Wellsville, NY - Robert J. Dougherty, 72, of 2760 Trapping Brook Road passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the Hart Comfort House surrounded by his family. He was born on December 5, 1944 in Hornell, the son of the late Anthony and Florence (Danaher) Dougherty. On May 13, 1995, he married Sally A. Emerson who survives.
He was a graduate of Andover High School, Alfred University and the Syracuse University, Graduate School of Management. He was formerly employed at Air Preheater Company in Wellsville for 21 years, Harris Supply Company in Wellsville for eight years and Hitachi Automotive Casting Products in Lawrenceville, PA for 10 years; all in Material Management positions. He was a former, coach, manager, and president of the Wellsville Little League, and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, landscaping, NASCAR and the Yankees.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife, Sally, is one son, James R. (Nikiis) Dougherty of Wellington, FL, five step-children, Steven (Chris) Nicot of Hilton, William Nicot of Charlotte, NC Melissa (Eric) Gottorff of Angola, Cory (Leslie) Graves of Springfield, VA, and Brent (Renee) Graves of Genesee, PA, 17 grandchildren, Micah, Matthew, Connor, Riley, and Zoe Dougherty; Ashley, Alycia, Bradley, Carly, Rebecca, Katie, Holly, Clair, Alison, and Daniel Nicot; and, Nolan and Griffin Graves, five great grandchildren, one brother, William (Mary) Dougherty of Elmira, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Dougherty of Andover, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by two brothers, Charles and John Dougherty and a nephew, Mark Dougherty.
Friends are invited to call on Monday, August 7, 2017, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The Rosary will be recited on Monday at 8:00 pm in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 8th at 11:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover.
