Deborah J. "Debbie" Howitt Ellis


Olean, NY - Deborah J. "Debbie" Howitt Ellis, 58, of 219 South Union Street died on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Olean General Hospital with her family at her side. She was born November 26, 1951 in Meadville, PA the daughter of Arthur P. and Ruth (Johnston) DeMotte. She was raised in Meadville, graduated from North Alleghany High School in 1969 and had attended Westminster College.

Debbie was a former resident of Wellsville and Salamanca before moving to Olean in 2004. She was formerly employed as a Tourism Specialist for Allegany County; as a writer for W.L.S.V Radio in Wellsville and was a representative for the Hanley Insurance Company in Wellsville. She was a former member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Hemlock Twig and the Wellsville Lions Football Boosters. She had volunteered for the Randy Kuhl campaign and was a member of the Women's Republican Club.

She is survived by two sons, Seth (Lynda) Howitt of Williamson and Nathan Howitt of Myrtle Beach, SC, four grandchildren, Kaylee and Abigail Howitt and Sarah and Allison Decker, her mother, Ruth DeMotte of Uniontown, PA, a brother, Paul (Pati) DeMotte Jr. of Del Rio, TX, three sisters, Beverly (Dwayne) Santella and Karen (Ira) Chrise both of Uniontown, PA and Linda (Tom) Pichard of Seattle, WA, as well as several aunts & uncles and nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her father in 2002.

Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, March 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., 34 W. State Street in Wellsville, NY. A memorial service will follow visitation at 8:00 pm Wednesday in the funeral home with her brother, Rev. Paul DeMotte Jr. presiding. Memorial donations are suggested to National Lung Association.
