Lynette May “Sally” Kaiser, 91

Wellsville, NY - Lynette May “Sally” Kaiser, 91, of 4192B Bolivar Road passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born May 6, 1930 in Whiting, IN the daughter of the late Joseph Roy and Ruth (McClelland) Kaiser.

Sally was a 1948 graduate of Wellsville High School. She was first employed by Bell Telephone as a telephone operator, and also worked in the business office. She was later employed by Jones Memorial Hospital as an admissions clerk. She was a member of the Wellsville First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a niece, Candice K. McCarthy of Wellsville, a nephew, Michael (Marilyn) McCarthy of Woodlands, TX, their children, Kyle and Lindsay, a brother, Dr. James (Linda) Kaiser of England, and their daughter Charlotte.

 She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Robert McCarthy, and a brother, Bobby Kaiser.    

A private graveside service is being planned at Woodlawn Cemetery. Erma C. Allen, 85

Wellsville, NY - Erma C. Allen, 85, of Bolivar Road, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021. She was born on May 12, 1936 in Wellsville the daughter of the late Alfred and Zennia (Griswold) Allen.

Erma was a 1955 graduate of Wellsville High School. Upon graduation she entered the workforce, starting her career in the textile industry at Wellsville Glove Factory; later she continued on in her career with the Marion-Rohr Corporation in Hornell. Outside of work, she was a very quiet person who loved to get her hands dirty in her flower and vegetable gardens. Not only was she an animal lover, but also someone who loved to cook and bake for her friends and family. 

She is survived by: two sisters, Connie Mills of Wellsville, and Ann Gee of Wellsville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by: a sister, Audrey Miller; and 3 brothers-in-law, Elwood Miller, Bob Gee, and David “Red” Mills.

Homer R. Doty, 90

Belmont, NY: Homer R. Doty, 90, of Feathers Creek Road passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville following a brief illness.  He was born May 29, 1931 in Greenwood, the son of the late Ariel and Bertha Mae (Edwards) Doty. On October 5, 1951 in Belmont he married Karol Kurtz who survives. In October Homer and Karol would have celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Homer was raised in Greenwood until his family moved to Belmont in 1941. He was a graduate of Belmont Central School, and served two years with the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed at Acme Electric in Cuba, Borden Dairy in Belmont, and for 28 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Belmont, including 14 years as Postmaster. He retired in 1986. After retiring Homer and Karol spent 13 winters at their home in Lady Lake, Florida. He was a member of the Belmont First United Methodist Church, the Scio Rod and Gun Club, the Wellsville Moose Lodge #601, and the Federal and State Postmaster's Association. He was a member and Past Commander of the Herbert Delong American Legion Post 808 in Belmont, and a member and past treasurer of the Belmont Rotary Club for many years. Homer enjoyed gardening, hunting, and spending time watching wildlife from his cabin in the woods.

Surviving in addition to his wife, is a daughter Jane Spencer of Cummings, GA; son, Timothy (Roseann) Doty of Port Charlotte, FL; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Kurt Doty, two brothers, Francis and Herman Doty, and five sisters, Bertha Brown, Shirley Cannioto, Ruth Deats, his twins, Leah Nesbit and Lena Fuller.

Ruth Wood Marino, 75

Roanoke, VA - Ruth Wood Marino, 75, of Roanoke, VA, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 13, 2021 after fighting a courageous battle with dementia. She was born May 17, 1946 in Wellsville, NY the daughter of the late Robert and Ernestine (Secor) Wood formerly of Whitesville, NY.

After graduating from Whitesville Central School, Ruth earned a Baccalaureate Degree in Music from Nyack College. She taught music at Whitesville Central School and later directed music at several churches, which was her true passion. Ruth enjoyed a career with Automatic Data Processing in New York City for 25 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Alice Ruth Marino; and a son, Paul Robert Marino both of NYC; two sisters, Elizabeth Shores of Roanoke, VA. and Cindy (James) Van Druff of Huntersville, NC, as well as two nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased in addition to her parents, by a brother-in-law, Blake Shores.

Dr. Peter J. Gianas, 65

Wellsville, NY - Dr. Peter J. Gianas, 65, of Starke, Florida passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2021, following a brief illness. He was born in January 8, 1956 in Wellsville, NY the son of the late John and Annette (Cretekos) Gianas. He grew up in Wellsville and graduated as the Class of 1974's Valedictorian.

Peter attended Johns Hopkins University and continued on to George Washington University for medical school, graduating in 1982. Dr. Gianas moved to Starke, Florida where he started his private practice and began work at Shands Hospital in 1983. He so loved the community of Starke, he stayed and practiced medicine for the rest of his life there.

Dr. Gianas served as the Medical Director for Alachua County Fire Rescue, Bradford County EMS, Bradford County Fire Rescue, Clay County Fire Rescue, Union County EMS, Gilchrist County Fire Rescue, Starke Fire Rescue, Santa Fe Community College EMS Programs, Florida Gateway EMS Training Programs, AHEC Board of Directors, International Trauma Life Support Board of Directors, and as an Emergency Medicine Educator in many capacities.

Pete had a brilliant mind and a compassionate soul. He loved practicing medicine because he loved caring for people. He was a lifelong learner and a gifted teacher. Bradford County Emergency Medical Service was known and respected around the world for its cutting edge delivery of service to the community of Northern Florida.

Pete had a wonderful sense of humor and was a master story teller. He was a generous, loyal, loving man whose influence was felt on all who knew him. Dr. Pete will be truly missed.

Dr. Gianas is survived by sisters Sophia Gianas and Cynthia Schroeder; two nieces, Christina Schroeder and Courtney (Brett) Stevens; two nephews, Timothy (Alicia) Schroeder and Michael Gianas; great nieces Makenzie Wheeler and Eryn Laskarzewski and a great nephew, Alex Laskarzewski; Aunt Shirley and Uncle John Giopulos, and their family; and longtime friend, Lynn Fulmer.

Visitation for family and friends will be  Saturday, August 21, 2021 from noon to 2:00 pm at the Grace United Church, 289 N. Main Street, Wellsville, NY. William Burton Daily, 96

Wellsville, NY - William Burton Daily, 96, of Riverside Drive passed a way peacefully on August 6 at his home. Burton, affectionately known as “Spike” to close friends and family, was born on December 6, 1924 in Wellsville to the late Louis and Hazel Crowell Daily. On November 7, 1953 he married the former Joanne “Pidge” Christman, who predeceased him on December 17, 2019.

He was raised in Wellsville and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1942. Burton attended Alfred University for one semester before enlisting in the United States Navy. After completing Quartermaster School, Burton was assigned to the PT Boats. At this time he tested for the military's V12 program, passed and was sent to Yale University, where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Shortly after graduation, Burton joined Air Preheater and spent the next 40 years in their employ. He started out as a draftsman and retiring in 1988 as manager of customer service. He had served on the Wellsville School Board and was one of the founding members of L.O.P.E. Burton was currently the longest serving member (76 years) and Life Member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge No. 1495.  He was also a Life Member of the Morrison Hayes Post 702, American Legion of Wellsville.

Survivors include his two daughters, Lynn Brunette of West Suffield, CT. and Beverly “Chris” [Jason] McChesney of Morgantown, WV.; five grandchildren, Paul, Peter, Catherine, Ben, and Sarah; several nieces and a nephew; and his beloved care givers.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife and an infant brother, Robert.
