Edward G. Hanchett

Belmont, NY - Edward G. Hanchett, 83, of 5418 State Route 19 N. passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Wellsville Manor Care Center with his family at his side. He was born July 7, 1930 in Bolivar the son of the late Clyde and Lottie (Smith) Hanchett. On September 4, 1953 in Angelica, he married Sally Barker who survives.

Ed was a graduate of Belmont High School and was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving with the military police in Korea and Japan. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Belmont for many years; before becoming a heavy equipment operator for Blades Construction Company in Belmont. He and Sally later founded and operated Hanchett's Sundae Drive in Belmont.

Surviving  in addition to his wife are six children, Pam (John) Margeson of Scio, Doug (Gretchen) Hanchett of Belmont, Cathy (Ray Torres) Tosh of Belmont, Janine (Tim) Zombek of Lexington, KY, Dan (Becky) Hanchett of Belmont and Betsy (John) Hardy of Black Creek, 13 grandchildren, Stacey, Craig, Jenny, Cassie, Jason, Amanda, Chris, Josh, Matt, Danielle, Sarah, Jacob and Nathan, seven great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kim Thompson, two sisters, Anna Mae Aylor and Laura Jean Marsh and one brother, Donald Hanchett.

Friends are invited to call on Monday from 4:00 to7:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., 17 Schuyler Street in Belmont. A memorial service will be on Tuesday, (July 1, 2014) at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont.
