Wellsville, NY - M. Lois Elliott of East Genesee Street passed on to her new life surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at home. She was born in Geneva on January16, 1928 to Patrick and Gertrude O'Malley Hennessy. Lois married R. Wayne Elliott at Hempstead Long Island who predeceased her on February 24, 2006 after 54 years of marriage.
Lois graduated from St Francis de Sale High School in Geneva and later from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Elmira. She then served in the US Air Force as a second Lieutenant stationed at Mitchell Air Force Base, Hempstead Long Island. She and her husband lived in Port Allegany Pennsylvania for 20 years before moving to Rochester for 3 years and then to Wellsville for the last 25 years. Lois and Wayne worked together in Elliott's Bakery and Restaurant before she returned to professional nursing. She worked at the Port Allegany Hospital, Charles Cole Hospital, Sena' Kean Manor, Director of Nursing at Lakeshore Nursing Home in Rochester and then finished her nursing career at the Wellsville Manor. Her biggest interest in life was her family and she took great pride in watching them grow and become who they are today. Lois took a great interest in reading and at one time made quilts. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville the American Legion Post 702.
Survivors include: a daughter, Susan (Albert) Meyer; a daughter in law, Kathy Elliott; 3 sons, Mark (Linda) Elliott, Jonathan (Cheryl) Elliott and Gregory (Lori) Elliott; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; long time special and dear friends, Anne Walsh of Geneva and Betty Heffernan of Dayton, OH.
Besides her husband Lois was predeceased by her beloved son David in 2006 as well as her loving mentor Charles Kleinhenz; a sister, Helen Dwyer; 2 brothers, Jack and Alan Hennessy.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 22, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday at 10 am in the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 am in the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Sean DiMaria Celebrant. Burial with full military honors will take place in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the David A. Howe Library or to the SPCA serving Allegany County.
