Belmont, NY - Laura Jean "Jeannie" Marsh, age 80, of County Route 48 passed away at home on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. She was born in Belmont to Clyde and Lottie Smith Hanchett. On April 23, 1955 in Belmont she married James Robert "Bob" Marsh who predeceased her on May 15, 2010.
Jeannie was a lifelong resident of Belmont who graduated from Belmont Central High School. She later graduated from the Doyle Beauty School in Buffalo and the Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City. She had her own beauty shop at Tuckers Corners and then taught cosmetology at BOCES for 23 years retiring in 1988. Jeanie was a member of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association as well as a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Belmont. Jeannie's love was her church, family, work and community. She was an active member of the church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Youth Club Leader, had been a deaconess and along with her husband Bob, volunteered for 12 years at the Baptist Bible College in Clark Summit, PA.
Survivors include, 2 sons, Gary (Sherry) Marsh of Belmont and Robert (Laurie) Marsh of Wilmington Delaware; a daughter, Gail (Michael) Higgins of Ranson, West Virginia; eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Edward (Sally) Hanchett of Belmont.
Jeannie was predeceased by a brother, Donald Hanchett and a sister, Anna Mae Aylor.
Friends may attend a memorial service on Saturday, November 16 at 2 pm in the First Baptist Church in Belmont with reverend Roger Downer presiding. Burial will take place in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont and in lieu of flowers memorials in her name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Belmont . She was my teacher at BOCES in 75 and 76. She will truly be miss. Prayers to the family and friends.
