Wilford Allen "Bud" Hulbert

Wellsville, NY - Wilford Allen "Bud" Hulbert, 92, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Jewish Home of Rochester, NY. Mr. Hulbert, a Coudersport, PA native, was the son of Allen and Ada (Seavey) Hulbert. He attended Coudersport PA schools, graduating from Lewisville Vocational High School in 1936. He married the love of his life, Yetta D. Yahn in 1940. He was employed by Brownhill and Kramer, Inc. of Coudersport prior to the war. He was a WW-II Veteran, serving as a Top-Turret Gunner in a B-24 Bomber with the 15th U.S. Army Air Force in the European Theatre of Operation; where he flew 50 combat missions. Mr. Hulbert holds five Battle Stars for Air Combat, three Oak Leaf Clusters and a Presidential Unit Citation.

"Bud" and Yetta moved from Coudersport PA to Wellsville, NY in 1956 and owned and operated Wellsville's Western Auto Store for many years. In addition, Bud enjoyed 25 years of driving school bus for Wellsville Central Schools and delivering "Meals on Wheels" for several years. After retirement, he and Yetta embraced being "snow-birds"; travelling to Yuma, AZ and back each year, where they were members of a senior's motorcycle club known as the "Over the Hill Gang". Mr. Hulbert was a past member of the Coudersport Odd Fellows, Coudersport Eulalia Lodge #342, Coudersport Consistory, American Legion and the Wellsville First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Hulbert was predeceased by his wife, Yetta, a son, Thomas Erwin Hulbert and daughter-in-law, Marelie Widniekiewicz Hulbert. He is survived by two sons, Richard Hulbert of Virginia Beach and George (Edie) Hulbert of Rochester, one daughter, Delia (Jeff) Rhodes of Rochester, six grandchildren Sonja (Chuck) Loss, Richard A. Hulbert, Matthew (Anna) Rhodes and Elizabeth Rhodes, Eric Sauers and Renee (Brian) Lindberg, six great grandchildren, Courtney and Sylvia Conner, Blake Hulbert, Ethan, Evelyn and Elijah Rhodes and one great-great grandson, Joshua Allen Mc Andrews.

Lena D. Brooks

Wellsville, NY - Lena D. Brooks, age 94, formerly of Belmont, NY, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor, Wellsville, NY.

Mrs. Brooks was born on October 26, 1916 to Roland J. & Mary Ruby (McEntee) Bigelow. Married August 4, 1937, at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Belmont, NY to Paul A. Brooks.

Mrs. Brooks graduated from Belmont High School. After many years of being a mother and homemaker, she graduated from cosmetology school in Olean, NY. She worked as a beautician on Schuyler Street, Belmont, before opening a salon in her home on Willard Street, which she operated for many years. Mrs. Brooks was an active member of St. Philips Episcopal Church throughout her life serving on many committees. She and her husband enjoyed playing bridge and in their earlier years were known to drive many miles to attend dances and dance contests. She was a devoted and much loved grandmother.

She is survived by three grandchildren Drew (Tracy) Brooks of Canandaigua, NY, Darcie (David) Hendrix of North Grafton, MA, Darren (Margaret) Brooks of Fairport, NY; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Hendrix, Trevor Hendrix, Eleanor Brooks, Zachary Brooks, Victoria Brooks, Ethan Paul Brooks, and Corinna Brooks; two sisters, Pauline (Ronald) Miller of Belmont, and Thelma Pierson of Avon Park, FL.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Paul A. Brooks, her son Alvin C. Brooks, three sisters, Bernice Benjamin, Evelyn Sizer, Josephine Seely, and her brother John C. Bigelow.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 2 PM in the St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Belmont. The Rev. Cole Gruberth will officiate with Burial in the Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont.

Arthur Aldo Moscardini

Wellsville, NY - Arthur Aldo Moscardini passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2010, at the Highland Health Care Center. He was born on March 10, 1915 in Meredith, NH. To Adelmo and Rosa Lugliani Moscardini. On November 21, 1940 in Genesee, PA. he married Hyla Hurd who predeceased him on November 4, 1992.

Art was a long time resident of East Dyke Street in Wellsville. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1937 and moved to Wellsville to work for the former Moore Steam Turbine as a mechanical engineer. Later, Art went to work for Air Preheater and retired from there in the early 1970s after many years of service. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, the oldest member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge, a member of the former Apollo Club, the Air Preheater Survivors Club, The Thelma Rogers Genealogical and Historical Society and he volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center. Art was an avid gardener who enjoyed hunting, skiing, ice skating and bowling.

Survivors include: a daughter, Gayle (John) Childs of Amity Lake; a son Robert (Francine) Moscardini of Arizona; 4 grandchildren, Maresa, Michael, Jason and Heather; 4 great grandchildren, Haley, Zachary, Jacob and Kaler; 7 nieces and nephews and a long time special friend Rita Taylor of Wellsville.

He was predeceased by a brother Leo Moscardini and a sister Doris Moscardini.

Homer J. Cline

Belmont, NY - Homer J. Cline of State Route 244 passed away on Friday, December 24, 2010, at the Highland Health Care Center in Wellsville after a long and courageous battle with both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. He was born on January 4, 1933 in the Town of Wirt to Emmitt and Gladys Ward Cline. In Belmont on July 22, 1955 he married Barbara Shelley who survives.

Homer left Belmont High School to join the US Army in 1953 and served until 1955. He returned to Belmont and for many years he was a welder for Acme Electric. Homer later worked for the Town of Amity from where he retired in 1994 after 23 years of service and was well known as the Town of Amity Dog Control Officer. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. Homer will be best remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving besides his wife: a son Darryl (Lauri) Cline of Blackcreek; 2 daughters, Delnore (Michael) Case of Scio and Dawn (Ray Palmer) Hebblethwaite of Belmont; 7 grandchildren, Jill and Eric Case, Cara and Adam Hebblethwaite, Arieanna Palmer, Keith and Kevin Cline; a brother, Oliver (Doris) Cline of Belmont; 2 sisters, Lucile Bliven of Belmont and Bethel (Lloyd) McKee of Salunga, PA. as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Norman and Keith Cline and a son in law Chip Hebblethwaite.

Marlene (Wightman) Bledsoe

Wellsville, NY - Surrounded by her loving family, Marlene (Wightman) Bledsoe, 58, Wellsville, passed away, December 22, 2010, after a brave battle with uterine cancer.

Marlene was born February 3, 1952, in Wellsville, daughter of the late Walter Wightman and surviving Adelaide (McClure) Wightman. She was a 1970 graduate of Wellsville Central High School and a 1973 graduate of Alfred State College.

On April 1, 1972 she was married to Carlton L. Bledsoe, in Wellsville. In addition to raising two beautiful daughters, she worked as a floral designer at Tracie's Flower Shop before opening her own business, The Flower Garden Gift Shop, in 1991.

Marlene was a member of First Trinity Lutheran Church in Wellsville, where she was involved in the altar guild and many other church activities. She was a member of the Wellsville Music Boosters, becoming a surrogate "Mom" to many marching band members. Marlene was active in the Wellsville High School Alumni Association and Wellsville Lioness Club, holding many offices. While her daughters were young, she acted as a Girl Scout leader and was the Director of the area Girl Scout Camp for many years. Marlene had many loves, including spending time with family, gardening, knitting, quilting and bird watching.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by: her two daughters Amanda Bledsoe, Wellsville, and Tara (Kyle Bittinger) Bledsoe, Philadelphia, PA; two granddaughters, Lauren Bledsoe and Nora Bledsoe Bittinger; a sister, Nancy (Jim) Thomas; a brother, Mark Wightman; an aunt, Mae Thompson; and many brothers and sisters in-law, and nieces and nephews.

Clarence H. "Clancy" Benz

Wellsville, NY - Clarence H. "Clancy" Benz, born Feb. 18, 1930, in Orchard Park, son of Edward and Emma (Thiel) Benz, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010.

A 1947 graduate of Orchard Park High School, he served in the U. S. Army from 1953-1955, which included time in Japan in the Signal Corps. He worked for Bell Telephone Company starting in 1955 until his retirement from Verizon in 1992.

He was married on May 4, 1968 to his beloved wife Mary (Walsh), who survives. He is also survived by four sons, William (Andrea) Benz of Buffalo; Joseph (Roxanne) Benz of Durham, NC; Robert (Kimberly) Benz of Corning and Martin (Cristin) Benz of Chaffee, two brothers, Howard Benz of Hamburg; Gerald (Margaret) Benz of Lancaster; three, sisters Evelyn Benz of Williamsville; Dorothy (Bernard) Perl of Varysburg and Alice (Richard) Graffeo of West Seneca; sisters-in-law Alice Benz of Hamburg; Shirley Benz of Hamburg; Patricia Walsh of Tucson, Az.; Jane Walsh of Wellsville. Grandchildren Haley, Gianna, Lilian, Terrence, Nathan, Emma Benz and Thomas Rogers as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

He was predeceased by brothers Raymond of Orchard Park; Lee of Hamburg; and Norbert of West Seneca; sister-in-law Doris Benz of Hamburg; brothers-in-law James Walsh of Tucson, Az., and Robert Walsh of Wellsville.

Clancy grew up on his family farm and enjoyed farm work throughout his life. He loved the Immaculate Conception Fun Fair and worked at it before, during and after for 30 years, enjoying every minute. He also enjoyed watching high school and grade school athletics. Clancy volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Mercy Associates.

Charles L. "Charlie" Strope Jr.

Belmont, NY - Charles L. "Charlie" Strope Jr., 85, of 4 Erie Street passed away on Thursday, December, 16, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center following a brief illness. He was born February 7, 1925 in Lockwood, NY the son of the late Charles and Helen (Kelley) Strope. On March 3, 1950 in Waverly, NY he married Shirley Morton who survives.

Charlie had been a resident of Belmont for 46 years. He was a 1942 graduate of Van Etten High School and attended Ames College during his military career. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from June of 1943 to April of 1946 aboard the USS Harry Lee APA-10 in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He was employed as a Customer Engineer for IBM in Elmira and Buffalo for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Following retirement, he repaired typewriters for several years at the Allegany County Courthouse.

He was and active member of the American Legion for 64 years, most recently with the Herbert W. Delong Post 808 in Belmont, where he was a Past Commander and had served as the Adjutant for over 20 years. He was the County Commander in 1976 and the Chef De Gare for Allegany County 40-8. He was a member of the VFW in Sayre, PA, Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601 and the Wellsville Elks Lodge # 1495. He was a former member of the Belmont Conservation Club and the Cayuta Hose Company in Waverly, NY until 1963.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Sharon Strope of Canisteo, Pat Whitney of Wellsville, Cubby (Charles III) Strope of Belmont, Ron Strope of Marysville, Ohio and Karen (Larry) Green of Wellsville, 12 grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, three sisters, Barbara Dalton of Penn Yan, Virginia Warner of Elmira and Shirley McGee of Candor, as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Robert and Jack Strope.

Michael L. Patrick

Wellsville, NY - Michael L. Patrick passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born on February 1, 1967 in Wellsville to James and Jean Hanchett Patrick.

Michael, former resident of Andover, graduated from Andover Central High School and had worked for his father at the former Patrick's Collision in Wellsville. Michael, along with his mom, attended many activities at the Manor including bingo and church. It was because of his mother's love and devotion along with the caring staff that he was able to make Wellsville Manor his home for over 20 years.

Survivors include: a brother, Robert Patrick of Dade City, FL.; long time friend and companion to his mother, Clint Bundy of Andover; several cousins including: Sue Thomas of Wellsville, John (Jan) Fleischman of Wellsville and Sharon (Jerry) Falleta of Groton.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Donald Stephen LaForge

Wellsville, NY - Donald Stephen LaForge, a long-time resident of Stannards, NY passed away on Thursday, December 9th 2010, after a brief illness.

Born November 5th, 1926 in Nile, NY, Don was the first born to Fanny May (Rogers) LaForge and John Robert LaForge. On July 4th 1947 he married Gloria Maxson.

Don graduated from Wellsville High School in 1945, and was a proud member of the undefeated Wellsville High School Lions football team in 1943. Don entered the Air Force in January of 1945, serving as a Navigator in

Squadron A-9.

Following WWII, Don returned to Wellsville, working at Sinclair Refining, but soon after went to work in the local automotive business, working at Hancock and Tomlinson, Hackett's Cadillac, Schmidt's and Pfunter's. Don volunteered as Assistant Scout Master for Willing Troop #7 for 10 years, and treasured his time with his scouts. Don served as a long-time councilman for the Town of Willing, as well as deputy supervisor.

In retirement, Don managed the Wellsville Office for the Aging Nutritional Site. A proud member and historian for Morrison B. Hayes American Legion, he was also a coordinator for the Alumni Association for a number of years. Don was also a past president and secretary of the Exchange Club, as well as the Wellsville Rod and Gun Club. He was active with the Thelma Rogers Historical Society, having served as president and vice president. His passion for local history and genealogy delighted us all. Don was also a devoted member of the Stannards Methodist Church.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, brother Victor LaForge, sister Janet Allen, daughter Rebecca Dawn Razey, and in-laws Lou Vossler, Kenneth Maxson, Alice Allen, and James "Bubby" Maxson.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria, daughter Roxie(Fred) Roliczek, sons Robert (Ronna) and Donald Jr. "Tink" (Joanne), and son-in-law Mark Razey. His family includes 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren whom he gave memories of Easter egg hunts, watermelon seed-spitting contests, camping, roasting marshmallows, and mountain pies.

Visiting hours are Monday December 13th from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home. The funeral will be Tuesday December 14th at 11am at the Stannards United Methodist Church. Donations can be made in his honor to the Stannards United Methodist Church.

Mary Neugent

Wellsville, NY - Mary Neugent, a long time resident of O'Connor Street, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on January 3, 1918 in Wellsville to Timothy and Mabel Bowker O'Leary. On November 13, 1947 in Wellsville she married John B. "Jack" Neugent who predeceased her in 2006.

Mary graduated from Wellsville High School and from 1945 until 1948 she worked for Worthington in Wellsville. She was a proud volunteer for the Red Cross during WW II and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Mary loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include: a daughter, Nancy (Gary) Mattison of Wellsville; a son Thomas J. (Cathy) Neugent of Wellsville; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by: 2 brothers, Maynard Ewart and Richard O'Leary.

John C. Dudar

Scio, NY - John C. Dudar, 86, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, December, 4, 2010. He was a self employed lumberman since his discharge from the U. S. Army Air Forces in 1945. He was also an oil producer for 25 years.

John is survived by his wife, Claire, three daughters, Deborah Hill of Conway, NH, Monique Bachelor of Keene, NH and Helen Dudar of Trenton, NJ as well as a niece, Penelope Wendelkin of Texas and a nephew, James Glass of New Jersey.

Joyce L. Larson

Wellsville, NY - Joyce L. Larson, 83, of 133 Hills Street died on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center following a brief illness. She was born September 1, 1927 in Dansville, the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Ferchland) Forsythe. On November 23, 1957 in Jamestown she married Vernon F. Larson who survives.

Joyce was a graduate of Dansville High School; received a BA in English and Drama from Keuka College and her Masters from Alfred University. She taught English, Speech and Dramatics at Wellsville High School for 36 years, retiring in 1990. She directed the first musical in Allegany County; Victor Herbert's "The Red Mill" and directed over 72 plays and musicals during her career. She was a life member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, Past President of the Wellsville Retired Teachers Association, Past President of the Allegany County Retired Teachers Association and Past Historian and Medical Coordinator of the New York State Retired Teachers' Association, Central Western Zone. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and a member of the Andover Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and Clerk of the Session.

Surviving in addition in addition to her husband, are two sons, John F. Larson of Atlanta , GA and Richard C. (Julie) Larson of Raleigh, NC, the apple of her eye, her granddaughter, Anna Larson, a sister, Suzanne (Frank) Leicht of Penfield, a brother, Donald (Carolyn) Forsythe of Penn Valley, CA, as well as several nieces and one nephew.

Edward R. Redding

Bolivar, NY - Edward R. Redding, 51, of 58 ½ Wellsville Street died unexpectedly on Monday, November 29, 2010 at home. He was born February 7, 1959 in North Hornell, the son of the late Earl and Iola (Hepworth) Redding Sr. Ed was a graduate of Franklinville High School. He collected Indian relics and arrowheads and enjoyed camping. He will sadly missed by his neighbors.

He is survived by four brothers, Robert Haskell of Fillmore, Raymond Van Etten of Kill Buck, Dean Redding of Salamanca and Gordon Redding of North Carolina, five sisters, Beverly Van Etten, Hope (Roger) Bachman and Sandy Cornelius, all of Florida, Sally Williams of Texas and Iola Crawford of Albion, as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Earl Redding and Stanley Van Etten and five sisters, Anna Marie Brooks, Geraldine Denning, Brenda Denning, Rosemary Dennis and Mary Louise Van Etten.

Genevieve "Lucille" MacEwan

Belmont, NY - Genevieve "Lucille" MacEwan, loving wife, mother, grand mother and great grand mother, of Noble Street passed away on Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on August 29, 1915 in Ellicottville to Herman and Evelyn Quinlan Salzer. On September 9, 1939 in Bolivar she married William MacEwan who predeceased her on July 17, 1992.

Lucille was a long time resident of Willets Avenue in Belmont. She graduated from Bolivar Central School in 1933 and was the secretary at Murphy and Son in Ellicottville from 1933 to 1939. She later worked along side her husband "Bill" for many years keeping book for their business, "MacEwan Welding" in Belmont. Lucille was an avid bowler and former member of the Tuesday Night Woman's Rollette Bowling League in Belmont. She was an avid card player and crossword puzzle worker. Lucille was a long time member of the St. Mary's Church and its Alter and Rosary Society. Most of all Lucille will be remembered for her loving, caring ways; always there to lend a helping hand wherever needed. Her greatest joy in life was loving and caring for her husband, children, grand children and great grandchildren.

Survivors include: a daughter Mary (John) Plummer of Belmont; a son, Richard (Barbara) MacEwan of Murrell Inlet, SC.: 2 grandsons, Christopher (Lisa) Plummer of Belmont and Scott MacEwan of Charlotte, NC.: 2 granddaughters, Karen (Steve) Melton of Cuba and Julie (Emilo) Zoli of Rochester: 6 great granddaughters, Mychea, Alyssa, Daesha, Annaleece, Ariel and Ashtyn: As well as several nieces and nephews.

Theresa Fretz

Wellsville, NY - Theresa Fretz, 86, of 2414 Stannards Road, formerly of Malvern, PA passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born October 16, 1924 in Glen Lyon, PA. She was married to Alfred W. Fretz who predeceased her in 1999.

Theresa retired from Deluxe Check Printers in Paoli, PA, where she was employed for 25 years. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching game shows and the wildlife in her daughter's backyard.

She is survived by two daughters, Marlene (Stanley) Jackson of Wellsville and Gloria Moyer of Jacksonville, FL, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a brother, Raymond Stevens of Flagstaff, AZ, her very special brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Anna Mae Fretz of Levittown, PA. She was predeceased in addition to her husband, by three brothers and two sisters.

Anne T. Goodridge

Merrimack, NH - Long time resident of Merrimack, Anne T. Goodridge, died on November 15, 2010 at the Merrimack Home Health and Hospice surrounded by her family and friends.

Anne Goodridge was born on January 3, 1934 at her family farm in Kinney, PA to her parents, John and Florence (O'Donnell) Cooney.

Anne attended school in PA. where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. She received a perfect attendance award for having never missed a day in her twelve years of schooling. She later attended business school in Cleveland, Ohio before getting married in to Paul Goodridge in 1956.

In 1967, Anne moved to Merrimack, NH where she raised her ten children. She believed athletics played an important role in youth development and was an original founder of the Merrimack Youth Association, which has served thousands of children since its inception in the late sixties.

Anne was loved for her quick wit and keen sense of humor. She gave herself the nickname of "Fat Grandma" by which she was known by all of her grandchildren who loved her dearly.

Anne was extremely generous and loved to give gifts to her friends and family. Her favorite memories included annual family reunions and celebrating holidays. She especially loved Christmas and its true meaning. Anne also travelled to Europe having been twice to Ireland with her brother and daughters and on two occasions Medjugorje in the former Yugoslavia to pray.

Anne was close to her brothers and had core values of love, loyalty, and family. She is survived by her brother's Richard Cooney and his wife Joanne and Pat Cooney. Anne was an extremely strong woman who profoundly loved her children and grandchildren. Anne's children are Tim and Starr Goodridge; Laurie and Finlay Rothhaus; Theresa and Patrick Dougherty; Mary and Phil Kopp; Bridget and John Burkett; Paula and Patrick Walsh; Patrick and Bobbie Goodridge; Thomas and Cheryl Goodridge; Dennis and Tegan Goodridge; Joe Goodridge and Karen Ray. Grandchildren: John and his wife Amy Goodridge, Chris, Kellie and Brian Goodridge; Erin, Ryan and Sarah "Tweet" Rothhaus; Tavis and Patrick Morello; Joey, Emily, Timmy, Danny and Andy Kopp; Brianne, Katie, John and James Burkett; Colin, Carly and Dillon Walsh; Samantha and Megan Goodridge; Kayla, Emma, Jameson and Molly Goodridge and step grandchildren, Trevor and Paige Prezlock.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers Dan, Tom and Dennis Cooney, and a great grandson, Logan John Burkett-Alexander.

John E. Dunford Sr.

Belmont, NY - John E. Dunford Sr. of Noble Street passed away at home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010.He was born on June 14, 1939 to Irven E. and Esther Mitchell Dunford in Rochester, MN. On September 24, 1960 in Belmont he married Margie Hollister who survives him.

John graduated from Rochester Senior High School in 1957 and joined the US Navy serving until 1961. He was a machinist for Dresser Rand in Wellsville for 36 years and retired in 2001. John was very involved in his community; at the time of death he was the commander of the American Legion Post 808 in Belmont, an active member of the Scio Rod and Gun Club, a former 40 year member of the Belmont Fire Department and a member of the former Belmont Conservation Club. John was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church and had served as trustee for the church. Along with his wife of 50 years John traveled extensively including visiting all 50 states. He loved to hunt, fish, read books and was a member of the NRA.

Surviving besides his wife: a son John (Yame) Dunford Jr. of Powhatan, VA.; a daughter, Sherry (Phil) MacLaughlin of Fillmore; a grandson, that he and Margie raised, Robert John (Tabitha) Bliven; 2 granddaughters, Cassandra (Tim) Jarrell and Samantha (David) VilledaLopez; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Donald Kobi and Gary Kobi; 2 sisters, Carol Michaleson and Madelon Krough; as well as several nieces and nephews.

John M. Barner

Wellsville, NY - John M. Barner of South Main Street; a loving husband and father passed from this life to his long life desire of God's presence on Monday, November 8, 2010. He was born on July 16, 1960 in Ithaca to Richard and Jane Grisamore Barner. On June 30, 1979 John married Suzanne Quant who survives him.

John graduated from Union Springs Central School and was a mason for Casler Masonry in Auburn. He was a member of the Riverside Assembly of God Church where he was serving as an Elder, the Youth Pastor and Drama Team Director. John was also involved with Speed the Light Ministry and was currently finishing the Berean Bible Course to become a pastor. John had the heart of a servant and it was his desire that the whole earth know Jesus as their savior.

Michael R. Yurcic

Wellsville, NY - Michael R. Yurcic, 65, of 157 N. Highland Avenue died on Saturday, November, 6, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester following a brief illness. He was born June 22, 1945 in St. Louis, MO, the son of the late Nicholas and Maxine (McJunkin) Yurcic. On May 5, 2000 he married Sherry Stillman Wade who survives.

Mike was a 1963 graduate of Wellsville High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving with the Military Police during the Vietnam War from 1966-1967. When he returned to the United States he was stationed at Oakland, California and graduated from military school in 1968. He was a volunteer fireman in Wellsville and Willing for 30 years. He was first employed as a police officer for the Wellsville Police Department; he then worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years, retiring in 2001, and has been a general contractor in the Wellsville area for several years. He was a life member of the Morrison Hayes American Legion Post 702 and the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW. He loved the beach on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he and his wife have a second home.

Surviving in addition to his wife are, four children from previous marriages; Eric Yurcic of Wellsville, Michelle Mess of Canaseraga, Jennifer Peeter of Elba and Nicole Heath of Georgia, three step daughters, Heather Beckering of Wellsville, Amy Bliss of Belmont and Cathy Buckley of Andover, several grandchildren, one great grandchild, one step grandchild on the way and his father and mother in law, Frank and Rosemary Davis of Wellsville.

William E. "Bill" Marsh

Wellsville, NY - William E. "Bill" Marsh, 76, of 4192A Bolivar Road died on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center with his family at his side. He was born March 31, 1934 in Wellsville, the son of the late Burton and Norma (Langdon) Marsh. On May 19, 1962 in Wellsville he married the former, Joan Bannister until the marriage ended in 1979.

Bill was a graduate of Wellsville High School, attended Penn State University and was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was formerly employed at Hamilton's Shoe Store in Wellsville and Worthington Corporation in Wellsville, where he served as the Computer Systems Supervisor. After moving to Chuluota, Florida, to care for his parents he was employed by Publix Food Corporation for 11 years; retiring as a manager in 2008. He loved animals, especially his dog, "Tessie", camping trips with his family and adored his grandchildren. He enjoyed beer steins and wolf collectables.

He is survived by a son, Jeffrey (Sheri) Marsh of Wellsville, a daughter, Kathleen (Holgar) Kurschner of Wellsville, two grandchildren, Amber Marsh and Jeffrey Crowner, a brother, Jon "Mike" (Lynda) Marsh of Loganville, GA, a sister, Nancy (Kenneth) Pressley of Oak Hill, FL, a loving friend, Joan Marsh Hand of Wellsville as well as several nieces & nephews. Eleanor Kruger Cott

Wellsville, NY - Eleanor Kruger Cott, 82, of the Petrolia Road died unexpectedly on Friday, November 5, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, following a brief illness. She was born March 21, 1928 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Henry and Amelia (Dornow) Kruger. On February 20, 1965 in Wellsville she married J. Bernard Cott who predeceased her on November 6, 1997.

Eleanor was a 1946 graduate of Wellsville High School; where she was on the staff and did all the art work for the first issue of the new yearbook “Sonnontouan”. She was formerly employed as a draftsman and computer programmer for C. E. Air Preheater Company in Wellsville from 1946 until her retirement in 1984. Several organizations enjoyed her artistic talents and the donation of her time; including the Wellsville Art Association, Allegany Art Association, the Garden Club, the Thelma Roger Genealogical and Historical Society and the Jones Memorial Hospital; Hemlock Twig. She was a Hospice volunteer, served on the David A. Howe Public Library; Restoration Committee and was a member of the First Trinity Lutheran Church; where she was active in the choir, Ladies Aid, Dorcas Guild as well as several other committees.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Thelma Cott of Florida, a niece, Karen Cott Evans in Jacksonville, FL and two nephews James E. Cott in Gainesville, FL and David R. Cott in Jacksonvillle, FL. as well as several cousins, including, Lois Johnston of Canandaigua, Roy Krueger of Raleigh, NC, Harold Krueger of Rockford, IL, Robert “Kip” Krueger of Orchard Park, Glen W. Kruger and Kristen A. Kruger both of Wellsville. She was predeceased in addition to her parents and husband, by a sister, Alice Kruger on May 17, 1982.

Wellsville, NY - Janice Kay Clark, 48, of 4192A Bolivar Road died on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 29, 1962 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Edward and Corabell (Freelove) Clark.

Janice attended Allentown, Wellsville and Belmont Central Schools. She was employed by Piece Work Industries in Wellsville, through Allegany ARC and was a long time resident of the Nobles IRA in Belmont. She enjoyed working with ceramics and crocheting. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a sister, Pamela Spicer.

Fred D. McGee

Wellsville, NY - Fred D. McGee, 67, of 20 Chamberlain Street died Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at his home following a long battle with cancer. He was born August 30, 1943 in Bradford, PA, the son of Fred and Kay (Knappenberger) McGee. He was raised in Andover under the care of Charlotte and Asa Gleason.

Fred was a graduate of Wellsville High School and had attended Brockport State College. He was employed in the Quality Assurance Department of Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville, retiring in 1999. He was a member and Past Commander of the Sons of the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion in Wellsville; he was also a member of the Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601 and the Frank B. Church Post # 2530 VFW in Wellsville.

He is survived by three children, Michelle McGee of Burgaw, NC, Marc (Kim) McGee of Canandaigua and Penny (Juan) McGee DeJesus of Farmington, NY, a granddaughter, Sierra McGee and his fiancée, Kim Baldwin of Wellsville.

Leroy J. Lowrie

Wellsville, NY - Leroy J. Lowrie of South Main Street passed away on Monday, November 1, 2010, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born on July 11, 1919 in Spring Mills New York to William and Mary Pepperman Lowrie. On November 7, 1942 in Little Genesee he married Gladys Raub who predeceased him on October 17, 2006.

Leroy was former resident of Oswayo, PA. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and then spent most of his working career in the oil fields including the Bohne Brothers, R.S. Potter and Son and then later for K-Arcy retiring in 1982.

Survivors include: a son Dale Lowrie of Wellsville; a sister Nina Biscara of Depew and a brother Frank Lowrie of Florida as well as several nieces and nephews.

Leroy was predeceased by his wife Gladys and a twin brother Leon Lowrie.

Robert Leonard "Bob" LaLonde

Belmont, NY - Robert Leonard "Bob" LaLonde of Noble Street passed away suddenly at the age of 64 on Friday October 29, 2010. He was a beloved son of Robert and Ann Panella LaLonde of Budd Lake, NJ. and a loving spouse to Arlene. Bob was a devoted father to six children; Margie, Katie, Annie, Shawn, Sal and Tad and was a fun grandfather to 14 grandchildren. He was a brother to Lenny, Richie, Hazel and Dennis.

Bob was an Air Force Veteran serving from 1965 to 1969 and was a self employed general contractor in Belmont for over 20 years. He will be missed by his church and community as a hard working, compassionate, god loving man. In death, he will continue to selflessly help others through his generous tissue donation. Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Elizabeth "Betty" J. Slocum

Allentown, NY - Elizabeth "Betty" J. Slocum, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, of the Hogbrook Road passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 11, 1932 in Hornell to Albert and Ruth Kemp Burgess. On August 19, 1946 in Bolivar she married the love of her life Howard Slocum who survives.

Betty was a switch board operator for Jones Memorial Hospital from where she retired after 15 years of service. She loved country music, dancing and cross word puzzles. Betty will be fondly remembered as the rock of her family.

Including her husband Betty is survived by: 2 daughters, Ruth (Keith) Swift of Dansville and Janice Slocum of Allentown; 4 sons, Fran (Carol) Slocum of Wellsville, Charles Slocum of Scio, Gerry (Louann) Slocum of Scio and Dennis (Debbie) Slocum of Wellsville; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice (Jim) Berry of Florida and Mary (Fran) Slocum of Wellsville; a brother, Dale Burgess of Wellsville and a brother in law, Harry "Bud" (Carol) Slocum of Shinglehouse, PA.

Donald Floyd Hall Sr.

Alma, NY - Donald Floyd Hall Sr., 81, of 1401 Alma Hill Road, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Bath, NY with his family at his side. He was born October 25, 1928 in the Town of Ward, the son of Floyd and Ruth (Cornelius) Hall. On May 19, 1948 in Genesee, PA he married Dorothy Rarick who survives.

Don was a Veteran if the U.S. Army. He was formerly employed by Bradley Producing of Wellsville, Felmont Corporation of Olean and was a union brick layer for Local 3 of Jamestown. He helped build the Washington Street School in Wellsville and several projects at Alfred State College. He was a member of several antique gas engine associations and the Grange. He also enjoyed raising and racing coon dogs.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 62 years are eight children, Gloria (William) Hamlin of Wellsville, Donald (Debra) Hall Jr. of Wellsville, Ronald (Edith) Hall of Vestal, Dennis W. Hall of Friendship, Diane (Lauren) Caward of Canisteo, Glenn (Cindy) Hall of Wellsville, Denise Perkins of Friendship and Crystal Dutton of Olean, 25 Grandchildren, 43 Great grandchildren, three sisters, Clara Cornell of Wellsville, Helen Turner of Jamestown and Roberta Johnson of Dayton, two brothers, Ronald "Sam" (Anita) Hall of Sinclairville and Harold Hall of Dayton, as well as several nieces & nephews. Edward Eugene "Ed" Whitney

Belmont, NY - Edward Eugene "Ed" Whitney, 57, of 3630 Baker Valley Road died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 21, 2010, shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born on October 14, 1953 in Wellsville, the son of Leonard and Catherine "Cate" (Horn) Whitney Sr.

Ed was a life long resident of Belmont and a graduate of Belmont High School. He was formerly employed at Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville and later was a self employed contractor in the Belmont area. He was currently employed by the Town of Amity, where he served as the cemetery sexton for the past 12 years. Ed took great pride in the appearance of the cemeteries and loved to hunt, fish and spend time with his family.

Janet M. (Ross) Tapogna

COCONUT CREEK, FLA. — Janet M. (Ross) Tapogna, 61, of 1786 Hammock Blvd., died Aug. 30, 2010, at the University Hospital/Medical Center in Tamarac, Fla., following a long illness. She was the daughter of William E. and Shirley B. (Enos) Ross.

Janet was a 1966 graduate of Wellsville High School and received a bachelors degree in Business Administration from Rochester Institute of Technology. She was employed as the human resource manager for CCS of South Florida.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley E. Ross of Wellsville; a brother, Robert W. (Vicky) Ross of Big Flats; and two nephews, William R. Ross of Columbus, Ohio, and Stephen M. Ross of Bagram Air Force Base. She was predeceased by her father in 1992.

Mary Catherine Brace

Wellsville, NY - Mary Catherine Brace, 100, of 230 West State Street died on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Wellsville Highland Healthcare Center. She was born August 13, 1910 in Elmira, NY the daughter of Charles Henry and Mary (Regan) Lewis. On December 28, 1938 in Elmira she married Eugene Otis Brace.

Mary graduated from Elmira College in 1931. She taught French and English at Mayville High School in Mayville, NY and at Elmira Free Academy in Elmira, NY. She later taught second grade at Schererville Elementary School in Schererville, Indiana.

She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Monday Club and the Immaculate Conception Parish in Wellsville. She also served as the Juliet Lowe Chairman for the Girl Scouts of America.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Barbara (Russell Lee) Wood of Oglesby, IL, and Jeanne Suzette (Joel Yves) Le Bigot of Paris, France, and six grandchildren: Michael A. Wood, Mary Wood Clausen, Corinne Wood Goode, Julien Le Bigot, Leslie Le Bigot and Marianne Le Bigot Levinson. Also surviving are 10 great grandchildren as well as several nieces & nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Eugene Otis Brace, in 1992, and by a grandson, Brian Brace Wood, in 1972.

Weedville, PA. / Bolivar, NY - Damien A. Hadsell a former resident of Bolivar died unexpectedly, Monday October 11, 2010. He was born on November 15, 1994 in Wellsville.

Damien had moved from Bolivar to the Bennett's Valley area a year and a half ago and was a sophomore attending St. Mary's High School. He enjoyed writing music under the pen name "Damz".

Carrie H. Decker

Belmont, NY - Carrie H. Decker, 100, a former resident of 3746 Irish Settlement Road died on Monday, October 11, 2010 McAuley Manor in Hornell. She was born June 21, 1910 in Bowmansville, PA the daughter of John W. and Maud L. (Grove) Stiles. On March 10, 1928 in Johnstown, PA she married Joseph C. Decker, Sr. who predeceased her on November 8, 1995.

Carrie was a former resident of Cleveland, Ohio and Johnstown, PA. She was a graduate of the Johnstown High School, a member of the Phillips Creek Methodist Church and had attended the Phillips Creek Mennonite Church.

A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by a son, Joseph (Patricia) Decker Jr. of Belmont, 15 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, a number of great-great grandchildren, one sister, Wilver Decker of Covington, KY, a daughter-in-law, Tuyet Decker of Wellsville, a son-in-law, Roderick Freeland of Belmont and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her husband by one son, David W. Decker in 1993, two daughters, Audrey J. Freeland in 2008 and Beverly C. Saxton in 2009, one brother, Delbert Stiles and one sister, Pearl Clarey.

Florence V. "Flo" Skillman

Wellsville, NY - Florence V. "Flo" Skillman a former resident of Johnson Street passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. On December 17, 1920 in Cleveland Ohio she was born to Arthur and Lillian Dean Earl. In Whitesville on March 28, 1947 she married Franklin A. Skillman who predeceased her on September 13, 1974.

Flo grew up in Irondequoit and moved to this area in the early 1940's. While raising her 6 daughters she worked for the Giant Food Mart and later retired from Peterson's Drug Store after many years of service. Flo had a passion for bowling, at one time she was on 5 different leagues and she bowled up until 2009. She enjoyed baseball and rooted for both the Yankee's and the Met's. Flo will be remembered for her hand made coasters and perpetual calendars as well as always having a camera. She had been a former member and officer of the Women of the Moose, the Cheery Circle in Whitesville and the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Mulberry Twig. Flo truly loved her family and will be missed by them all.

Survivors include: 6 daughters, Marilyn (Bill) Edwards of Irondequoit: Sheila (Bill) Greene of Andover: Linda Weinreber of Wellsville: Sandra (Timothy) Aiken of Wellsville: Kathy (Dale) Mills of Port Edward and Carol (John) Spicer of Wellsville; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; a former son in law Rick Dodd; several nieces and nephews.

William M. Jackson

Wellsville, NY - William Merle "Bill" Jackson Jr., 78, of 4192A Bolivar Road died on Saturday, September, 25, 2010 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born June 25, 1932 in Scio the son of William "Merle" and Gladys (Ost) Jackson. In 1974 he married Angie Marie Burrows who predeceased him in April of 1988.

Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a self employed general contractor locally and in Rochester. He enjoyed working on cars and tinkering. He enjoyed boxing while in the Army and continued to follow boxing for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Ken Shelley of Fillmore and Paul (Jill) Jackson of Stow, Ohio, three stepchildren, David Shelley of Andover, Teresa Shelley of Fillmore and Linda (John) Gibney of Whitesville, nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one brother, Les Jackson of Scio, four sisters, Midge (Bud) Smith of Scio, Hazel Jones of Bolivar, Phyllis (Bill) Jones of Auburn, KY and Louise Schrlau of Wellsville as well as several nieces & nephews. Berwyn J. Hauser

Wellsville, NY - Berwyn J. Hauser, 81, of 2898 Field Street died on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo. He was born October 11, 1928 at the Tullar Maternity Hospital in Wellsville the son of Carl Frederick and Edna (Waterman) Hauser. He was the life long companion of Shirley Neu who predeceased him on July 1, 2010.

Berwyn was a life long resident of Wellsville with the exception of a few months in Wellsboro, PA where he ran a local taxi service just prior to entering the Air Force. He served as a Military Policeman Officer with United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. It was during his military service that he was tapped as a "sign painter", which became his primary vocation. Many, if not all of the sign projects proposed, started out as sketches on napkins at the diner or the Texas Hot! He was a 1946 graduate of Wellsville High School and kept a detailed history of class reunions and class mates. The flexibility of this vocation allowed variety and expertise to his work life. He managed the Wellsville Skating Rink and was a bus driver for Wellsville Central School for many years. He owned and operated The Sign Shop in Wellsville from 1970 until his retirement in 1993. He helped organize the Wellsville Blue Devil Drum & Bugle Corps and supported the Modern Diner, Castaways and the Texas Hot in ways to numerous to mention. His tall frame and distinctive hat, his willingness and ability to help whenever and whomever asked, made his presence on Main Street notable. Coffee time anywhere in Wellsville will not be the same.

He is survived by a sister, Kathryn Hauser Genung of San Leandro, CA, two nieces, Marilyn Genung Khalaji of Fremont, CA, Irene "Rene" Genung of Rock Hill, SC, and one nephew, Wayne Genung of Rock Hill, SC as well as several great nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Art Genung, a nephew, Merton Genung and a niece, Nancy Lee.

Ronald O. Gelser

Belmont, NY - Ronald O. Gelser of Schuyler Street passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010, at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born on April 11, 1952 in Wellsville to Orlo and Marleah James Gelser.

Ron graduated from Friendship Central High School and had been a member of the Laborers Union 621 since 1970. He was a social member of the Belmont American Legion Post 808 and a member of the National Rifle Association. Ron loved the outdoors including; fishing, hunting, gardening and when he was able he rode 4 wheelers with his family. He had built several log cabin homes including his own on the Byrnes Road.

Joyce Marie Christina Curtis-Waldon

Wellsville, NY - Joyce Marie Christina Curtis-Waldon of Valencia Avenue passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on April 7, 1941 in Wellsville to William and Anna Mary Curtis. On October 21, 1967 in Wellsville she married Reginald Waldon who survives.

Joyce loved spending time with her family. She was a die hard Buffalo Bills Fan and loved Elvis and the Beatles. Joyce always enjoyed wildlife, particularly bird watching and was always happy with a piece of chocolate cake.

Wellsville, NY - Nancy E. Merry, 43, of 3026 Trapping Brook Road died on Sunday, September 12, 2010 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born June 15, 1967 in Wellsville, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Coyle) Merry.

Nancy was raised in Scio and was a graduate of Scio Central Scio. She was formerly employed at McDonalds in Wellsville and was a childcare provider. She enjoyed shopping and loved her Boston terrier "Alley".

She is survived by her long time companion, Darryl Conley of Wellsville, her son, Brian Merry of Wellsville, her mother, Mary Merry of Wellsville, four brothers, Alfred (Isabelle) Merry of Rome, NY, Daniel Merry of Scio, Michael Merry and Thomas Merry both of Wellsville, and several aunts & uncles including, Ruth Radtke of Rochester, Sylvia Merry of Scio, Walter (Virginia) Coyle of Wellsville and Margaret Coyle Evans of Wellsville, as well as several nieces & nephews. Lois Anne Linza Bledsoe

Bryan, TX - Lois Anne Linza Bledsoe, 67, formerly of Wellsville and Whitesville, NY, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on August 24, 2010 at her home in Bryan. She was born on January 21, 1943 in Wellsville, the daughter of Merle C and Anna D. Goodridge Linza. On July 15, 1961 she married, in Whitesville, Russell E. Bledsoe, who survives.

Lois traveled with Russell in the US Air Force to Germany and around the US. She was an avid square dancer and card player, loved making ceramics and being a hairdresser. She also raised and sold birds.

Surviving in addition to her husband, one daughter, Kristine and special friend, Debra Mackey, in Abilene, TX; a brother, Lee Linza and special friend Heather James, in Perry, NY; two foster sons, Charles (Kati) Mills, Bryan, TX and Russell O. (Noelle) Bledsoe, Abilene, TX; her mother, Anna Linza, Perry, NY; several aunts and uncles; cousins and five foster grandchildren. Geraldine L. "Geri" Harris

Amargosa Valley, Nevada - Geraldine L. "Geri" Harris, 88, a former resident of Wellsville died on Friday, August 20, 2010 at her home. She was born February 20, 1922 in Caneadea the daughter of LeClare and Florence (Stone) Balcom. On June 23, 1942 in Rushford she married Raymond J. Harris who predeceased her on December 21, 1995.

Geri and Ray were foster parents to several children prior to the birth of their second child in 1959. She continued to care for many of her neighbors' children over the years before the days of child day care centers. She was a member of the Stannards United Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing, gardening and traveling

She is survived by three daughters, Jean (Larry) Weese of Amargosa Valley, NV, Christine Tuttle of Cato, NY and Barbara (William) Davis of Wellsville, two grandsons, Casey and Erik Tuttle of Cato, one brother, Edwin (LeAnna Harrington) Balcom of Arcade, as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Wayne Balcom.

Mary Arlene Lewis

Wellsville, NY - Mary Arlene Lewis, 84, of 4200 Fassett Lane passed away at home on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 28, 1925 in Wellsville the daughter of William H. and Mary Agnes (McNicholas) Burns. On December 5, 1944 in Wellsville she married Leonard A. Lewis who survives.

Mary was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School and Wellsville High School. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Altar & Rosary Society and was a former member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Mary was a loving wife and mother who loved her home, tending to her flowers, and watching and feeding backyard birds and wildlife.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Connie Ann (Kenneth) Kirk of Corning, five grandchildren: Benjamin L. Kirk, Johnathan P. Kirk, Andrew S. Lewis, Christopher T. Lewis and Sarah E. Lewis; a great grandson, Hunter J. Lewis; a daughter-in-law, Connie A. Lewis of Scio as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas James Lewis in 1991.

John C. Shanley

Belmont, NY - John C. Shanley of 13 Schuyler Street passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born on October 8, 1918 in Pratt Kansas to Francis and Hazel Tucker Shanley. He married Coletta Mulligan on July 10, 1947 who predeceased him on January 26, 1984.

John moved to the Cuba area with his family in 1923. He worked for the Erie Railroad and during WWII entered the military serving 4 years in the army. He was stationed in the European Theater of Operation and was veteran of the Normandy Invasion. Returning home after the war John went back to work for the railroad. After his marriage to Coletta he worked on the Mulligan Farm where stayed for 30 years. John later worked for the Allegany County Highway Department and for 17 years he delivered meals on wheels. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 808 both of Belmont.

Survivors include: a son, Brother Paul Shanley of the Belmont Abbey in Belmont, NC.; a daughter, Mary Rauber of Dansville; 2 grandchildren, Erin Rauber of Avon and Brian Rauber of Williamsville; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 2 sons, Robert Paul Shanley and John Joseph Shanley; 3 brothers and 3 sisters and a son in law Ted Rauber.

Wellsville, NY - Helen I. Kosa of Fulmer Valley Road passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2001, at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 15, 1924 in Dorna, PA. to Brady and Erma Wolf Geer. On February 23, 1946 in Wellsville she married Ernie Kosa who survives.

Helen served during WWII in the Women's Army Corps where she took care of returning wounded soldiers in a US Army hospital in Arkansas. Along with her family she attended the Christian Missionary Church in Hallsport. In her younger days she enjoyed hunting and later she collected old bottles. Helen loved flowers and had many growing around her home. She believed in motherhood and was a full time mom.

Survivors include: her husband of 64 years Ernie; a son Gary (Brenda) Kosa of Greenwood; 2 daughters; Yolanda (Lawrence) Newton of Manheim, PA. and Linda (William) Postl of Mount Vernon, Washington; 7 grandchildren; Brady Newton, Jamie Newton, Rene Abbate, Andrew Kosa, J.J. Postl, Shelby Postl and Marqie Postl; 2 great grandchildren, Drake Newton and Carter Abbate.; a brother Robert Geer of Bell CA.; 3 sisters, Shirley (Paul) Arsenault of Haddam, CT., Louella (Orin) Dickerson of Shinglehouse, PA. and Donna Fusco of Texas; several nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by 6 brothers and sisters.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday August 29 at 12:30 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville with pastor Dick Helms presiding.
