William P. Weinhauer, 94

Wellsville, NY – William P. Weinhauer, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Wellsville Manor, in Wellsville, NY.  He was born May 17, 1930, in Wellsville, the son of the late Paul W. and Genevieve (Graham) Weinhauer.

Dad was a native of Wellsville, graduating from Wellsville High School in 1948.  From 1948 -1950 he was employed by the Weldonian Dairy as a milkman.  In 1950 – 1951 he was employed at Worthington Corporation in Wellsville.  In 1951- 1953 he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and in the Army Reserves from 1953 until 1961.  On October 17th, 1953, he married Marlene (Pohl).  In 1953 – 1992 he worked as a machinist for Worthington Corporation, retiring after 40 years.  On September 29, 1973, he married Sibyl Ann (Ackley) Bliss Cutlip.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Wellsville, a member of the Wellsville Grand Squares, enjoyed chasing the hot air balloons and loved to rabbit hunt with his beagles Judy & Ginger.  Automobiles were his passion, where he spent countless hours in his garage, and he loved going to all the county fairs. In retirement Bill delivered Meals on Wheels.

Bill is survived by his (2) daughters, Janet (William Sweet) Kemp, Jeannine (Will Smith) Weinhauer of Wellsville, (4) grandchildren, Susan (Peter) Harris, Limestone, NY, Shelley (LJ Sanchez) Golish, Buffalo NY, & Dustin (Danyelle) Feeley, Rochester, NY, Sheila Kemp of Wellsville and several great grandchildren.  He is also survived by a niece Carrie W. (Leon) Smith, (2) nephews Charles D. (Debora) White, Bradley P. (Tracy) White, his stepchildren: Gerald Bliss, Westfield PA, Thomas (Connie) Bliss, Wilmot Township, PA and James (Linda) Bliss, Westfield, PA., a cousin, Lynda [Bill] Rogers.

He was predeceased by his wife first wife, Marlene Rose, his second wife Sibyl Ann Weinhauer, his sister, Jane White, his brother-in-law, Charles White and his grandson, Grant Kemp III.

A special thank you to his caregivers:  Sheila Kemp, Lisa Geffers & Jeanett Cornelius who assisted with his daily care at his home, it was sincerely appreciated.  A thank you to the Wellsville Ambulance Corp., Jones Memorial Hospital, Highland Nursing Home & the Wellsville Manor for their assistance as well.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday August 6th from 11 am till 12 noon in the First Trinity Lutheran Church of Wellsville. The Funeral Service will be held in Church at 12 noon. Burial with full military Honors will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Sarah “Sally” (Schaal) Smalley, 95

Wellsville, NY - Sarah “Sally” (Schaal) Smalley went home to be with her Lord and Savior onWednesday, July 24, 2024. Sally was born on February 10, 1929, in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of Earl Volk and Helen (Dye) Schaal.

Sally graduated from Michigan State University in 1951. There she met and married her college sweetheart, Bruce Alan Smalley. Upon marriage, theybecame United Methodist missionaries and spent the next 11 years in Southern Rhodesia, where she taught sewing, cooking and other homemaking skills to the local African women. Sally was a true helpmate and partner to Bruce in all of life’s endeavors.  

In 1963, the Smalleys moved back to the United States to live near her family in East Aurora, NY. In 1972, Bruce was offered a new job with Cooperative Extension in Belmont, NY. While in Belmont, they served the United Methodist Church, faithfully, for nearly 50 years.

Sally had 4 children of whom she was very proud. Fred (Julie) Smalley of Levan, Utah, Bob (Laurie) Smalley of Brant Lake, NY, Percillah (Mark) Woodard of Brockport, NY, and Carol (Bill) Tompkins of Belmont, NY. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, whom she prayed for daily.

As a wife and mother, she was “all in.” Whether it was 4-H, a sporting event,  school activity, or some other project, she was always there, supporting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in anything that piqued their interest. Her generous heart, huge smile, infectious laugh and giving spirit contributed to a life well-lived.

Eugene Cowper Ashline, 93

Wellsville, NY – Eugene Cowper Ashline, 93, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Highland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 10, 1931, in Huntington, Long Island, the son of the late Eugene Joseph and Ivy Ruby (Grace) Ashline. On April 4, 1959, in Genesee, PA, he married his wife of 59 years, Audine M. Say, who predeceased him on April 2, 2018.

Gene was a 1947 graduate of Highland Springs High School in Highland Springs, VA. He continued his education at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, earning his BSME in 1953. He found his career in the Worthington Corporation, beginning in Harrison, NJ, and after participating in their multi-location training program, he was assigned to their Steam Turbine Division in Wellsville. He remained with Worthington, and their successor companies, for 40 years, attaining the position of Engineering Manager – Standard Products before retiring from Dresser-Rand Corp. in 1993. Outside of his employment, he followed his long-standing interest in railroad equipment, operations, facilities, and history by being a member of the National Railway Historical Society’s Niagara Frontier Chapter in Tonawanda. Additionally, he was a member of the Stannards United Methodist Church for 58 years, singing in their choir, until their closure in 2017, from 2018 until his passing, he attended the Allentown United Methodist Church. 

He is survived by a brother, Ronald Clive Ashline of Oak Ridge, TN; a nephew, Peter Cowper Ashline of Signal Mountain, TN; and a niece, Debra Sue Horn, of Lexington, KY. 

Friends are invited to call on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the J.W. Janet Evelyn Jinske, 85

Syracuse, NY – Janet Evelyn Jinske, 85, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Janet was born in Wellsville, NY, to Marshall and Edna (Hanks) Weinman. 

Upon getting married in 1964 she moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She had five children in Stevens Point before moving to Liverpool, NY in 1978. Janet worked as a word processor for Bond, Schoeneck & King before retiring in 2001. She made people laugh with her quick wit and feisty sarcasm. Janet loved people watching, chatting with family and strangers alike, sharing recipes, crafting, flowers, gardening and all animals, even feeding squirrels straight from her hand. She enjoyed watching Yankees baseball, Syracuse University football and basketball, and most especially her “story”, the Young & the Restless. She also loved doing crossword puzzles, word searches and playing Solitaire. Her door was always open for anyone who wanted to come home. 

Janet is predeceased by her parents, Skip and Edna; her brother, Jim Weinman; and long-time partner, David Fahey. She is survived by her brother, Donald Weinman; her five children: Lisa (Rob) Hall, Laurie St-Amour, Lynn (Andrew) Heyman, Loni Durham and Jonathan Jinske; 11 grandchildren: Ashley (Sean) Hiller, Kelsey (Corey) Mancini, Tim (Katie) Durham, Ilayna Busch, Mason Busch, Lizzie Hall, Hannah Hall, Derek Heyman, Josey Heyman, Jonathan Jinske II, and Evelyn Jinske; six great-grandchildren; and other extended family members, nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be missed. 

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:00 am in J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home of Wellsville, 34 West State Street.
