Jean P. Wilcox

Wellsville, NY - Jean P. Wilcox, age 95, of Pine Street passed away on Sunday April19, 2020 at Highland Hospital in Rochester. She was born on July 24, 1924 in Caneadea to Eli and Jennie Rolfe Thornton. On October 6, 1946 in Elmira she married Richard Wilcox who predeceased her on November 23, 1991.

Jean graduated from High School in Tioga, Pennsylvania and had worked for the Gorton Coy Department Store in Elmira. In 1946 she moved to Wellsville where she was the cosmetic buyer and ran the cosmetic department for Rockwells for 32 years. She later became the manager for Gardner Heights and was past president of the Wellsville Art Association.

Survivors include her son Scott Wilcox of Meadville, PA.,

Jean was predeceased by her husband Richard, a daughter Amy Dickerson, two sisters Thelma Hass and Alice Magee and a brother Jack Thornton.

Leonard E. Osgood

  

Wellsville, NY - Leonard E. Osgood, 75, of 3524 Route 417, died on Monday, April 20, 2020, shorty after arrival at the Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born July 4, 1944 in Wellsville, the son of the late William and Margaret (Burch) Osgood. On March 29, 1986, in Wellsville, he married Ruth Anderson who survives.

Leonard was raised in Wellsville and was a 1963 graduate of Wellsville High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division serving two tours in Vietnam between 1968 and 1970. He was formerly employed by Acme Electric in Cuba, Penn Yan Construction; welding bridges as I-86 was being constructed, Butler Larkin, CE Air Preheater, and retired from Dresser-Rand in1991. He was a member of Local 1580 IAM, an active member, Past President, and Board member of the Wellsville Rod & Gun Club, where he was instrumental in the relocation the trap field, now referred to as the “Leonard Osgood Trap Field”. He was a member and Past Commander of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW, and a 45 Year Life Member of the Genesee Hose Co. No. 5. In addition, he was a NYS Hunting Instructor, a member of the Allegany County Pheasant Program, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and stocking streams.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Ruth, are two step-daughters: Linda Bierman (Jay Greene) of Genesee PA, and Connie Graham of Ooltewah, TN; a step-son, Dennis (Robin) Graham of Wellsville, eight siblings, Glenn (Mildred) Osgood, Richard (Anne) Osgood, Gloria (Norman) Smith, Kay Schrlau, Althea Smith, Geraldine Flower (Guy Nichols)  Marietta Palmer, and Dale (Kathleen) Osgood, as well as several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in addition to his parents, by two brothers, William and Frank Osgood, a grandson Chad Graham, great-granddaughter, Chelsea Bierman, a brothers-in-law, William Schrlau, a sister-in-law, Ruth Osgood, and a niece, Brenda Raught.

A private burial with full military honors, will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. A public memorial will be planned for a later date. Joyce Donovan

Wellsville, NY - Joyce Donovan, 86 of 4462 Bolivar Road passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born May 31, 1933 in Kenmore, the daughter of the late Albert and Gladys (Hobart) Cater.

Joyce has resided in Wellsville since 1977, and was a member of the Knights Creek Church in Scio. She enjoyed taking care of her cats, and watching her favorite baseball team, The Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by a daughter, Anne (Michael) Gray of Paulsboro, NJ, a granddaughter, Rachel Bennett of Gloucester City, NJ, two great granddaughters, Charlotte McMahon and Peyton Moore, and her longtime companion, Irving Smith. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a son, Richard C. Donovan in 1976, and a Son-in-law, Andrew Bennett in 1995.

Richard “Dick” E. DeLap

Whitesville, NY - Richard “Dick” E. DeLap, 95, of Park Street, died on Saturday, Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville following a brief illness. Richard was born June 10, 1924 in Hornell, the son of Merton S. and Ruth (DeVinney) DeLap. 

He attended Hornell public schools and proudly served in the United States Army with the 112th Cavalry from 1942 until 1946 including battles and campaigns in Luzon, New Guinea, Southern Philippines where he earned several medals including two bronze stars, WWII Victory Medal and Philippines Liberation Ribbon. His father, Merton, a WWI veteran, accompanied Richard the day after returning home, to join the Hornell VFW Post No. 2250, where he would later tend bar in the 1950s and continued to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow veterans for the next 70 plus years.

Richard regularly held two or three jobs as mechanic, bartender etc. in the Hornell area while pursuing his full-time career of 31 years with the Erie Lackawanna Railroad before retiring in 1973. 

Richard married the love of his life, Mary Louise Goodridge on July 10, 1972. They enjoyed traveling and fishing together on Keuka and Seneca Lakes, throughout the United States and Canada and never missed a major event for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren in New Hampshire. Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman who spent many hours playing cards and Euchre tournaments with Mary. He was a life member of the VFW Post 2530, and the American Legion Post 702, Wellsville and a member of the 40/8, Local #10.   

He is survived by his niece, Lois (Lewis) Tuma of Corning, NY; nephew Walter M. (Elaine) DeLap of  Vero Beach, FL; step-son, Paul Goodridge of Merrimack, NH; grandchildren Timothy (Starr) Goodridge of Merrimack, NH; Laurie (Finlay) Rothhaus of Merrimack, NH; Theresa (Patrick) Dougherty of Wellsville; Phil Kopp of Marietta, GA; Bridget (John) Burkett of Wickliffe, OH; Paula (Patrick) Walsh of Euclid, OH; Thomas (Alyssa Brown) Goodridge of Billerica, MA; Patrick (Bobbie) Goodridge of Sanbornton, NH; Dennis (Tegan) Goodridge of Dover, NH; Joseph (Karen Ray) Goodridge of Amherst, NH; twenty-seven great-grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren. 

Richard is predeceased by his wife, Mary (Chisholm, Goodridge) DeLap, brothers, Roy DeLap, Walter DeLap, Thomas DeLap; sisters, Mary DeLap; Marjorie Bromley; niece Peggy Anne DeLap, granddaughter Mary Katherine (Goodridge) Kopp and great-great grandson, Logan Burkett. 

A Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church in Genesee, PA and burial with military honors at Whitesville Rural Cemetery, will be planned in the upcoming months. Leo W. Eaton

Wellsville, NY - Leo W. Eaton, 91, of 3253 First Street passed away at home on Sunday, April 12, 2020. He was born November 21, 1928 in Coudersport, PA, the son of the late Elwyn Avery and Zelma (Kuhn) Eaton. On March 25, 1949 in Wellsville, he married Joyce Mae Buckhout who predeceased him on November 10, 2016.

All his working life Leo was employed at C. E. Air Preheater Company, beginning in 1948 and retiring in 1991. He was a member McEwen Hose Company # 4. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and father-in-law, who dedicated his life to his family and God's creatures. He enjoyed traveling with his wife across the United States, camping, and watching wildlife.

He is survived by three daughters, Karen (Chris) Remick of Palmer, AK, Kathy (Howard) Warren of Purcell OK, and Laura (Dennis) Skluzacek of Palmer, AK, a son, James (June) Eaton of Wellsville, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Betty (Robert) Carroll, and Marjorie Guido, a sister-in-law, Audrey Eaton, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents and wife, by three brothers, Elwyn, Clifton, and Richard Eaton, and three sisters, Pearl Baldwin, Gertrude Dunham, and Genevieve Stuckey.

Marjorie L. Finn

Wellsville, NY - Marjorie L. Finn, 92, formerly of 147 South Broad Street, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born July 28, 1927 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Leo V. and Lillian (Trahey) Ludden. On September 30, 1950, she married Leo E. Finn who predeceased her on February 7, 1991.

Marjorie graduated from the Immaculate Conception School, St. Elizabeth's Academy in Allegany and from the Bryant & Stratton Institute in Buffalo. She was previously employed by Sinclair Refinery, Ludden Realty, and Ludden's Shoe Store all in Wellsville.

Marjorie was a Past President of the Altar & Rosary Society, taught religious education at the Immaculate Conception School, volunteered in the school cafeteria and the Immaculate Conception Church. She was a talented seamstress and a member of the School House Quilters. She enjoyed baking and taking care of her family.

Surviving are two daughters, Theresa (Dan) Kunis of Fort Collins, CO; and  Barbara (Roger) Ramsey of Wellsville; a son, Timothy Finn of Portland, OR; three sisters, Reginia McGinnis of Rochester, Lois Sullivan of Stokesdale, NC, and Ann (Terry) Margeson of Wellsville, three grandchildren, Gena (Austin) Bailey, Caitie (Joe) Whalen, and Wiley Finn, a great granddaughter, Rosemary Whalen, a daughter-in-law, Maggie Finn of Wellsville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son Brian Finn, a brother, Donald Ludden; a sister, Helen Andrews, and three nieces: Jeri Thurston, Bridget Drum, and Kathy Graziano, and a nephew, Joseph Sullivan.

Ethel Kish Morrison

Wellsville, NY - Ethel Kish Morrison, 88, of 17 McDowell Avenue passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the Highland Park Healthcare Center following a long illness. She was born January 26, 1932 in Galeton, PA the daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Gazdag) Kish. On July 24, 1950 in Scio she married Donald L. Morrison who predeceased her on September 21, 2003. Ethel was raised and attended school in Ulysses, PA. She was a member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Darlene (Richard) Nydegger of Wellsville, two granddaughters, Vickie (Mark) Ketchner of Wellsville, and Becky (Chris) Foth of Rock Hill, SC, three great grandsons, Brayden Ketchner, Eric Foth, and his fiance` Gina Piscitelli, and Justin (Morgan) Foth all of  York, SC, a sister, Susie Weber of Spring Hill, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by three brothers, Robert, John, and Frank Kish, and one sister, Agnes Burrell.
