Patricia Anne Reed

Wellsville, NY - Patricia Anne Reed, 82, a former resident of Wellsville, New York passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2018 in Sparks Nevada. She was born September 8, 1936 in Wellsville New York the daughter of John C and Frances Piney Mesler Jr. She was married to Roy Lamb for two years and later to Milford Reed for a few years. 

Patricia has resided in the Reno NV area for the past four years with and near her son Perry and his wife. She had formerly resided in Alma, Wellsville, Olean, and Bolivar, NY, Smethport and Port Allegany, PA and Casper WY. She attended grade school in Alma and graduated Wellsville High School in 1955. She was employed at Weston's Shopper City, Olean Tile, the Jaguar Plant in Smethport, as well as numerous jobs in the Casper WY area. 

She was an avid member of the Baptist church. She enjoyed spending time with her children grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed motorcycles with her son. Her true passion was her teddy bear collection which was stunning. 

She is survived by her six children son Perry (Sue) Mesler of Reno NV, daughters, Tammy Edwards of Schenectady NY,  Sherri (Wally) Wasik of McDonald PA, Diane Reed of Sturgeon PA, son, John (Karen) Reed of Port Allegany, PA and daughter Suzanne (Mike) Zimmerman of Newtown CT, 15 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brothers Norm Mesler of Wellsville and Gary (Diane) Chandler of Casper WY, sister Shirley Green of Wellsville as well as 14 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father John C Mesler Jr. and her mother Frances Pinney Gale Chandler, a brother-in-law Boyd Green Sr and a nephew Jeff Green.

Mary Lou Hennessy

Wellsville, NY - Mary Lou Hennessy, 91, formerly of Amity Lake passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Manor Hills in Wellsville with her family at her side, and where she received such loving and compassionate care. She was born February 13, 1927 in Wellsville the daughter of the late, Herbert E. and Helen M. (King) Brundage. On August 20, 1949 in St. Mary's Church in Bolivar she married John J. Hennessy who predeceased her on December 27, 2012. 

Mary Lou cherished her family and was a devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of deep faith, found the good in everyone, and always put others before herself. Throughout her 63 years of marriage to Jack, she was integral to his success hosting business clients both domestically and internationally. She was a strong women who helped keep her family together, hosting reunions and Christmas Eve parties, and putting so much love, care, and detail into everything she did. 

                                                                                                                                                          She is survived by two sons, John (Christine) Hennessy, and Thomas (Kendra) Hennessy,  three daughters, Margaret (Lyle) Nye, Mary (Joseph) Smullin, and Patricia (James) Sanford, 14 grandchildren, John (Malancha) Hennessy, Gregory, and Peter Hennessy, Sarah, Samantha, and Shea Hennessy, Nicole, Jessica, Marissa, and Kathryn Nye, Joshua Smullin, and Kelsey (Alyssa) Smullin, Andrew, and Shannon Sanford, a brother, Richard (Shirley) Brundage, brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen (Richard) Brunell, Cathleen (Frank) Linnecke, Thomas (Mary) Hennessy, and Agnes (Thomas) Brush, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased in addition to her parents, and husband, by two brothers, Donald, and Herbert Brundage, a sister, Barbara Shaner, brothers and sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (James) Searle, William (Corinne) Hennessy, and James (Mary Ellen) Hennessy

Louis “Ben” Cornelius

Wellsville, NY - Louis “Ben” Cornelius, 91, of 4192A Bolivar Road passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center with his family at his side. He was born December 14, 1927 in Alfred, the son of the late Lloyd and Lillian (Fanton) Cornelius. On July 9, 1955 in Elm Valley he married Marilyn Pfohl who survives.

Ben was raised in Alfred and was a 1946 graduate of Alfred-Almond High School. He was a veteran the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and served in Germany during the Korean War. He was first employed by the Alfred Telephone Company, and Alfred Atlas Sand and Gravel. In 1956 he began his career as a lineman for New York Telephone in Wellsville and later was an installer until his retirement in 1989. In his retirement he became a partner in East Dyke Depot in Wellsville. He was an avid railroad modeler, and enjoyed kit-bashing the Wellsville, Addison, and Galeton Railroad for his extensive layout.

He was a member of the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion, the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW, the Wellsville Moose Lodge No.601, Elks Lodge No.1495, the Wellsville Lions Club, the Wellsville Country Club, and the Trinity Lutheran Church. He and Ron Tomah organized the annual “Indian Open Golf Tournament” at the Wellsville Country Club. In addition to railroad modeling, he enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, and hunting.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Louis “Ben” (Judith) Cornelius, and Bradley Cornelius both of Wellsville, a daughter, Karen Lane of Virginia Beach, VA, six grandchildren, Justin (Kari) Cornelius, Matthew (Diana Gowdy) Cornelius, Brian Lane, Kelly Lane, Joshua Cornelius, and Jacob Cornelius, a sister, Charlotte (Mac) Davis of Lehigh Acres, FL, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by a a infant daughter, Sharon, two brothers, Norman Frances, and Donald Cornelius, and a sister, Eleanor Hepworth.

Lyle D. Rahr

Wellsville, NY - Lyle D. Rahr , age 90, of Franklin Street passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Hart Comfort House in Wellsville. He was born on March 25, 1928 in Wellsville to the late Harold and Ethel Tait Rahr. On March 6, 1954 in Wellsville he married Mary L. Eymer who predeceased him on December 4, 2008.

Lyle graduated from Wellsville High School and enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1945 serving until 1948. He also served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until 1953. He started working at age 13 at Scoville Browns. In his early years he had worked for the Erie Railroad and for L.C. Whitford. He also worked as a meat cutter for several markets including the Nu-Way, and Super Duper. Lyle later retired from Air Preheater as a Expediter. He was a life time member of the American Legion Post #702 and was a proud member of the Military Color Guard. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post #2530, The Elks Lodge #1495, and was a former member of the the Moose lodge # 601. He enjoyed keeping his lawn mowed, gardening, playing cards , and playing Threes.

Survivors include his daughter, Dollie Ward of Scio; a son, Charles (Patti Haley)  McAhon of South Carolina; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Patricia)  Rahr of Hornell, and Jack (Joanie)  Rahr of Belmont; a sister in law, Joanne Rahr of Belmont; 3 grand daughters, Kim(Randy)  Smith, Robin McAhon, and Brandi (Ellis)  Dunn; 8 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Carolyn Costello McAhon of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and his many good friends including Ron (Jan Hungerford)  Tomah.

He was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters, Doris Eymer and Myrtle Jackson; a brother, Harold “Tink” Rahr; a daughter in law Dodie McAhon; a son in law, Tim Ward.

Leon G. Brown

Belmont, NY - Leon G. Brown, age 65, of Cemetery Hill passed away on December 7, 2018, at home. He was born on January 13, 1953 in Lackawanna to the late George and Ruth Odlin Brown.

Leon had lived In Malone and moved to Belmont with his family and graduated from Belmont Central High School. He a a veteran of the US Air Force who loved to hunt and had worked for Arc. Leon was a member of the Growing Stronger Group and was associated with the Office For the Aging. He will be remembered as a quiet man who frequented many Diners.

Leon is survived by several cousins and was predeceased by his parents.

John C. Johnson

Alfred Station, NY - John C. Johnson, 70, of 6338 Shaw Road passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with his family at his side. He was born February 22, 1948 in Kane, PA the son of the late Paul W. and Pauline (Speedy) Johnson.

John was raised in Hazelhurst, PA and was a graduate of Smethport High School. He was first employed at L. C. Whitford Company in Wellsville, and later was a architectural lesion, involved with large scale improvement projects at Alfred State College and Alfred University. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially football. He loved hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors.

He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth (Aaron) Partridge, Jennifer (Steven) Vogel, and Sarah (James) Crook, four grandchildren, Shelby Partridge, Tyler (Katelyn) Partridge, William  Partridge, and Sammy Crook, a brother, George “Zip” Speedy, a sister, Judith Shunk, a good friend, her children, and her grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Robert G. Wheaton

Belmont, NY - Robert G. Wheaton, 88, of 57 Greenwich Street passed away at home on Monday December 3, 2018, with his family at his side. He was born June 11, 1930 in Big Flats the son of William and Cora (Beers) Wheaton. On June 21, 1958 in Wellsville he married Patricia Knox who survives.

Bob was a graduate of Wellsville High School. He served with the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was longtime employee of Air Preheater Company in Wellsville. He was a life member and Past Commander of the Herbert DeLong America Legion Post 808 in Belmont, Past Commander of the Allegany County American Legion, a member of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW in Wellsville, and an honorary member of the Amity Rescue Squad. He enjoyed dancing, reading, mowing the lawn, and loved country music. 

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, William Wheaton and Eugene Wheaton both of Belmont, a daughter, Kimberly (Donald) Zajicek of Belmont, three grandsons, Shawn (Megan) Zajicek, Dustin (Katelyn) Zajicek, and Justin (Miranda) Zajicek, all of Belmont, two great grandsons, Konner and Zachary Zajicek, a sister, Mabel Mong of Wellsville, several nieces and nephews, and his canine companion, Zoe. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Wheaton, a brother, Roland Wheaton, a sister, Marion Jenson, and a brother-in-law, Terry Knox.

William J. “Bill” Cronin

Wellsville, NY - William  J. “Bill” Cronin of 146 Madison Street passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018, at Updykes Willow Ridge in Hornell. He was born on January 29, 1933 in Wellsville to the late Thomas F. and Mary C. (Dunigan)  Cronin. On December 1, 1956 he married  Ann Marvel who survives him.

Bill was a life long resident of Wellsville who graduated from the Immaculate Conception School and from Wellsville High School in 1950. During the Korean Conflict he served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Bill started working for Worthington Corporation in Wellsville and later took a job with New York Telephone retiring from AT&T in 1992. After his retirement he started Cronin's Communications where he continued repairing and trouble shooting phone service. Bill was a dedicated and faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He served the church in many capacities including Trustee, Eucharistic Minister, and as a member of the Mercy Associates. Bill and Ann were 45 year members of the Wellsville Grand Squares that included Coops Troops and the Penny Promenades Camping Group. He was a member of the Pioneers Group and he also participated in the Fresh Air Program for many years. Bill will be remembered as dedicated and hard working man.

Survivors include his wife, of 62 years, Ann; 2 sons, Joseph (Karen)  Cronin of Fairport, and Michael Cronin of Fairport; 2 daughters, Michele (Jim)  Nicoloff of Hornell , and Kimberly Cronin of Oneonta; 9 grandchildren, Patrick and Michael Nicoloff; William, Kelly, Daniel, and Susan Bunchuck; Katie, and Nicole Cronin; Nicolas Cronin; a brother, James (Loretta)  Cronin of Wellsville; a sister in law, Jane Cronin of Canisteo; several nieces and nephews including Shelly Callahan and Stacey Hungerford.

Bill was predeceased by his step mother Agnes Chapman; his brother Thomas Cronin;  his sister Lavina Voorhies.

Ernest “Ernie” Morales

Wellsville, NY - Ernest “Ernie” Morales, age 85, of 237 O'Connor Street passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 1, 1933 in New York City to the late Raymond and Carmen Ortiz Morales.

Ernie was a former long time resident of Willets Avenue in Belmont who had worked for PWI. Ernie will be remembered as a quiet kind hearted soul who always dressed nice and enjoyed music.

Robert “Bob” Lee McEnroe Sr.

Wellsville, NY - Robert “Bob” Lee McEnroe Sr. age, 87, of Pearl Street passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief hospitalization. He was born on December 2, 1930 in Wellsville to the late Chester and Mable McEnroe of Petrolia. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Alice Braunschweiger in December of 1950 who survives him.

Bob graduated from Wellsville High School in 1949 and then attended Alfred University. He graduated from Alfred with a degree in education and taught Social Studies at Richburg and Wellsville High Schools. Bob spent most of his career at Alfred State College working in financial aid and placement departments.

Bob was an exceptional athlete while in high school and college. He was one of the last Wellsville High School Students to letter in four sports and played on the Alfred University's undefeated 1956 football team. He was member of the St. Johns Episcopal Church, a past member of the Wellsville Lions Club, and a 67 year member and Honorary Life Member of the Elks Lodge 1495  where he served as Exulted Ruler. Bob was a long time volunteer greeter at Jones Memorial Hospital and was an avid sports enthusiast.

In addition to his wife Alice, Bob is survived by his 4 children, Robert McEnroe Jr. of Grants Pass, OR., Barbara Ann McEnroe of Long Beach, CA., Amy Marie Moore of West Islip, and David John McEnroe of Corning; a son in-law, Greg Hollod of Georgia; 9 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Bob was predeceased by his parents; his 4 older brothers, Donavan, Thomas, Chester, and Walter McEnroe; his daughter Kathryn Ellen Hollod.

Rosamonde C. Presutti

elmont, NY - Rosamonde C. Presutti, 94, a former long time resident of 6 McNinch Lane, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Cuba Memorial Hospital. She was born August 23, 1924 in Cameron, NY the daughter of the late Max and Clarissa (Rice) Clark. On June 18, 1949 at St Mary’s Church in Belmont, she married Peter William Presutti, who predeceased her on March 12, 2018.

Rosie was raised in Warsaw, and later resided in Belmont. During WW II, she moved to Buffalo to work in a war plant. Often we expressed how lucky we were to have known our own “Rosie the Riveter”. After the war; she returned to Belmont, married Peter and raised their family. They resided in St. Cloud, Minnesota for a short time, and in Duke Center, PA for past few years. Rosie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her sense of humor lit up the room. She was an excellent homemaker and loved cooking for friends and family. She was an avid reader and loved playing cards. Rosie was known for "cheating" and somehow always got away with it! Her faith was very important to her. She loved being with her friends in Belmont, golfing, going for coffee or lunch. She was a member of the Holy Family Altar Society, the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Twig, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was always willing to help someone in need.

she is survived by her son, Peter Presutti of Duke Center, PA, two daughters, Judith (John) Barrett of Duke Center, and Joanie Frost of Lake Tahoe, NV,  five grandchildren Elizabeth “Betsy” Presutti and her husband Christ, Nick Presutti, Dominick Presutti, Braden Barrett and Star Finch and her husband Mike, a great grandson Braxton Finch, a sister, Maxine Fendick of Perry as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to his parents and husband by a son, William M. Presutti, a granddaughter, Quinn Davis, three brothers,  Forrest, Lawrence, and Bernard Clark, and one sisters: Carolyn Abbott.

Daniel L. Dempsey

WHITESVILLE, NY - Daniel L. Dempsey, 69, departed this life with family by his side on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Born on October 24, 1949 in Buffalo, he was the son of John Robert (Rip) and Ethelmarie Lambrix Dempsey and grew up in Bennington, NY. On March 17, 1990 he married the former Susan Hillman in Whitesville where they made their home. Dan was a graduate of Attica High School and SUNY at Fredonia and earned a master’s degree from Alfred University.

As a young man, he enjoyed living in several different places in the United States and worked on residential carpentry crews, bridge construction crews, in retail positions and as a self employed firewood provider. After moving to Shongo in 1986, he established himself as a chainsaw artist who worked on commission and exhibited both wood and stone sculptures at juried art shows in western New York with his favorite being the Allentown Art Festival. He also worked as a substitute teacher in area schools, was an adjunct instructor of English at Alfred State for seven years and taught math and science at Immaculate Conception School for a year. He retired in 2011.

Dan greatly enjoyed family gatherings and was happiest when sharing time with his son Ryan. He enjoyed taking long walks, swimming, skiing, reading about and discussing current events, yakking with his siblings and working on house and yard projects. With hundreds of plantings of trees, bushes and flowers and basic homeowner carpentry and masonry skills, he turned a former pasture into a comfortable home for his family.

Left to greatly miss his constant jokes, improvised songs and goofy sayings (“I hardly ever eat sweets”) are his wife Sue and their son Ryan Dempsey of Rolla, Missouri. Also surviving are siblings Jim Dempsey of San Diego, CA, Terry (Pam) Dempsey of Manassas, VA, Tim Dempsey of Coldwater, MI, John (Zhi) Dempsey of Pittsford, NY, Sheila (Mike Buja) Dempsey of Atlanta, GA, Moira (Jerry) Lichen of Boca Raton, FL and Dan’s twin sister Kathy (John) Maryak of Columbia, MD. He will also be missed by his in-laws Patricia Miller of Angelica and Mike and Eva Hillman of Belfast and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Tom Dempsey and Mary Ellen Spurgeon.

C. Ruby Anderson

Bergen, NY - C. Ruby Anderson, age 81, of the Sackett Road passed away on Friday November 2, 2018, in the Premier Genesee Center of Batavia. She was born on July 15, 1937 in Wellsville to the former Louis and Velma Davis Freeman. On April 23, 1977 in LeRoy she married Harold James Anderson Jr. who predeceased her on May 28, 2018

Ruby was a graduate of the Wellsville Central High School who was a former resident of Churchville before making her home in Bergen. She was a self employed beautician who traveled to her customers homes. She enjoyed baking and making candy for her family at Christmas time.

Ruby is survived by a brother, Ronald (June) Freeman of Andover; a sister, Bonita Freeman of Wellsville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ruby was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a brother Douglas Freeman, and a sister Shirley Hamilton.

It is with great sadness that the family of Donald “Chris” Haggerty announces his unexpected passing October 31, 2018. He was born in Libertyville, Illinois on December 27, 1962 to the late Donald W. and Mary C. (Nord) Haggerty. Upon graduating from Lake Forest High School he moved to Jamestown NY.  There he met the love of his life and best friend, Linda Flint. They were married in Jamestown, NY on May 31, 1991.

Chris was a 1989 graduate of the Stockbridge School of Agriculture in Massachusetts with an AS in Turf Management.  In 1991 he graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BS in Integrated Pest Management, a program that was developed especially for him and an accomplishment that he was particularly proud of. 

Chris was a devoted family man, passionate golf course superintendent and loved outdoor activities. Chris’ favorite times were the time he spent with his family on their numerous trips around the country, and the time they spent together camping, boating, skiing and golfing. He was a sports fan who enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears and Cubs,and was always there to support his children as they competed in a multitude of sports, including little league, wrestling and marching band.

From a young age he found a talent working with tools and machinery. From boats, motorcycles, and heavy equipment to woodworking, electronics, and construction, there wasn’t a project he couldn’t complete. He loved a challenge and would never replace something that could be fixed.This served him well in his long career as a Golf Course Superintendent. At the time of his passing he was employed at Elkdale Country Club. He was dedicated to providing an excellent course for them because he felt so welcomed and supported there. Chris was a member of the Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America and former member of the Western NY Superintendent’s Association.

In addition to his beloved wife Linda and mother Mary, Chris is survived by his daughter Sarah (Cece Roche) of Colorado, and sons Bradley of Rochester, Scott, Quintin and Ryan of Wellsville. He is also survived by his brother Steven (Caroline) Haggerty of FL, sisters Suzy (PJ) Carroll of IL,and Dana Haggerty of AR, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister M. Nord Haggerty, brother W. Quint Haggerty and infant daughter Scotti Haggerty. Chris was a man of incredible integrity and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Judy Hoberg

Belmont, NY - Judy Hoberg of Belmont, NY and Kingsport, TN, joined her loved ones in heaven as her life here on earth ended, and her eternal life in heaven began on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loved ones and family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on August 21, 1953 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late David and Josephine (Pettinato) Hollister. 

                                                                                                                                                                    Judy was raised in Belmont, NY. She graduated from Belmont Central School, then began a lifelong career in nursing when she obtained her LPN License from B.O.C.E.S. in Belmont, she then obtained her RN from S.U.N.Y Alfred, and later, her Bachelor’s degree from Alfred University. On December 30, 1972 she married Larry Cline, who predeceased her on August 31, 1974. On July 12, 1975 she married Raymond W. Hoberg Jr. who predeceased her on June 7, 2010.  

She is survived by her children; Terri (Steven) Maxwell of Cuba, Darci Hoberg of Belmont, Joseph (Tracy) Hoberg of Angelica, stepson Raymond W. Hoberg III of Lake Charles, LA, and stepdaughter, Karen (Walter) Lauderdale of Carson, CA. grandchildren; Sabrina Marvin-Dougherty of Belmont, Krista (Aaron) Thomas of Reynoldsville, PA, Bryce (Hannah Formanek) Marvin of Curwensville, PA, Ryan Maxwell of Cuba, Christian King, Aubrey and Makenzie Hoberg, of Angelica, Odessa (David) Velez of Cartersville, GA, Jason Hoberg of Galveston, TX, Erik Hoberg of Mentor On The Lake, OH, great grandchildren; Alexia Dougherty, Lakelynn Thomas, and Addilynn Thomas, and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of Sadie Rose Marvin, a half sister, Geraldine Schillinger of Bradford, PA, sisters Margie Dunford of Belmont, Donna Hollister of Greenville, SC, Nancy Ruhl of Wellsville, and Kathy (Dan) Allen of West Clarksville, a sister in law Nancy (Jim) Jarmuz, a brother in law, Dean (Cherry) Perry, sisters in Law, Linda Smith, Lucille (Tim) Callaghan, brother in law, Lynn Cline, sisters in Law, Lois (Ricky) Whitney, Luanne Cline, a former son-in-law, David (Kim) Marvin, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents, by her husbands, Larrry and Ray, her sisters, Debbie Hollister, and Vicki Hollister-Perry, her brother, David Hollister Jr., her stepson Timothy Hoberg and her in-laws, Raymond and Stella Hoberg, and Wayne and Marge Cline.

Upon her retirement in 2011, she moved to Kingsport, TN, she returned to Belmont, New York.

in July 2018. She volunteered for many organizations throughout the years, she was a nurse for Camp Daydreams/NaCOAra for over 28 years, volunteering her time, talents and many skills to help children enjoy a week away from home, and to see what nature had to offer. She loved spending time with her family, and she shared her love of camping, baking, traveling, and scrap booking. She especially enjoyed camping at Breezy Point Campground, with her dear friend, Charlene Stiles every summer, escaping the Tennessee heat! She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, for over 30 years in Northeastern TN, and Western NY, serving on many mission relief trips after natural disasters struck. She graciously served the Lord on several committees at both the United Methodist Church of Belmont, and Cassidy United Methodist Church in Kingsport, TN where she was an active member until her illness overcame her. She was a member of the Belmont American Legion Auxiliary, Post 808, and a former member of Amity Rescue Squad, as well as several other organizations. She was a true child of God with a servant's heart, helping those in need whenever she was able to, she never met a stranger, and no one ever went away hungry. In her final act of selfless giving, she donated her body to the University of Buffalo for research, and her eyes to the Eye Bank For Sight. Shirley A. Benjamin

Belmont, NY - Shirley A. Benjamin, 81, of 4822 Back River Road passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018, at Olean General Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born December 12, 1936 in Belmont the daughter of the late Gerald and Lillian (Clair) Clark. On July 9, 1955 in Belmont, she married Richard Benjamin who survives.

Shirley was a 1955 graduate of Belmont Central School, and a 1973 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse at Cuba Memorial Hospital for many years, and later was employed as a bus driver at Genesee Valley Central School from 1993 to 1999. She was also very active with “Dick's Bees” her husband's honey business, which he founded in 1975.

Surviving in addition to her husband is one son, James (Kim) Benjamin of Baker, Florida, two daughters, Vicki (Jeff) Baker of Friendship, and Debra Wilmot of Union Springs, NY 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother, Norman Clark of Flower Mound, Texas, a sisters-in-law, Genevieve Clark of Friendship, and as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a two brothers, Raymond and Edward Clark, a son-in-law, Anthony Wilmot, and a sister-in-law, Gloria Clark

Marjorie A. Hand

Penn Yan, NY - Marjorie A. Hand, age 89, formerly of Wellsville passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018, at the Homestead in Penn Yan. She was born on February 1, 1929 in Batavia to Elmer H. and Myrtle J. Baehre Hunt. She was married to James Hand who predeceased her.

Marjorie was a long time resident of Pleasant Street and later the Wellsville Manor Hills on the Bolivar Road. She was a graduate of Wellsville High School who had worked for Dresser Rand, Air Preheater, and for a time she lived and worked in Arizona. Marjorie was also a self employed florist.  She was raised in the Trinity Lutheran Church and later she attended the former Christian Temple Church. Marjorie was a member of the the American Legion Post #702 Auxiliary of Wellsville who loved playing cards, including bridge, and enjoyed painting at Manor Hills.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Susan D. Hand of Cornville, Arizona, and Nancy (Danny)  Brooks of Penn Yan; a daughter in law, Deb Owen of Wellsville; 4 grandchildren, Tjay (Ruthann)  Mott, Brent Perkins, Kristen (Mark)  Bechara, and Mark Owen; 3 great grand children, Gabrielle, Elias, and Isabella; a brother, Allen Hunt of Wellsville; a sister in law Linda Boundy as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her long time companion, Robert “Bob” Owen, her 2 sons, Ronald and Mark Hand; 2 brothers, Jackie and Raymond Hunt; a sister, June Enos.

Martha “Marty” K. Tezak

Wellsville, NY - Martha “Marty” K. Tezak, 75, of 450 N. Main St, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Thursday, 18 October 2018 at her home.  She was born in Baltimore, MD, on 11 August 1943 to Martha and James Leyko.  She is a graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame HS in 1961 and from Villa Julie Junior College in Baltimore in 1964.  She was employed by the Miles & Stockbridge law firm in Baltimore, MD, Chandler & Company investments in Beverly Hills, CA, and served as the Executive Secretary of the Constitution Island Assn at West Point. In addition to her years at Marine Midland Bank and USP&IRA (the military investment company (now known as First Command) in Highland Falls, NY she was Assistant Editor for the Association of Graduates’ (West Point) alumni magazine, Assembly.  She was secretary for the Mohawk Valley Business Women’s Network in Utica, NY.

Her main athletics were annual bowling leagues where her high game and series were 233 and 616, and golfing which included Pinehurst, Pebble Beach and St Andrews in Scotland as well as the annual Member-Guest Tournaments with her daughter Chris sponsored by the Ladies Golf Association of the Wellsville Country Club. She enjoyed skiing at Killington, Lake Placid, Copper Mountain and Breckenridge.  She was also an avid reader and social bridge player.

Marty was Publicity Chairperson for the Monday Club, a women’s interest group, and Treasurer for Hemlock Twig of Jones Memorial Hospital. She was a member of a quilting group affectionately known as the Old Crows, was involved with the Immaculate Conception Church Alter Guild and as the Social Chairperson for the Wellsville Country Club.  At West Point she was a member of the Officers’ Wives Club, worked the Blood Bank and received the Red Cross Volunteer Award.

She traveled all over the United States accompanying her husband to various educational conferences.

She created, owned and operated her own company, MLT Monogramming & Gifts at West Point, Utica and Wellsville NY.  That was her pride and joy for 28 years.  She is survived by her husband Ed, of 52 years, her daughter Christine (Chuck Quinley) and her son Scott (Anne). She was the devoted grandmother of Michael.

Visitation will take place at the J.W. Embser & Sons Funeral Home between 2 and 4 PM and 7 and 9 PM on Thursday, October 25, 2018.  Marty was a devout practicing catholic who took her religion seriously.  Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 AM Friday, October 26, 2018 in Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.

Donald W. Mong

Scio, NY - Donald W. Mong, 70, of 2754 County Road 9, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at home. He was born on June 9, 1948 in Wellsville the son of Jay D. and Mabel S. (Wheaton) Mong. On July 3, 1971 in Salamanca he married Judith Kielaszek who survives.

Don was a 1966 graduate of Wellsville High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He began his career with Worthington Corporation in Wellsville, and for 38 years he was employed by Alstom Air Preheater Company in Wellsville, retiring in 2010. He was a former member of the Scio Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Ducks Unlimited, and Genesis Bible Church in Scio.   

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Theron (Jennifer) Mong of Williamsville, a daughter, Adrianne (Jeff) Donaldson of Plano, TX, three grandchildren, Helena and Gavin Mong, and Savannah Donaldson, his mother, Mabel Mong of Wellsville, a brother, Robert (Nancy) Mong of Epping, NH, a sister, Brenda Szabo of Wellsville, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father.

Geraldine Betty Bogle

Wellsville, NY - Geraldine Betty Bogle, 84, of 3983 Fords Brook Road South Branch passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born October 16, 1934 in the Town of Willing, the daughter of the late Rev. William A. and Rev. Ruth L. (Morland) Brownell. On March 17, 1963 in West Bingham, Pennsylvania she married Thomas C. Bogle Sr. who survives.

“Gerry” was raised on Fords Brook Road South Branch and attended Wellsville High School. She was employed by ACES at the Wellsville Campus of Alfred State College, and later at the Central Dinning Hall on the Alfred Campus. She retired in 1997. She was a devoted Christian, and a caring, and loving mother and wife. She formerly attended the Riverside Assemble of God, and the Wellsville Full Gospel Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, Gary (Mary) Dunham of Howard, a daughter, Roxanne Maxcy of Andover, three granddaughters, one grandson, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a son Thomas C. Bogle Jr. on April 23, 1998, two brothers, Robert and William Brownell, and one sister, Helen Green.

Howard E. Lamphier

Wellsville, NY - Howard E. Lamphier, 85, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was born in Wellsville, the son of the late Elmer and Eva (Chandler) Lamphier.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Lamphier, a daughter, Marcia Lamphier (Marshall Hammond), a sister Freida Ballerstein, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by a son, Gene Lamphier.

At Howard's request, a private celebration of his life is being planned for a later date. 

Marian E. (Brandes) Graves

Daytona Beach, Florida - Marian E. (Brandes) Graves, 90, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Carlton Shores Nursing Home in Daytona Beach, Florida. 

She was born on March 11, 1928, the daughter of Melvin and Marie (Pohl) Brandes, who had resided on Beach Hill in the Town of Willing. On July 28, 1946 she married Richard Graves who predeceased her on July 1, 2018.

Marian was a 1946 graduate of Wellsville High School, and worked throughout her life, retiring at the age of 82.   

She is survived by a son, Ronald (Vicki) Graves of Oregon, and a daughter, Linda Graves of Florida, three grandchildren,Sarah Graves of Oregon, Alicia (Ben) Port of Oregon, and Dr. Jason (Anna) Graves of England, five great grandchildren, Shelby, Carter, and Olly Port of Oregon, and Zofia, and Justav Graves of England, four sisters, Marette Pace of California, Myrtle (Louie) Smith of Wellsville, Marcella Graves of Scio, and Margaret (Carl) Cross of Wellsville, one brother, Melvin (June) Brandes of Wellsville, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her husband of 71 years, by a son, Stephen, and an infant daughter, Susan.

Virginia Foster Bassett

Alfred, NY - Virginia Foster Bassett, 101, passed away peacefully at Jones Memorial Hospital on September 23, 2018 after a brief illness. 

Virginia resided at Manor Hills Assisted Living Facility in Wellsville, NY for the past three years. Previously, she made her home on West University Street in Alfred, NY for eighty-three years, having lived on both sides of the same street from her teenage years into her late nineties.  

Born on March 14, 1917 in Shongo, NY to Archie and Fannie Clark Foster, Virginia was one of eight children. On April 4, 1946, she married Leon Bassett who predeceased her in 1973. 

Virginia met her husband while working as a telephone operator in her early career. She was later employed by Alfred University College of Ceramics and by Olive Watson, founder of Honey Pot Candy in Alfred.  Virginia purchased the business and moved the operation to 41 West University Street in Alfred in 1977. She created hand-dipped confections with the aid of her sister, Francelia McGraw. Honey Pot Chocolates remains a thriving business under the direction of Connie McGraw, Virginia's niece. 

Virginia was very community minded and enjoyed fellowship at the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Alfred. She was a loyal member of the Republican Party in Allegany County.  Both local and national causes benefited from Virginia's generous contributions of time and funds. Virginia was an avid reader, a fan of local history, and baked the only truly great molasses cookies that ever existed. 

Her parents, her siblings, William Foster, Dorotha Harris, Archie Edward Foster, Fannie McGill, Francelia McGraw, Loie Odell, Eugene Foster, their spouses, and a nephew, Dale Foster, all predeceased her. 

Virginia is survived by twelve nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews and their offspring. Several cousins also survive. 

Strong-willed and incredibly resilient, Virginia will be missed for her generosity, sharp wit and endless resolve.  

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Seventh Day Baptist Church on Church St. in Alfred, NY.  Rev. Christian Mattison will officiate.  Burial will be in Alfred Rural Cemetery.

Raymond H. Wetherby

Belmont, NY - Raymond H. Wetherby, 88, of 6005 Feathers Creek Road passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on September 25, 1929 in Ischua, the son of Charles and Phoebe (Clayson) Wetherby. On November 8, 1985 in Frewsburg he married Delores G. Jordan who survives.

Raymond was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was employed by the former I.W. Miller & Son of Olean as a truck driver for 19 years, and more recently by Abbott Welding Supply Inc. as a driver and pumper; retiring on March 31, 1993. 

Surviving in addition to his wife Delores, are three sons, Dayrl “Buz” Wetherby of Hinsdale, Gary “Tim” Wetherby, and Randy Wetherby both of Ischua, three daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Wetherby of Ischua, Lisa K. Perry of Linestone, and Theresa R. Benjamin of Virginia, three step daughters, Virginia Cox of Little Genesee, Penny A. Shipman, and Cindy L. Jordan both of Belmont, three stepsons, Ricky D. Jordan, Gary L. Jordan, and Teddy E. Jordan all of Belmont, several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, one sister, Geraldine Baham of Gainsville, FL, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Kendall N. Wetherby, two brothers, Kendall Wetherby, and Harold “Dean” Wetherby, and two sisters, Fannie Morgan, and Gwen Germain.

Jean E. Tracy

Belmont, NY - Jean E. Tracy, 92, of 36½ Schuyler Street passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. She was born on March 15, 1926 in Warsaw the daughter of the late Ralph and Ethel (Kelly) Halstead. On August 18, 1945, on her parents lawn, she married Roger W. Tracy who predeceased her on February 21, 1990.

Jean graduated from Warsaw Central School, and went to Rochester, where she became a “Bomb Girl” making bombs for the war effort. It was there she met her future husband Roger. She later was employed as a cafeteria monitor at Belmont Central School, and eventually became the general manager of the cafeteria. She enjoyed being around all the school children, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping with her family, cooking, dancing, and loved to entertain for family gatherings. Of course her greatest joy was her family, and she was always there whenever they needed her.

Surviving are two children, Pamela (Bradley) Cooper of Belmont, and Steven (Susan) Tracy of Aberdeen, NC, 10 grandchildren, Jason (Laura) Cooper of Burlington, VT, Norai (Mark) Pisano of West Henrietta, Gwendolyn Cooper of Belmont, Alycia Tracy of Olean, Amanda (Ian) Burt of Clayton, Abagail (Josh) Grump of Riviera Beach, FL, Kristina (Ken) Male of Caneadea, Michael (Julia) Deming of Aberdeen, NC, Bryan (Beth) Deming of Cuba, and Casey Deming of Queen Creek, AZ, 14 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her loving companion, Howard Nelson of Smethport, PA. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a sister, Marie Walker, two nieces, and one nephew.

Belmont, NY - Benson W. “Bill” Heller, 68, of 1 Park Place passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Hart Comfort House in Wellsville following a brief illness. He was born on February 9, 1950 in North Hornell the son of the late Benson M. and Feroll E. “Fay” (Bowen) Heller.

Bill was a graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School, and attended Alfred State College. He was employed at the Central Dining Hall at Alfred State College and later by ACES at Alfred for 30 years. He was a long time resident of Almond, and moved to Belmont in 2004. Bill was always willing to help a friend in need. He loved music of all kinds, and gave generously to many organizations. He will be missed by his family and many friends, and will be remembered for his laugh, and his nickname, “Rockin Bill”.

He is survived by two sisters, Georgia A. (Arthur) Roberts Sr. of Avoca, and Rosemarie B. Heller of Belmont, two nephews, Arthur Lee (Kelly) Roberts Jr., and Eric A.(Tina) Roberts, five great nephews, two great-great nephews, and one great-great niece. He was predeceased in addition to his parents, by a niece, Megan K. Sciotti.

Barbara L. Roeske

Wellsville, NY - Barbara L. Roeske, 76, of 170 Stevens Street passed away at home on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 following a long illness. She was born on January 20, 1942 in Oswayo, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorris (Halladay) Burrows. On August 18, 1973 in Wellsville she married Frances “Ed” Roeske who predeceased her on August 3, 2012.

Barbara was raised in the Wellsville area and was first employed at the age of 16 by Galten Productions in Pennsylvania and later for Jan and Bev's Home Care, Inc. in Wellsville for 25 years, retiring in 2004.  She was a caring, loving, devoted, and beautiful wife and mother. 

She is survived by seven children, Pamela Cook, and her companion, Charlie Cooper of Poughkeepsie, Terry Dickerson and his companion, Tina Bruto of Bolivar, and Tracy Gerken of Esparto, CA, Cassie (Bill) Stodart of Gettysburg, PA, Matt Burkett of Ulysses, PA, Lance Roeske of Montanna, and Amy Nelson of Colorado, 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan, James, Christopher, Amber, Cassandra, Melanie, Lance, Sawyer, Leif, Deirdre, and Brendan, nine great-grandchildren, Adrionna, Joey, Jimmy, Piper, Sammy, Callan, Ethan, Isabella, and Easton, five sisters, Arlene (Judd) Carlin, April Dailey, Judy (Neil) Storm,  Diane Beardsley, Cindy Burrows, and one brother, Dennis (Betty) Burrows, her beloved canine companion, Molly, and several nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Maria Harris. She was predeceased in addition to her husband and parents, by a son, Doug Dickerson, a grandson, Jeff Cook, and a stepdaughter, Jenifer Grant, as well as several brothers and sisters.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, September 24, 2018 from  2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and Tuesday, September 25, from 12 noon to 1:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. The funeral will follow visitation on Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with Kathie Timpano presiding. Burial will be in Hallsport Union Cemetery. George J. DeBarbieri

Wellsville, NY - George J. DeBarbieri, 91, of 3432 North Drive passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 13, 1927 in Wellsville the son of the late George J. and Helen (Fox) DeBarbieri Sr. On May 30, 1953 in Wellsville he married Jeanette Fanton who survives.

George attended Wellsville High School, and served with the Merchant Marines. He was first employed at the Sinclair Refinery, and the DeBarbieri Sporting Goods Store in Wellsville. He was later employed by Worthington Corporation in Wellsville for 37 years; retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, he enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee at McDonald's, and was an avid golfer. 

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Michael (Susan) DeBarbieri of Portville, a daughter, Laurie A. DeBarbieri of Naples, Florida,  three grandchildren,  Amy (Michael) Pope, Joseph (Kate) DeBarbieri, and John DeBarbieri, five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Ellie, and Charlotte Pope, and Samuel and Maxwell DeBarbieri, one sister, Marguerite D. Graves of Pittsford, a sister-in-law, Marilyn Lampman of Tulsa, OK, as well as several several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by a sister, Letitia Parron, two brothers, Louis, and Richard DeBarbieri, and two brothers-in-law, Harry Graves, and George Lampman.

Bonnie J. Neal

Wellsville, NY - Bonnie J. Neal, age 86, of Rauber Street passed away at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. She was born on October 6, 1931 in Oil City, Pennsylvania to Charles and Frieda Wheeling Blackman. On October 11, 1952 in Wellsville she married Richard “Dick” Neal who predeceased her on August 15, 2008.

Bonnie was a long time resident of Wellsville who attended Wellsville Central Schools. She had worked as a waitress for over 60 years at the Penn Valley, Wellsville Country Club , and for the Beef Haus. She also worked for Wellsville Central School for 30 plus years in the Middle School and Elementary School cafeterias retiring at the age of 84 in 2016. Bonnie also helped her husband in operating Neal's Photography in Wellsville. For Bonnie family came first. She enjoyed outings with her girl friends, coffee hour with her niece Kandy, traveling, Yankees Baseball, walking, dancing, and roller skating. She had been a volunteer for Red Cross including yearly trips to the Bath VA. Hospital, a volunteer for Jones Memorial Hospital and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wellsville.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Keegan of Rodman; 3 sons, Charles (Suzanne Spicer)  Neal of Wellsville, Douglas Neal of Wellsville, and Thomas (Debbie Ireland)  Neal of Fort Ann; 7 grand children, Holli (Ben)  Polselli, Kristi (Alvin Leith)  Neal, Craig (Cursti)  Neal, Spencer Neal, Connor Neal, Kerri Keegan, and Mitchell Keegan; 3 great grandchildren, Nora, Rowan, and Logen; a sister, Mildred (Morris)  Lowrey of Pleasanton, CA.; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Richard, a son in law, Chip Keegan; 3 sisters, Anna Burchfield, Charlotte Ennis, and Dixie Duston.

Charles H. Smith

Belmont, NY - Charles H. Smith, 78, of 9 Willard Street passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the Highland Park Healthcare Center in Wellsville, NY following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  He was born May 19, 1940 in Hobart, NY the son of  Eugene and Margaret (Rampe) Smith.

“Charlie” graduated from South Kortright Central High School in 1958.  He received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Education from Oneonta State College in 1962, and a Master of Science Degree from Albany State College. He later received his administration degree from Albany State College.

He started his teaching career at Andes Central School in 1962 and after many years of teaching and coaching he became the principal there; a position he held until 1985.  He then moved to Belmont, New York where he was the Business Manager for Belmont Central School and later became the Superintendent of Schools. He retired in 1997 when the Angelica and Belmont schools merged.  He was in education for 35 years as a coach, teacher, principal and administrator.

Charlie was the Kortright town supervisor for several years and was the secretary of the Delaware County Republican committee.  He was very proud to have attended the inauguration of Ronald Reagan in both 1980 and 1984. In 2005, he was inducted into the Delaware County League Hall of Fame. Charlie served as the President of the Delaware County League from 1979-1985. While he lived in Delaware County, he was a member of the Bloomville Grange and the  Andes Grange, and received a 60 year pin from the Cuba Grange.

He received many awards and was recognized for his service to his communities. After his retirement, he volunteered with the Allegany County Office for  the Aging Tax program; something that he enjoyed very much. In 2000, he received  the AARP Tax Counselor of the Year. He attended  the Scio United Methodist Church, and was an active member of the Belmont Rotary Club, and received the Rotary Community Service Award, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1999 and 2004. He was actively involved in the Allegany County Republican Committee and many other local, town and village political groups. 

Charlie was inducted into the Allegany County Hall of Fame in 2005.  He was also inducted into the Genesee Valley Hall of Fame in 2008. While in Belmont, he served on the Section V Executive Committee from 1988-1996. He was the treasurer of the Belmont Youth Board from 1985-2005. In 2010 he was awarded the Ronald Reagan Award. In 2013 he was the Belmont Betterment’s Association Outstanding Citizen of the year.  He was also recognized for having 15 years of service with the Allegany County Umpires Association.

His passion for his favorite sports teams; the Cleveland Browns, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers, was never something that he hid and he was a proud fan for many years of all three teams. He avidly followed his three sons through their high school and college basketball careers.

“Charlie” is survived by his wife Maureen (Egan) Smith of Belmont; a daughter Colleen (Jeff) Koprevich of Owego; three sons, Gene of Rochester; Len (Michele) of Elmira; and Sean (Erin) of Rochester, four grandchildren whom he adored, and loved to have around, Kyle Koprevich, Connor, Brenna, and Anya Smith. He is also survived by a cousin, Joyce (Bert) Roberts of Amherst, New York.

Donna M. Abbott

Belmont, NY - Donna M. Abbott, age 89, formerly of Belmont, New York entered heaven’s gates on Thursday September 6, 2018 at Elderwood @ Hornell surrounded by her family.

Donna was born on July 26, 1929 at her family home in Belvidere/ Angelica, New York to Henry D. Baker and Mae M. (Robbins) Baker. She attended and graduated the Belmont Central School.  On December 16, 1950 at The Presbyterian Church in Belmont, Donna married the love of her life, Robert A. Abbott, who predeceased her on January 7, 2003.

Together Mr. and Mrs. Abbott raised three children; Daughter Sharon (Steve) Cartwright, who predeceased her on February 11, 2016; A son, Robert (Susie) Abbott and Daughter, Kim (David) Waters who survive. Besides having six Grandchildren: Michaela, Bobbie Jo, James, Jody, Gabrielle, & Kyle, Mrs. Abbott had eight Great-Grandchild

ren whom she adored. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Donna’s family was her greatest joy.  The love and pride that she had for them was unmistakable. 

She was a longtime resident of Belmont and was active within the community.  Donna was happy to be a member of The United Methodist Church, The Belmont Fireman’s Auxiliary, The Amity Rescue Squad Auxiliary, and The Bowling League. 

Donna worked for some time at Motorola and as a Home Health Aide, but her calling and passion was being a homemaker.  She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She loved her friends, neighbors, and acquaintances.  While living on Greenwich Street Donna was the place that the kids went to for "Fluffer Nutter" sandwiches.  Donna’s front door was the place that neighborhood children loved to hang their May baskets expecting a chase and kiss from her. Mrs. Abbott opened her heart and her home to many. Several people will remember Donna riding her scooter to and from her destinations, and joy riding with friends. 

During her recent years while residing in Hornell, some of Mrs. Abbott’s caregivers became her extended family.  She could always be found somewhere hugging staff, visitors, and friends; Always smiling, always complimenting others, and always giving her best wishes to all that she approached.

Even though spending time with those that she loved was her desire, Donna enjoyed attending church services, bowling, reading, playing cards/games, music and classic movies.

In addition to her Parents, Husband, and Daughter, Donna was predeceased by Brothers, Chester Baker, Leonard Baker, Victor Whitney, Kenneth Whitney, Sister Georgia Lincoln and a Niece

Friends are invited to call on Friday September 14, 2018 from 7pm-9pm and Saturday from 10am-11am.  at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Belmont.  The funeral will be held on Saturday September 15th at 11am.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations be made to the donor’s choice.
