WELLSVILLE, NY - Gloria Dean ( Maxson) LaForge passed gently away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Wellsville Manor Hills following a lengthy illness.
Gloria was born in Richburg, NY on October 26, 1929. She was the daughter of James and Mary James Maxson. On July 4, 1947 Gloria married Donald Stephen LaForge who predeceased her in December 2010.
Gloria was retired from Alfred State ACES, having worked as the manager to the Vocational School bookstore for many years. Gloria enjoyed retail work, having worked at the Super Duper, Williams Store, and Schmidt’s Cadillac-Oldsmobile dealership in Wellsville.
Gloria was Cub Scout Den Mother to Pack 7, Den 3 in Willing for many years. She was a long time member and Board Member of the Stannards Methodist Church. Gloria had many happy memories with her friends from Stannards, including the Pinochle Club and Community Club. Gloria and Don were avid campers and loved traveling with family and friends.
Gloria is predeceased by her husband Don, a daughter Rebecca Dawn Razey(Mark), sisters Alice (Maxson) Allen and Annabelle (Maxson) Childs, and brothers Kenneth Maxson and James Maxson. She is survived by three children- Roxie Jo (Alfred) Roliczek, Robert James (Ronna) LaForge, Donald Stephen (Joanne) LaForge. Gloria was Grandma to eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Nothing made Gloria happier than being hostess to a large group of family and offering an abundance of home cooked food and desserts. She was a talented sewer and cake decorator and generously shared her talents.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville from 1 to 4 pm. I had the pleasure of working with Gloria for many years on the the ASC Technology Campus. She was a wonderful, student-centered colleague who I admired and respected. Her family and friends are in my thoughts.
