Annette K. "Yia-Yia" Gianas

Wellsville - Annette K. "Yia-Yia" Gianas of Brooklyn Avenue passed away on Tuesday, January 1, at The Pines in Olean. She was born on June 11, 1932 in Wellsville to Kostantinos "Gus" and Sophia Cretekos. On February 20, 1955 in Sykea, Greece she married John P. Gianas who predeceased her on July 23, 2008.

Annette was a lifelong resident of Wellsville who graduated from Wellsville High School and attended Keuka College. Annette was a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Jamestown and attended St. John's Episcopal Church in Wellsville where she sang in the choir and was a member of the St. Anne's Guild. For several years Annette enjoyed being a crossing guard on Brooklyn Avenue where she loved to see the Children. She will be remembered as a very social person who enjoyed being around other people.

Survivors include: a son, Dr. Peter Gianas of Starke, FL.; two daughters, Sophia Gianas of Olean and Cynthia Schroeder of Wellsville; 4 grandchildren, Christina, Timothy, Courtney and Michael; Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, January 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 am in the Funeral Home with Father George Zervos presiding. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery and memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to either the Friends of the Pines, 2245 West State Street, Olean, New York, 14760. Or to the Alzheimer's Association.
