Wellsville, NY - Lloyd “Sam” Lamphier, 89, of 1852 Petrolia Hill Road, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 17, 1926 in Wellsville, the son of the late Elmer and Eva (Chandler) Lamphier. On June 25, 1955 in Fredonia he married Lois M. Winkelman who predeceased him on February 19, 2008.
Sam was a veteran of WW II serving with the U. S. Army. He was employed as a Layout Man for C. E. Air Preheater Company in Wellsville for 32 years; retiring in 1988. He was a founding member of the Petrolia Hose Company # 2. He enjoyed spending time outdoors with family and friends, fishing at his pond and visiting with his neighbors.
He is survived by a son, Larry (Ellen) Lamphier of Wellsville, two daughters, Michelle (Tom) Dundar and Lanette (Dave) Pye, both of Wellsville, 10 grandchildren, Amanda (Nate) Mitchell, Ashley (Don) Sobon, Samuel Lamphier, Shane Dunbar, Dylan Dunbar, Danielle Lamphier, Samantha Lamphier, Ethan Lamphier, Joshua Pye and Jessica Pye, several great grandchildren, a sister, Freida Ballerstein of Wellsville, a brother, Howard Lamphier of Wellsville, and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Florence Gaylord, Helen Lamphier, Ruth McDowell and Ella Nicholson.
Friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 24th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. A memorial service will follow visitation at 3:00 pm Sunday in the funeral home with Diane Cox presiding. The family suggest memorial donations be made to the Petrolia Hose Company # 2.
