Belmont, NY - Sharon L. Cartwright, age 63, of 5346 Farr Road, has passed away on Thursday February 11th, 2016 after a short stay at The Hart Comfort House. She was born in Wellsville on September 24, 1952 to Robert A. Abbott Sr and Donna Mae Baker. On April 14, 1972 she married the love of her life James S. Cartwright Sr. who survives.
Sharon was raised in Belmont and graduated from Belmont Central School in 1970 with her State certification from B.O.C.E.S Vocational School for Cosmetology. After school was an employee of Chris's Market; an employee at Motorola of Arcade, NY, for two years; she married her high school sweetheart at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Belmont, NY. From there she was employed at ACME Electric of Cuba, NY; After working at ACME she became a waitress for a short time at the Coffee Mill of Belmont, NY. After Raising two Children she returned to the work force as a bank teller at Key Bank and head teller at Steuben Trust Co. until retirement. After retirement, she became a caretaker of her mother, and had babysat for many children all of which she is very proud, and was the assistant Town Clerk of Belmont under Judy Hurd.
Along with being a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and great aunt, Sharon had been a member of the Eastern Star, was a Blue Star Mother with Robin Green and other friends, a member of the Legion Auxiliary of Troy Post 14 of Troy Pennsylvania, along with the American Legion Riders of Troy Pennsylvania with her husband, son brother and sister in law.
Sharon volunteered for the March or Dimes. She was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts with her daughter and friend Mrs Yvonne Mills in Georgia while her husband was station there in the U.S. Navy.
Sharon had many hobbies which include sewing, embroidering, and quilting with her cousin Carol Miller, Pogo games, riding motorcycle with her husband family and friends especially for vacations to see NASCAR races and Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C., sitting on the front porch drinking coffee, spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed her time with horses.
Sharon was diagnosed with a rare cancer of the left adrenal gland in the summer of 2014. After surgery she was cancer free/in remission for about 6 months. In March of 2015 the cancer started to grow aggressively where she fought this long and painful disease. On February 10, 2016, she was moved to the Hart Comfort House where she was cared for with the presence of family including her husband, son, sister, nephew Kyle and daughter in law Keirsten throughout her stay, and had passed with her loving husband by her side.
Survivors include her mother Donna Mae (Baker) Abbott of Hornell, NY, 1 Brother Robert A. (Susie) Abbott JR., 1 sister Kim M. (David) Waters , husband James S Cartwright SR., her daughter Michaela M. Cartwright (Chris Vazquez) of Palm Harbor, FL, and her son James S. Cartwright II (Keirsten L. Hoffman) of Belmont, NY; 1 granddaughter Tara Lynn Cartwright as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Sharon was predeceased by her father Robert 'Bob' Abbott, her mother in law Florance E. Slater and father in law James P. Cartwright.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday, February 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Belmont. Church Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10:00am at The Holy Family Church in Belmont.

Sharon was a best friend, gentle instructor, loving friendly face and we shared so much laughter while we enjoyed our time together at work. I will never forget Sharon and her family whose children seemed like my own. I love you all.
