Gregory R. Winterhalter, 59

Belmont, NY - Gregory R. Winterhalter, 59, of 84 Greenwich Street, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on November 8, 1961 in Wellsville, NY the son of  John “Jack” and Helen (Whitney) Winterhalter. 

Greg was raised in Belmont and was a 1980 graduated of Belmont Central School. He was employed by the Laidlaw Shop in Belmont; Great Lakes Cheese in Cuba for twenty years; and most recently was a foreman for the Village of Belmont until his death. Greg was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 808, a life member of the Belmont Volunteer Fire Department, and an avid hunter. 

He is survived by: his companion, Ellen Graham of Belmont; three sons, Joshua Winterhalter of Winter Park, FL, Josh Graham of Wellsville, and Jacob Winterhalter of Belmont; three grandchildren; his parents, Jack and Helen Winterhalter of Belmont; a sister, Mary Jo (Michael Trivisondoli) Healey of Angelica, a brother, Jeffery (Christa Zenoski) Winterhalter of Belmont; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his beloved black lab Zoey. 

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., 17 Schuyler Street in Belmont. The funeral will be private and burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Please consider memorial donations to Amity Rescue or the Belmont Volunteer Fire Department.   1. We are so sorry to hear about Greg, he was a good friend and we had many good times with his joking ways. Rest in Heaven Greg... many gentle hugs and condolences to his family.

  3. We did not get to see each other too often as adults, but we sure did have a great friendship that developed as kids. We always had a lot of fun together, and our share of mischief (also in the spirit of fun). Gary, you, and I were only a few months apart in age and had a special bond because of it. I wonder what it was like when our moms walked together with their bellies sticking out carrying the best of the Winterhalters. I will miss you Greg, but our memories of you will never fade.   7. Im sorry to hear of Greg’s passing. I’m glad I got to visit with him the last time I was home and saw him at the legion. We had lots of old memories to laugh about. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
