Bertha Mae Brown

Wellsville - Bertha Mae Brown of the Bolivar Road passed away on Tuesday May 26, 2009 at the Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 1, 1923 in Greenwood to Ariel and Bertha Edwards Doty. On December 6, 1941 she married Donald A. Brown who predeceased her on March 8, 2004.

Bertha Mae “Bud” and Don raised their children in Petrolia and then for a time lived in Glencoe Ontario Canada and then returned to the Wellsville Petrolia area in 1967. Bertha was a member of the Allentown United Methodist Church and was active at the Wellsville Senior Center. She loved to sing and would join in song whenever the occasion would arise. Bertha was always a farm girl at heart and her love of animals was always a part of her life. She loved to sew and bake. She will be fondly remembered for her chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and the candy she made and always brought to her grandchildren on visits.

Survivors include: a son Kenneth (Shirley) Brown of Victor; two daughters, Sherry Haggith of Glencoe Ontario Canada and JoAnn Brown of London Ontario Canada; eleven grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren; a brother Homer (Karol) Doty of Belmont and a sister Shirley Connioto of Wellsville as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Carol Francis and Herman Doty; three sisters, Ruth Deats, Lena Fuller and Leah Nesbit.

Friends are invited to call on Friday May 29 from 11 am to 1 pm in the J.W.Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville at which time a funeral service will take place. Pastor Dick Helms will preside and burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials in Bertha’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
