Clara L. Howard

Belmont, NY - Clara L. Howard, 72, of 4269 State Route 19 South passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at home following a long illness. She was born on May 13, 1944 in the Town of Wirt, the daughter of the late Ira and Sarah (Warner) Hosmer. On October 15, 2005 in Scio, she married Everett “Gene” Howard who survives.

Clara was raised in Bolivar and attended Bolivar Central School. She cleaned for several doctors in the Wellsville area and for Steuben Trust Company in Andover. She also helped many families with child care when the parents went on vacation. After moving to Arizona in 1991, she was employed at Dillard’s Department Store and then became a press operator for G.W. Plastics, where she was later promoted to supervisor of the cleaning department. She returned to Wellsville in 2004 and worked as a homecare health provider. In Retirement she enjoyed meeting her friends for coffee.  

Surviving in addition to her husband is one daughter, Sara (Neel) Geshwind of Scio, five grandchildren, Katlyn, Tylor, Nathan, Sara Theresa and Aretha Shaver, four great grandchildren, Cloey and Caleb Middaugh, Nevaeh Fayth Shaver and Sontiago Gamez, four step children, Tim, Tony, Tom, and Tina Howard, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and five brothers and sisters, she was predeceased by two sons, James Ira Shaver on August 25, 2015 and Scott Shaver on September 13, 2009.

Friends are invited to call at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., 34 W. State Street in Wellsville on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral will follow visitation at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar. Following the burial everyone is invited to Hamar’s Pub in Wellsville for a benefit dinner. Please consider memorial donations to Homecare & Hospice or the Scio Volunteer Fire Department.
