Virginia F. Petrie

Wellsville, NY - Virginia F. Petrie, age 89, of Riverside Drive passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on August 7, 1930 in Roulette, PA to Carroll and Emma Zizka Fessenden. In 1948 she married Philip Petrie who predeceased her on October 26, 1989.

Virginia was a longtime resident of the Scio/ Wellsville Area and graduated from Roulette High School in 1948. On August 7, 1948 she married her high school sweetheart and later became a stay at home mom. Her second career began at Halls Drug Store and she retired from Peterson's Drug Store. In her retirement she enjoyed a quiet life.

Survivors include a son, Brian (Dawn)  Petrie of Mount Pleasant, NC; a daughter, Michele (Patrick)  Barry of Wellsville; 5 grandchildren, Hope (Marcus)  King of Harrisburg, NC, Jill (Mike)  Dube of Concord, NC, Marc (Frances)  Petrie of Clifton Park; Shannon (Ryan)  Alban of Bel Air, MD, and Christopher (Christie)  Barry of Baldwin, MD; 9 great grandchildren Addison, Chelsea, Zachary, Alexander, Connor, Julie, Elsie, Bryson, and Victoria; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, 3 brothers, Robert, Russell and Richard Fessenden, and a sister, Valera Weimer.

Leona S. Scott,

Belmont, NY - Leona S. Scott, age 91, formerly of State Route 19 South passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Jones Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 1, 1928 in West Union to  Walter E. Kelly and Susan Jane Cornell. On May 28, 1955 In Belvidere she married George E. Scott who predeceased her on August 14, 1988.

Leona was raised in Whitesville and spent most of her life in the Belmont Area.  She had worked for the Belvidere Restaurant, Weinhauer's Restaurant in Scio and last she worked for the Belmont Hotel as a waitress, a cook and a bartender. She was long time member of the Herbert DeLong American Legion Post #808 Auxiliary of Belmont. Leona was a devoted wife and a wonderful mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family.

Leona is survived by her two daughters, Georgia Watson and Jane Hurd both of Belmont; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey, Leslie, Brent, Tracy, Alisha, Richard and Rhonda; several great grand children and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Leona was also predeceased by her parents, a daughter Janet L. Whitney, two grandchildren Amanda and Brian, three sisters and five brothers.

Lola J. Cline

Wellsville, NY - Lola J. Cline, 85, of 1974 Hallsport Road, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019 at the Hart Comfort House, she was born July 14, 1934 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Harry S. and Florence (Baker) Allen. On August 2, 1952 in Wellsville, she married Lester V. Cline, who survives.

In addition to being a homemaker, Lola was a Restorative Aide at the Highland Park  Healthcare Center in Wellsville, and was the Office Manager at Cline Retreading Company in Wellsville. She enjoyed reading, making afghans, bowling and watching television.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are two sons Thomas (Patricia) Cline and Kenneth (Teresa) Cline, a daughter Debra (Guy) Jackson, all of Wellsville, a brother, Richard Allen,  a  half-brother, Lelon (Shirley) Allen, 11 grandchildren, Tabitha (Mark) Jachlewski, Rachel (John) Wells, Nathanael (Erinnae) Cline, Deborah Cline, Timothy (Amy) Cline, Jason Cline, Megan (Michael) Fanelli, Jerad Cline, Andrew (Ashleigh) Cline, Carissa Jackson, and Jennifer (Justin) Henry; 10 great-grandchildren Atley, Elizabeth, Isabelle, Brenda, Luca, Wrigley, Ripken, Logan, Braedyn, and Colin, several nieces and nephews, and two special sisters in-law, Ruth Carney and Eleanor Harrison. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her step-mother, Eva Allen, her sister Bonnie (Allen) Wheeler, step brother, Robert Eck, sister-in-law, Marcella Allen, special brother-in-law, Harry Carney, and a great grandson, Salvatore Fanelli.

William B. Carlin

Wellsville, NY - William B. Carlin, 77, of 2231 Stannards Road passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, surrounded by his family at the Bath VA Medical Center following a long battle with cancer. He was born on February 18, 1942 in Wellsville the son of the late Bernard James and Mabel (Sortore) Carlin.

Bill was a 1961 graduate of Wellsville High School. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1961 to 1966. During his enlistment he was stationed in Norfolk, VA. and Holy Lock, Scotland. Once discharged, Bill went to work at Worthington Corporation in Wellsville in April of 1966 and retired in 2002 from Dresser-Rand Corporation after 40 years of service. 

He was a member, Past Captain, and Past President of the McEwen Hose Company No. 4.  He was a member of the Allegany County Association of Volunteer Firemen, Southwestern Association of Volunteer Fireman. He was also a Life Member, and  Past Commander, serving 3 terms, of the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion in Wellsville.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Chuck) Duesler of Little Genesee, two sons, Mark (Becky) Carlin of Palmerton, PA, and Kevin (Christa) Carlin of Richmond, KY, six grandchildren, Heather Jordan, Aric Jordan,  Krista Carlin,  Liam Carlin, Ira Carlin, and Noah Carlin, a brother, Thomas Paul Carlin of Scio and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents, by his brother, and sister-in-law, James F. and Carole Carlin.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Saturday, December 7, from 10:00 to 10:30 am at the J. W. Joan E. Watson

Belmont, NY - Joan E. Watson, 88, went to be with the Lord, at the home of her son, Dean on December 4, 2019, of congestive heart failure.  She was born September 8, 1931 in Erie, PA the daughter of the late Richard J. and Marian A. (Knipper) Heuer She was raised in Wellsville and was a 1948 graduate from Wellsville High School.  On February 24, 1951 in Belmont she  married Raymond K. Watson who predeceased her on June 7, 2003. Joan worked at many businesses, including Gunlocke Upholstery in Almond and retired from the Allegany County Office for the Aging.

Joan attended the Belmont First Baptist Church, and she loved music and dancing. She was a member of Sunshine Club in Scio, and the Belmont Growing Stronger.  She enjoyed sewing, making crafts, and baking. She was a feisty and beautiful women with a sweet disposition, and was kind to everyone she met. 

She is survived by four daughters, Laura (Spencer) Conklin of Bath, Kathy (Russ VanNostrand) Hooker of Arkport, Sharon (Martin) Woodard of Canisteo, Diane Burdick of Hornell, two sons, Dean (Carrie) Watson of  Belmont, and Dale (Tiersa) Watson of Wellsville, a brother, Russell Heuer of Haslet, Texas, 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to parents and husband by a son, Donald, a sister Marian Hankins; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and a special friend, Max Knapp.

Cynthia Ann Robbins

Belmont, NY - Cynthia Ann Robbins, 63, formerly of Odessa, NY. passed away at her home with her husband by her side in Belmont on November 30, 2019. She was the daughter of Freeman and Eunice [Hodge] Cooper, born on April 16, 1956. Cindy married Alva Robbins on May 3, 1974 and together they shared a wonderful life, raising two children [Alva Robbins and Nicole Robbins] and two step children [Amy Turner and Mary Smith].

Cindy was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren  and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. Cindy loved to love on people. Her hands were rarely still as she was always crocheting, knitting or crafting something for someone. She shared her passions with her devoted, loving sister Nancy Thomas. She enjoyed playing Euchre and treasured her memories of traveling with her husband and family over the years. Cindy was fierce with determination in life and never gave up easily.

Roger E. Linza

Belmont, NY - Roger E. Linza, age 87, of Willets Avenue passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at home following a lengthy illness. He was born on August 4, 1932 in Wellsville to Max and Faith Withey Linza. On July 26, 1952 in Wellsville he married Marian Herke who predeceased him on August 11, 2001. In Houston Texas on February 14, 2004 he married Helen Redman who survives.

Roger graduated from Wellsville Central High School and was a long time resident of the Wellsville and Stannards area and had served 2 years in the US Army Medical Corps. He had worked for R.V. Umiker Grocery Store, Worthington Corporation and later he became the owner of  Linza's Meat Market. In his retirement Roger took on a delivery route for the Cheese Factory of Blasdell and was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church.

Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons, Dennis Linza of Michigan and Michael (Karen)  Linza of Wellsville; a daughter, Kathy (Paul)  Good of Horseheads; a step son, Bruce Carpenter of Rapid City, South Dakota ; 3 step daughters, Gail Green of Sun City Florida, Barbara Wells of Angelica and Tina Tennant of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia; 3 brothers, Reverend Raymond (Barbara)  Linza of Jamestown, Harley (Phillis)  Linza of West Field, Pennsylvania, and Gary (Connie)  Linza of Stannards; a sister, Marjorie Layton of Moravia;a sister in law, Janet Linza of Houston Texas; 7 grand children, several great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step  great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Roger was also predeceased by his son David Linza and his brothers,Max, Merle, Ernest, Donald and Dale Linza.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, December 5  at the Belmont United Methodist Church  from 11 am until 12 noon. A funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the church with Reverend Stephen Crowell  presiding with burial in Yorks Corner's Cemetery.
