Belmont, NY - Dolores G. Whitney, 74, of 5692 Tuckers Corners Road passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell with her family at her side. She was born May 16, 1935 in Hornell the daughter of Edward and Isabelle (Philips) Goth. On September 15, 1956 in Hornell she married Victor L. Whitney who survives.
Dolores was raised in Hornell, was a 1953 graduate of Hornell High School and a 1956 graduate of St. James Mercy Hospital; School of Nursing. She was formerly employed as a registered nurse at St. James Mercy Hospital and Leominster Hospital in Massachusetts. She was the head of maternity at Cuba Memorial Hospital, was a School nurse for Friendship Central School and was a nurse for the Allegany County Department of Social Services. She later taught nursing at BOCES in Belmont and retired in 1991. She spent her winters in Florida; where she taught computers and sewing in Avon Park. She loved her students and enjoyed sewing, quilting and her computer.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Michael L. Whitney of Angelica, a brother, Michael (Maryanne) Goth of Silver Creek, a sister-in-law, Beverly Harding of Angelica, two brother-in-laws, Larry (Ruth) Whitney of Wellsville and Rick (Lois) Whitney of Bolivar a special friend, Roseanna Tait of Belmont, several nieces & nephews and her beloved dog Reese. She was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Thomas Harding and a sister-in-law, Janet L. Whitney.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. 17 Schuyler Street, in Belmont. On Wednesday (May 27th) at 11:00 am there will be a Eucheristic Service at Holy Family Church in Belmont with Deacon Frank Pasquale presiding. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont. Memorial suggestions include the Belmont Free Library or the American Cancer Society.
