Belmont, NY - Jeanne E. Howbridge, 95, of 10 McNinch Lane passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville with her daughter at her side. She was born May 12, 1917 in Hammondsport the daughter of the late Monroe and Bertha (Sedgwick) Ray. On December 21, 1946 she married Howard L. "Dave" Howbridge who predeceased her on October 19, 1979.
Jeanne was a graduate of Belmont High School. She was employed as a secretary for many years at the Allegany County Soil and Water Conservation Service, retiring in the 1970's. She was an active member of the Belmont United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, financial secretary for over 50 years and secretary of the Women's Society. She will be remembered for her precise and often witty minutes. She also served as a Trustee for the Belmont Free Library for several years. Jeanne was a loving and caring, daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy R. Howbridge of Belmont, two sisters, Dorothy Ray of Wellsville and Ruth (Joseph) Brown of Sudbury, MA, a sister-in-law, Betty Ray of Horseheads as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her husband, by a brother, S. Bruce Ray.
Friends are invited to her funeral on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Belmont United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Hurd presiding. There will be no prior visitation and burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont.
