Wellsville, NY - Wilma M. DeMarte, age 94, of Merriam Heights passed away on Tuesday, January 5, at the Hart Comfort House of Wellsville. She was born on July 29, 1921 in the Town of Willing to Homer and Mary Sekoll Brundage. On January 17, 1942 she married Ralph DeMarte who predeceased her on April 5, 1977.
Wilma was a lifelong resident of the Wellsville area. Upon graduating from Wellsville Central High School and became a school secretary for the high school principal. She took time off from work to raise her family and later went to work at the WLSV Radio station. Wilma was a long time bartender at the American Legion Post #702 in Wellsville and was a fixture at the voting stations around Wellsville. She was a member of the American Legion Post #702 Auxiliary, the 40 and 8 Auxiliary, the Immaculate Conception Church and the Mercy Associates. Wilma was an avid bowler who bowled in many leagues and tournaments and also enjoyed playing cards especially euchre.
Survivors include her son Larry (Trudy) DeMarte of Greece; a daughter Diane Scirto of Lockport; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as several cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband Ralph and two sons Thomas and Michael DeMarte.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday January 23, 2016, in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery and memorials in Wilma’s name may be made to the Hart Comfort House at 141 East State Street in Wellsville.
