William P. Weinhauer, 94

Wellsville, NY – William P. Weinhauer, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Wellsville Manor, in Wellsville, NY.  He was born May 17, 1930, in Wellsville, the son of the late Paul W. and Genevieve (Graham) Weinhauer.

Dad was a native of Wellsville, graduating from Wellsville High School in 1948.  From 1948 -1950 he was employed by the Weldonian Dairy as a milkman.  In 1950 – 1951 he was employed at Worthington Corporation in Wellsville.  In 1951- 1953 he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and in the Army Reserves from 1953 until 1961.  On October 17th, 1953, he married Marlene (Pohl).  In 1953 – 1992 he worked as a machinist for Worthington Corporation, retiring after 40 years.  On September 29, 1973, he married Sibyl Ann (Ackley) Bliss Cutlip.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Wellsville, a member of the Wellsville Grand Squares, enjoyed chasing the hot air balloons and loved to rabbit hunt with his beagles Judy & Ginger.  Automobiles were his passion, where he spent countless hours in his garage, and he loved going to all the county fairs. In retirement Bill delivered Meals on Wheels.

Bill is survived by his (2) daughters, Janet (William Sweet) Kemp, Jeannine (Will Smith) Weinhauer of Wellsville, (4) grandchildren, Susan (Peter) Harris, Limestone, NY, Shelley (LJ Sanchez) Golish, Buffalo NY, & Dustin (Danyelle) Feeley, Rochester, NY, Sheila Kemp of Wellsville and several great grandchildren.  He is also survived by a niece Carrie W. (Leon) Smith, (2) nephews Charles D. (Debora) White, Bradley P. (Tracy) White, his stepchildren: Gerald Bliss, Westfield PA, Thomas (Connie) Bliss, Wilmot Township, PA and James (Linda) Bliss, Westfield, PA., a cousin, Lynda [Bill] Rogers.

He was predeceased by his wife first wife, Marlene Rose, his second wife Sibyl Ann Weinhauer, his sister, Jane White, his brother-in-law, Charles White and his grandson, Grant Kemp III.

A special thank you to his caregivers:  Sheila Kemp, Lisa Geffers & Jeanett Cornelius who assisted with his daily care at his home, it was sincerely appreciated.  A thank you to the Wellsville Ambulance Corp., Jones Memorial Hospital, Highland Nursing Home & the Wellsville Manor for their assistance as well.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday August 6th from 11 am till 12 noon in the First Trinity Lutheran Church of Wellsville. The Funeral Service will be held in Church at 12 noon. Burial with full military Honors will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Sarah “Sally” (Schaal) Smalley, 95

Wellsville, NY - Sarah Sally (Schaal) Smalley went home to be with her Lord and Savior onWednesday, July 24, 2024. Sally was born on February 10, 1929, in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of Earl Volk and Helen (Dye) Schaal.

Sally graduated from Michigan State University in 1951. There she met and married her college sweetheart, Bruce Alan Smalley. Upon marriage, theybecame United Methodist missionaries and spent the next 11 years in Southern Rhodesia, where she taught sewing, cooking and other homemaking skills to the local African women. Sally was a true helpmate and partner to Bruce in all of life’s endeavors.  

In 1963, the Smalleys moved back to the United States to live near her family in East Aurora, NY. In 1972, Bruce was offered a new job with Cooperative Extension in Belmont, NY. While in Belmont, they served the United Methodist Church, faithfully, for nearly 50 years.

Sally had 4 children of whom she was very proud. Fred (Julie) Smalley of Levan, Utah, Bob (Laurie) Smalley of Brant Lake, NY, Percillah (Mark) Woodard of Brockport, NY, and Carol (Bill) Tompkins of Belmont, NY. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, whom she prayed for daily.

As a wife and mother, she was “all in.” Whether it was 4-H, a sporting event,  school activity, or some other project, she was always there, supporting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in anything that piqued their interest. Her generous heart, huge smile, infectious laugh and giving spirit contributed to a life well-lived.

Eugene Cowper Ashline, 93

Wellsville, NY – Eugene Cowper Ashline, 93, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Highland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 10, 1931, in Huntington, Long Island, the son of the late Eugene Joseph and Ivy Ruby (Grace) Ashline. On April 4, 1959, in Genesee, PA, he married his wife of 59 years, Audine M. Say, who predeceased him on April 2, 2018.

Gene was a 1947 graduate of Highland Springs High School in Highland Springs, VA. He continued his education at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, earning his BSME in 1953. He found his career in the Worthington Corporation, beginning in Harrison, NJ, and after participating in their multi-location training program, he was assigned to their Steam Turbine Division in Wellsville. He remained with Worthington, and their successor companies, for 40 years, attaining the position of Engineering Manager – Standard Products before retiring from Dresser-Rand Corp. in 1993. Outside of his employment, he followed his long-standing interest in railroad equipment, operations, facilities, and history by being a member of the National Railway Historical Society’s Niagara Frontier Chapter in Tonawanda. Additionally, he was a member of the Stannards United Methodist Church for 58 years, singing in their choir, until their closure in 2017, from 2018 until his passing, he attended the Allentown United Methodist Church. 

He is survived by a brother, Ronald Clive Ashline of Oak Ridge, TN; a nephew, Peter Cowper Ashline of Signal Mountain, TN; and a niece, Debra Sue Horn, of Lexington, KY

Janet Evelyn Jinske, 85

Syracuse, NY – Janet Evelyn Jinske, 85, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Janet was born in Wellsville, NY, to Marshall and Edna (Hanks) Weinman. 

Upon getting married in 1964 she moved to Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She had five children in Stevens Point before moving to Liverpool, NY in 1978. Janet worked as a word processor for Bond, Schoeneck & King before retiring in 2001. She made people laugh with her quick wit and feisty sarcasm. Janet loved people watching, chatting with family and strangers alike, sharing recipes, crafting, flowers, gardening and all animals, even feeding squirrels straight from her hand. She enjoyed watching Yankees baseball, Syracuse University football and basketball, and most especially her “story”, the Young & the Restless. She also loved doing crossword puzzles, word searches and playing Solitaire. Her door was always open for anyone who wanted to come home. 

Janet is predeceased by her parents, Skip and Edna; her brother, Jim Weinman; and long-time partner, David Fahey. She is survived by her brother, Donald Weinman; her five children: Lisa (Rob) Hall, Laurie St-Amour, Lynn (Andrew) Heyman, Loni Durham and Jonathan Jinske; 11 grandchildren: Ashley (Sean) Hiller, Kelsey (Corey) Mancini, Tim (Katie) Durham, Ilayna Busch, Mason Busch, Lizzie Hall, Hannah Hall, Derek Heyman, Josey Heyman, Jonathan Jinske II, and Evelyn Jinske; six great-grandchildren; and other extended family members, nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and will be missed.

Mary L. Austin, age 100

Belmont, NY – Mary L. Austin, age 100, formerly of Belmont passed away on Saturday July 20, 2024, at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 29, 1923, in Wayland to the late David and Mabel (King) Frazer. On October 16, 1993she married Charles Austin, who predeceased her.

Mary graduated from Savona High School and lived in that area until she married Charlie and moved to Belmont. She ran a day care in Savona and was member of, and cleaned, the Bath Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). She loved music and dancing and met Charlie while at a church dance, they later married. She became a member of the Wellsville Branch of the LDS Church and along with Charlie they sold rhubarb from their home in Belmont. She was active with the Relief Society, Green Thumb, and Meals onWheels. She loved cats, enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, driving her Volkswagen,and driving her PT Cruiser. The family would like to thank the staff at Wellsville Manor Hills and Jones Memorial Hospital for the wonderful care she received.

Survivors include 8 grandchildren, James (Patricia) Morgan, John Morgan, JefferyMorgan, Jeremy Morgan, Mindy Bulkley, Lynette Johnson, Steven Hovis and Dawn (Ben) Hovis Criss; 16 great grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

She outlived her children, Rose Mary Hovis and David Morgan; her siblings and her husbands, Howard Clugstone, Leonard Morgan, and Charles Austin.

Jane W. White, 89

Corning, NY – Jane W. White, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born March 26, 1935, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Paul W. and Genevieve (Graham) Weinhauer.

Jane was a lifelong resident of Wellsville, graduating from Wellsville High School in 1953. On September 4, 1954, she married her beloved husband of 61 years, Charles “Chuck” White, who predeceased her in 2016. She started working at the Bradley Producing Company and then found her career as the Church Secretary of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served for over thirty years. 

Proud of her faith, she was a devoted member of the Church and its various organizations. She was a loyal friend, maintaining lifelong friendships with those she held dear and spending many Tuesday afternoons with her bridge group gals. Above all, she cherished her family, giving her purpose and joy. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. It was through her family that her love shined. She will forever be remembered for gentle praise, strength, and warmth and for living her life with grace, and elegance.

Jane is survived by: a daughter Carrie W. (Leon) Smith of Corning; 2 sons Charles D. (Debora) White of Hartford and Bradley P. (Tracy) White of Anderson, SC; 7 grandchildren, Jason (Carrie Langley) Horton, Laura (Aaron) Clark, Lawrence (Crystal) Horton, Janine Kubricky, Dillon (Ashley Olden) White, Alexis (Ryan) Padden and Jada White; many great-grandchildren; a brother William Weinhauer; and two nieces, Janet Kemp and Jeannine Weinhauer and two nephews, Stephen and Robert Kisel.

Suzette Renee Carlin, 62

Wellsville, NY – Suzette Renee Carlin, 62, of Donovan Road, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Hart Comfort House peacefully, with her family by her side. She was born March 11, 1962, in Miami, FL, the daughter of the late Donald and Patricia (Clark) Davis. On October 11, 1997, in Wellsville, she married Gregory C. Carlin, who survives.

“Tutu” as her grandchildren called her, was raised in Montgomery, PA before moving to Maryland where she graduated from North Harford High School of Pylesville, MD with the class of 1980. During her time in Maryland, she was the 4H Barrel Racing Champion for four consecutive years. In 1990 she moved to Wellsville in search of a more peaceful atmosphere to raise her three children. Here she was employed by Lester Chevrolet as a car saleswoman, and by Tops Grocery Market. During that time, she also attended Alfred State College, earning herassociate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, while raising her three children on her own before meeting Greg. In the early 2000s, she and Greg acquired their first farm on the Vandermark Road in Scio, NY, where she enjoyed raising her first set of horses, pigs and chickens.

In January of 2010, Suzette and Greg purchased their final home on Donovan Road in Wellsville, where she loved to take care of her horses and various other animals including peacocks. She was an avid home cook, making delicious meals, often with food grown on her farm. Suzette loved being outside mowing the land around their beautiful farm. She especially loved when hervarious grandchildren would come to visit while having cookouts up at their cabin “The Goathouse Saloon”

In addition to her husband of 26 years, she is survived by: three children, Neal (Michelle) Bortmes of Millers, MD, Melissa (Jared) Streeter of Irvine, CA, and Nicholas (Nicole) Davis of Andover; step-son, Anthony Voccola; eight grandchildren, Gideon Bortmes, Gunnar Streeter, Gannon Streeter, Everly Streeter, Gwendolyn Davis, Grey Davis, Lincoln Voccola, and McKinley Voccola; two sisters, Margaret Luckey and Liza Davis; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Donna Eder and Patricia Oliver.

Warren B. Dixon, age 82

Hinsdale, NY - Warren B. Dixon, age 82, of the Isaman Road passed away on Saturday July 6 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born in Olean on November 14, 1941 to the late Zedric and Lois Amsler Dixon. In 1986 in Limestone, New York he married JoAnn Hill who survives.

Warren was a longtime resident of Limestone and later of the Hinsdale Area. He graduated from Limestone High School and later attended J.C.C. in Olean. In 1960 he joined the US Marine Corps and proudly served his country and The Corps until 1964. In 1965 he joined Dresser in Bradford and retired as a machinist after several decades of service. Warren was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and wood carving. He attended the Limestone Pentecostal Tabernacle in Limestone. He will be remembered as a good man who loved his family, his country and his God.

Surviving besides his loving wife JoAnn include four sons, Edward [Amy] Dixonof McKiney TX., Michael [Virginia] Sweeney of Harrisburg, PA., Kevin Hill of Goldsboro, NCand Thomas [Cheryl] Sweeney of Goldsboro, NC. ; two daughters, Jean Carpenter of Middleport and Katheen [John] See of Hinsdale; 17 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren; three sisters, Linda [Frank] Harrington of Limestone, Diane Reynolds of Buffalo and Mary [Dave] Wheeler of Buffalo as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Lori Dixon.

Adrian Vladimir Gregory-Kielbasa, 26

Angelica, NY – Adrian Vladimir Gregory-Kielbasa, 26, of Center Street, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in the Town of Cohocton. He was born January 23, 1998, in Batavia, the son of Jason Kielbasa and Miranda Gregory.

Adrian was raised in Elba and Scio, graduating from Scio Central School in 2017. He was the owner and operator of Grateful Tie Dyes, after inheriting it from special friend Mike “Wook” Whitney. He loved animals, dirt bikes, and was involved with the Dam Show of Austin, PA and Esitival Festival of CaneadeaNY. He was an avid nature lover, an artist, and a poet. 

He is survived by: his mother Miranda (Danny Coleman) Gregory and father Jason Kielbasa; siblings, twin Alexsander Gregory-Kielbasa, Baileigh Higby, Tatum Higby, and Jade Higby; grandparents, Joy & Frank Kielbasa, Robert & Sherry Gregory, and Dan Coleman; aunts Carrie (Cortney) Gale, Bridget Fairfield, and Katie Mills; uncle Adam (Stephanie Harris) Shipwash; acquired brother, DahmusLogue; close friend, Whitefeather; as well as several cousins. David J. Reed, 61

Wellsville, NY – David J. Reed, 61, of 60 Williams Avenue passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Jones Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.

He was born August 21, 1962, in Wellsville, the son of the late Arnold Llewelyn and Lena Ardell (Hunt) Reed.

David was raised in Wellsville and was a 1981 graduate of Wellsville High School. He was first employed by the Allegany County Job Track, and then he began his 31-year career with the Town of Wellsville, retiring in 2020. He was a social member of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW, and the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 702He enjoyed his many trips to McDonalds, Modern Diner,the Town & Country Market in Allentown, and more recently, he appreciated his niece delivering tea from Beyoutiful Nutrition. He loved Bingo, scratch off and rip tickets, game showsNASCAR, dirt track racing, family vacations to Daren Lake, giving his health care providers a hard time, and he absolutely loved the BuffaloBills.

He is survived by two sisters, Kathleen M. Whitesell of Andover, and Peggy Lou (David) Dixon of Wellsvillenieces and nephewsAmanda WhitesellRacheal (Joe) Dickerson, (who was special to David) Timothy Whitesell, Sarah Whitesell,Jasmine (Ben) Williams, and Joshua Dixon, great nieces and nephews, Jayden Reed, Gavan Dickerson, Dawson Reed, Miakoda Reed, Natalie Dickerson, Abby Stoneham, Harper Dickerson, Emma Williams, and his beloved dog “Tank”. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by a niece, Elizabeth Reed, a brother-in-law, Milford Whitesell, and a great niece, Angel Whitesell.
