Ontario, NY, Richard (Marlene) Schrader Jr. of Venetia, PA and Carl Schrader of Andover, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins including, Thomas (Charlene) Raines, and Suzanne (Michael) Allen; of Illinois, James Kneisler and Nancy Kneisler both of Wisconsin. She is also survived by 2 godchildren, Chad (Jessica) Emerson and Crystal Emerson and special friends, Stephen and Cathy Emerson of Shongo and Steven and Jacquelyn Antes of the Town of Willing. She was predeceased by an aunt & uncle, Richard and Sarah Schrader, a sister-in-law, Leona Raines, and a nephew Philip Raines.

Friends are invited to call on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the First Trinity Lutheran Church, 470 N. Main Street in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation at 2:00 pm in the church with Pastor Patrick Cox presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville. Memorial suggestions include the First Trinity Lutheran Church, David A. Howe Public Library, Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps or any charity of the donor’s choice.
