Jim was raised in Ward, he was a 1951 graduate of Alfred Almond Central School. He was a United States Navy Veteran, serving from 1955-1957 on the USS Shakori AFT 162 and the USS Preserver ARS 8. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by Dresser Rand Corporation in Wellsville for 38 years, working his way from a Test Floor Electrician to a Section Manager, and retired in June of 1995. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover. He enjoyed Drag Racing where he won numerous races in various classes, loved anything with an engine, playing golf, and horse shoes.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by: two sons, Gregory (Cheryl) McAndrew of Wellsville, and Brian (Kathy) McAndrews of Friendship; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by: six brothers, Louis R., Francis C., Howard C., Vincent L., and George F. McAndrews and Edward J. Dougherty; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth (McAndrew) Holenbeck.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm, and on Thursday, June 9, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville, 34 West State Street. The funeral will follow visitation Thursday at 11:00 am in the funeral home.
