Belmont, NY - Paul Starr, 74, of 4901 Hood Road passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Shands Cancer Hospital in Gainesville Florida with his wife at his side. He was born September 17, 1939 in New Britain, CT. the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Eastwood) Starr. On July 19, 1961 in Hornell he married Brenda Knickerbocker who survives.
Paul was raised on a farm in Hartsville and attended Canisteo Central School. Paul enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1959 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Upon completing his service to his country in 1964, he settled in Belmont NY. He later graduated from DeVry College with a degree in Electronics. He was employed as an electrician at Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville for 38 years; retiring in 2003.
Paul was a natural teacher. He and his wife spent many hours and weekends teaching hunter safety courses, boy scouts, and swimming lessons. Those who received training from Paul knew him as a tough but thorough, and memorable teacher. He enjoyed skeet shooting with his family and friends as well as wood carving.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Paul (Tammy) Starr of Baldwinsville and Michael (Kimmysue) Starr of Scottsville, three daughters, Christine (Thomas) Zajicek of Big Flats, Valerie (William) Burton of Belmont, and Colleen (Steven) Cavagna of Andover, 12 grandchildren, one brother, Peter Starr of Altoona, PA as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Timothy, a grandson, Cory, three brothers, Joseph, Stephen and John and one sister, Lucille. He was a loving husband and father, who will deeply missed.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., 17 Schuyler Street in Belmont. The funeral will be Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 am in the funeral home with Deacon Frank Pasquale presiding. Interment with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville. Aunt Brenda and family- so sorry for our loss. He was a wonderful man- I remember his smile most of all. And one sure way to see that smile was when Aunt Brenda walked into the room. All throughout my childhood I remember how he would smile and look at you with so much love. You were both such a bg part of my childhood, and an inspiration.
