Whitesville, NY - Dorothy F. Carlosh, 96, of 853 Snow Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on October 22, 1921 in Poland, NY, the daughter of the late Fred and Bertha (Hines) Forrest. On June 23, 1946 in Poland she married John Carlosh who predeceased her on April 13, 1999.
Dorothy graduated from Poland Central School in 1939 and Plattsburg State Teachers College in 1943. She and John moved to Whitesville in 1952. Dorothy taught home economics at Whitesville Central School for many years, retiring in 1972. She enjoyed camping, square-dancing, visiting with friends and being an active member of the Whitesville community. She played the organ for the Whitesville United Methodist Church for over 60 years.
Dorothy was a beloved mother, gramma, and great-gramma. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, baking cookies, bread, and sharing stories over a piece of her favorite chocolate or while working on a puzzle.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Nancy Meehan, her son-in-law William Meehan Sr., grandchildren, William (Margeurite) Meehan Jr., Wendy (Shawn) Swain, Joseph (Darleen) Meehan, Cheryl (Daniel) Brimmer, and John (Kristen) Carlosh, great-grandchildren, Forest, Amanda, Thomas, Dillon, Sylvia, and Madeline, step great-grandchildren, Nate and Mackenzie, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents and husband, by a son, John A. Carlosh Jr., a sister, Helen Hampston, and a brother, Robert Forrest.
Friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Whitesville United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow visitation on Saturday at 3:00 pm with Rev. Ruth Reppert presiding. Burial will be in Whitesville Rural Cemetery. Please consider memorial donations to the Whitesville United Methodist Church or the Whitesville Library.
