Belmont, NY - Walter E. "Moose" Brown, 67, of 4 Whitney Avenue passed away at home on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 following a lengthy illness. He was born July 13, 1942 in Wellsville the son of Albert and Joetta (Hoover) Brown.
"Moose" attended Belmont High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1962. He began his career as a tool dresser in the local oil fields and later was an oiler for Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville for many years retiring in 1995. He was the immediate Past Commander of the Herbert De Long Post 808 American Legion in Belmont, an officer in the Belmont Conservation Club and a life member of the Belmont Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by two daughters, Tami Brown of Roseville, CA and Christine Perry of Englewood, CO, six grandchildren, one great grandson, two brothers, Richard (Elaine) Brown of North Dartmouth, MA and Thomas (Linda) Brown of Belmont, two sisters, Janice "Sis" McNinch of Wellsboro, PA and Sandra (James) Cooper of Belmont as well as several nieces & nephews.
Friends are invited to a military memorial service on Sunday, June 6th at 2:00 pm at the Herbert De Long Post 808 American Legion, 27 Schuyler Street in Belmont. There is no prior visitation and memorials are suggested to the American Legion. Arrangements are under the direction of the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc.
