She was born September 25, 1932 in Wellsville New York, the daughter of Donald and Bernice (Peet) King.
Growing up, Wanda was an accomplished skater at Funland Skating Rink. She graduated from Wellsville School and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict where she was an instrument mechanic at Mather Air Force Base. She also attended Alfred State Agricultural and Technical College. During her lifetime, she worked at the Fassett House, Motorola in Arcade, and worked many years at Jones Memorial Hospital as a lab technician, retiring in May 1995.
Wanda was an active member in community activities while raising her boys. She was a longtime member of the Wellsville American Legion Post #702 where, in the past, she was Commander twice, and also served as 1st Vice Commander and Membership Chairman, as well as 2nd Vice Commander and 3rd Vice Commander during her membership with the Post. She was recognized in 2014 by Legion Post # 702 for her forty-six years of service with Post #702.
She loved camping and traveling and enjoyed time spent with friends and relatives. Wanda's personality was larger than life and her presence in the room was always immense. There was never a dull moment when “Wicked Wanda” was around – a nickname which fit her personality to a “T”. Wanda was exceptionally proud of her accomplishments in life (she wrote the majority of this obituary herself!) and of her family.
She is survived by two sons, Donald (Svetlana) Norris of Casper, WY and Scott Norris of Wellsville, as well as one granddaughter, Janelle (Joseph) Young and three great-grandsons, Noah Windus, Evan Windus and Cooper Young, all of Angelica. Also surviving are several aunts and cousins. A very important part of her life for many years was Lewis Jackson, and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, a son Terry Norris, her longtime companion Lewis A. Jackson, and her beloved pet Luci.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Wanda at Jones Memorial Hospital. Nothing rattled her. She had a terrific personality and her big smile and laughter will brighten my memories of her. Sandy Guenter

ReplyDeleteI worked with Wanda many years ago at Jones Memorial Hospital. Wanda was such a great person and friend. I will always remember Wanda's big personality. Wanda was always up for fun and adventure. Love and prayers are with you all. Wanda will be missed.
