Doris D. Mingus

Wellsville, NY - Doris D. Mingus, 83, a former longtime resident of 37 Franklin Street, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born March 21, 1932 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Francis and Ella (Vogel) Donovan. On January 30, 1954 in Wellsville she married Robert H. Mingus who predeceased her on July 8, 2001.

Doris was a 1948 graduate of Wellsville High School and a 1952 graduate of the Sisters of Mercy, School of Nursing. She was formerly employed at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Altar & Rosary Society and the Lord’s Housekeepers. She was a former member of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department; Ladies Auxiliary and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a supporter of the Arbor Day Foundation, the National Audubon Society and enjoyed knitting.   

She is survived by five children, Michael (Nancy) Mingus of Lyndonville, Stephen (Terri) Mingus of Livonia, Diane (Jerry) Giardina of Enola, PA, Andrew (Kim) Mingus of Mechanicsburg, PA and Monica (Mark) Finn of Wellsville, eight grandchildren, Marissa Mingus, Paige (Ross) Donatelli, Jeremy Giardina, Joshua Giardina, Zachary Mingus, Sean Mingus, Patrick Finn and Connor Finn, one great grandson, Xavier Mendoza, one brother, Donald (Carol) Donovan of Cuba, a sister-in-law, Floy Donovan of Wellsville and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a brother, Robert Donovan.

Hilda A. (Doerler) Whitney

BELMONT, NY – Hilda A. (Doerler) Whitney, 80, passed away on Friday (December 25, 2015) unexpectedly at her home. Born July 31, 1935 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, Hilda was predeceased by her parents, Karl and Helene (Ziegler) Doerler. On August 15, 1959, Hilda married Robert “Bob” Whitney. Their five children are John (Laura) Whitney of East Aurora, Kathryn (William) Lucey of Middletown, RI, James (Patricia) Whitney of Belmont, Donald (Sharon) Whitney of Willowick, OH, and Michael Whitney of Belmont. Grandchildren are Aleah (Michael) Kirchner, Brian Whitney, Bradley Whitney, William Lucey IV, Tucker Lucey, Benjamin Whitney, Lief Whitney (deceased), Simon Whitney, and step-grandsons, Jacob Grisewood and Joseph (Katelyn) Grisewood. At her 80th birthday celebration, Hilda had an opportunity to meet her first great-grandchild, Cameron, son of Aleah and Michael. Hilda is also survived by siblings William (Patricia) Doerler of Pennington, NJ and Ilse (John “Al”) Kitchen of Munds Park, AZ, and many nieces and nephews. She remained in close contact with extended family in Germany and Austria.

She attended Friendship Central School and Buffalo State College where she studied home economics education and sang in the college choir. She taught briefly at Mexico, NY High School and at the former Belmont Central School and was a regular substitute teacher at Belmont for many years in addition to working with Bob on their extensive flower gardens and Feathers Creek Road sheep farm.

Many Belmont elementary students had their first up-close experience with lambs and other farm livestock through school trips to visit Hilda at the farm. Hilda loved her flower gardens nearly as much as she loved babies.  She was a seamstress and always had dozens of knitting or crocheting projects in various stages of completion. Hilda was a strong supporter of 4H, teaching sewing and judging apparel or cooking entries at the Allegany County Fair for many, many years. She volunteered countless hours serving the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary as a member of the Lilac Twig and was the Auxiliary’s secretary. Hilda was an active member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Belmont and was a coordinator of the annual rummage until the church recently closed. She became an active member of St. John’s Church in Wellsville after St. Philip’s closed.

Frieda L. Budde

Olean, NY - Frieda L. Budde, 79, of 3046 Cadiz Road passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Olean General Hospital with her family at her side. She was born September 9, 1936 in Belmont the daughter of the late Edward and Erlene (Watkins) Sherwood. On June 4, 1955 in Belmont she married George F. Budde Sr. who predeceased her on May 28, 1984.

Frieda was raised in Belmont and has resided in Franklinville for the past 60 years. She loved her family, and her animals and she enjoyed canning, crocheting, knitting and sewing.

She is survived by two sons, George Budde Jr. of Wayland and Tracy Budde of Olean, two daughters, Mary Budde and Frieda McConnell both of Franklinville, four grandchildren, Ashley, Joey, Patricia, and Mary, four great grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Richard Livergood of Belmont, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by four sisters, Jeannette Davison, Kathryn Flint, Mildred Sherwood, and Helen Livergood, and one brother, Edward Sherwood.

Francis B. Slocum Sr.

Wellsville, NY - Francis B. Slocum Sr., 79, of 3592 Weidrich Road passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015 at home with his family at his side. He was born August 14, 1936 in Wellsville, the son of Carl and Esther (Burton) Slocum. On August 16, 1960 in Gaines he married Mary R. Burgess who predeceased him on November 4, 2012.

“Fran” was a 40 year employee of C. E. Air Preheater Company; retiring in 2001. He was formerly employed at Woodlawn Cemetery and was a self-employed mason. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean War and served with the Army Reserves for 20 years. He was a member of the Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601, the Morrison-Hayes American Legion Post 702 and was a former member of the Duke Hose Company # 1. He enjoyed carpentry crafts and the great outdoors. He was a great husband, father, grandfather & Great grandfather, who loved spending time with his family.

He is survived two daughters, Catherine (Tom) Neugent and Deborah (Jim) Kozlowski, two sons, Francis B. Slocum II and Daniel F. Slocum, all of Wellsville, five grandchildren, Belinda, Stephanie, April, James and Trinity, four great grandchildren, Kennedy, Caitlin, Connor and Brockton, a brother, Howard Slocum, two sister-in-law’s, Carol Slocum and Alice (Jim) Berry, brother-in-law, Dale Burgess, and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his wife by a brother, Bud Slocum.

Marguerite B. Petrie

Wellsville, NY - Marguerite B. Petrie, age 94, of River View Heights passed away on Thursday December 17 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on July 16, 1921 in Gaffney, Pennsylvania to Vincenzo and Concetta Rao Bruzzi. On December 24, 1943 in the St. Eulalia Roman Catholic Church in Coudersport she married Jack M. Petrie who predeceased her on April 9, 2009.

Marguerite worked in the millinery hat department of J.J. Newberry in Wellsville and retired from CE. Air Preheater in 1983. She enjoyed her family, traveling and playing bridge. Marguerite was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.

Marguerite is survived by 2 nieces, Janice (David) Schaub of Bellefonte, PA, and Mary Spadafor of Erie, PA.; 4 nephews, Robert (Becky) Nolan of Coudersport, PA, Scott Bruzzi of Coudersport, PA, Mark Bruzzi of Rochester and John (Mary) Pellegrino of Erie, PA.; 4 great nieces, Amy (Brian) Karfonta of Eldersburg, MD, Angela (Michael) Stebila of Selinsgrove, PA, Anne (Brian) Parise of Selinsgrove, PA, and Sara (Aaron) Tyson of Bellefonte, PA.; many great great nieces and nephews.

Marguerite was predeceased by her parents; 3 sisters, Teresa Deni, Rose Pellegrino and Angelina Nolan; 3 brothers, Frank, John, and Augustine Bruzzi.

Karyn M. Bratcher

Wellsville, NY - Karyn M. Bratcher, 49, of 196 East Dyke Street passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 12, 2015 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born August 3, 1966 in Dansville, the daughter of John and Catherine (Harder) Bratcher.

Karyn attended school in Livonia. She was formerly employed at PWI in Wellsville and has resided at the ARC Dyke Street Residence. She enjoyed arts, crafts, crocheting and coloring.

She is survived by her mother, Catherine Callaro of Wellsville, three brothers, Randy and Eric Bratcher of Wellsville and Matthew Callaro of Livonia, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends at ARC. She was predeceased by her father.

Murray E. “Red” Richmond

Wellsville, NY - Murray E. “Red” Richmond, 65, of 3524 Andover Road passed away at home on Sunday, December 13, 2015 with his family at his side and after battling a long illness. He was born April 14, 1950 in Wellsville, the son of the late Murray Lynn and Joann M. (Chilson) Richmond. On July 7, 1990 in Whitesville he married Mary Lewis who survives.

Murray was a well-known mechanic for many years at various businesses in Allegany, Steuben and Cattaraugus counties. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and also enjoyed camping and cookouts. He was a member of the Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601, where he served as sergeant-at-Arms and was a social member of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW in Wellsville.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Richmond, two daughter, Elice (Thomas) Slavin Jr. and Lana Richmond of Wellsville, close family friend, Dirk “Dirky” Pratt of Wellsville, 14 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, four step-children, Dennis Ellsworth of Wellsville, Ken Ellsworth of Warsaw, Christine Baker of Pavilion and Kathy Horton of Maryland, four sisters, Mary Orpet of Whitesville, Sherry Milkeris of Wellsville, Holly (Rick) Ordway of Whitesville, and Beth (Gary) Giddings of Wellsville, four brothers, Jim (Carol) Richmond of Andover, Monte (Bonnie) Richmond of Cuba, Mark (Christie) Richmond of Whitesville and Gary (Mary) Richmond of Hornell, as well as several nieces & nephews. Sandra L. Bilby

Wellsville, NY - Sandra L. Bilby, 60, of 3711 County Road 28 passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at home with her family at her side. She was born on January 28, 1955 in Syracuse the daughter of the late Beverly Genevieve Gray. On September 28, 1984 in Wellsville she married Jack Bilby who survives.

Sandy was raised in Olean and was a former resident of Bolivar. She was employed by Allegany County ARC and retired in 2008.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Michelle (Martin) Seamans of Wellsville and Helen Bilby of Scio, and one granddaughter, Aubree Seamans.

Peter I. Burr

Alfred, NY - Peter I. Burr, 85, of 82 West University Street passed away at home on Saturday November 21, 2015. He was born July 27, 1930 in Waterbury, CT the son of the late Edward and Helen (Bwel) Burr.

Peter was a former resident of Moodus, CT and was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1955. He was first employed by the Peace Corps and later by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) as the Regional Manager in Wellsville; retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Alfred-Almond University Lodge #230 F & AM and the Alfred United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Alejandro Burr of Bolivia, four grandchildren, Claudia, Allie, Alex and Jo-el, four great grandchildren, Bella, Brennan, Chris and Vincent, two brothers, Michael Burr of California and John Burr of Florida, former daughter-in-law, Yara Pinedo, and his former wife and companion, Yolanda Fernandois.

Kristen Aileen (Mattison) Hunt

Fulmer Valley (Wellsville), New York - Kristen Aileen (Mattison) Hunt, 33, of Wellsville, passed away from unknown causes on Sunday, November 15, 2015.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, with a catholic service performed by Deacon Frank Pasquale at 11 a.m.. Burial will take place in Stannards Cemetery with a gathering of friends and family at the Willing Town Hall for the remainder of the day.

Kristen, referred to as “Binky” when she was a child and then as “K Matti” as she grew older, was born September 3, 1982, in Melrose, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Guy and Lee Mattison, the fourth of five children. She graduated from Wellsville Senior High School with the class of 2001 and attended Alfred State College for a technology degree. With the degree, she was a technology specialist and business analyst for companies including Adelphia Communications, Corning Inc., Alstom and most recently Education Testing Services at Princeton University in Princeton, NJ.

Kristen married the love of her life, Daniel Hunt in Letchworth State Park on May 23, 2015. This was a day of celebration and unity of two beautiful hearts. Dan treated her like the princess she was. He loved her, and she loved him. Kristen brought him out of his shell and together they enjoyed their years together.

She always had a smile on her face, you never saw her without one. She’d walk into a room and it lit up! Her free spirit enabled her to travel with her husband. She introduced Dan to a wonderful new experience in life outside of New York. Daniel never strayed far from home, but with her he did. They loved to get in the car and just go for a ride, many times taking her beloved dog, Chico.

As a free spirit who loved to travel, she met people and made friends where ever she went. People were naturally attracted to her and her kindness. She saw the good in everyone. She touched so many hearts!

As a child and even into her adult life, Kristen liked to hang out and be surrounded by her family, all children and friends. She was blessed with and adored by her thirteen nieces and nephews, which at times you may have seen them all dangling from the trees or running through a farm field. Kristen was like a big child herself.

Throughout life, she had special bonds with her parents and siblings. As a family, they enjoyed going to the lake, boating and anything that had to do with a beach. Even if the family could not go somewhere, she would spend countless hours on the phone just chatting. Her grandmother, Aileen Richardson held a special place in her heart. 

As a child, Kristen was a sports fanatic. She played soccer, softball, was on the prom court and was very popular. She was a fun-loving, active child who played tag-a-long with her older siblings. A neighborhood favorite was playing hide ‘n go seek in the neighborhood with about 20 other kids. She touched so many hearts!

Survivors include Kristen’s husband, Daniel, of Andover; parents, Guy and Lee Mattison Andover; siblings, Karen (Todd) Tuecke, Dubuque, IA; Kimberly (Cory) Gates, Wellsville; Katherine (Andrew) Gates, Conesus; and Steven (significant other Chelsey) Mattison, Wellsville; father and mother in-laws, Steven and Fay Hunt, Wellsville; sister in-laws Tracey Hunt and Stephanie (Sean) Hunt, Wellsville; Daniel’s maternal grandmother, Ethel Stambaugh, Wellsville; Daniel’s paternal grandfather, Lester Hunt, Wellsville; nieces and nephews Kristine and Kennedy Tuecke, Peyton Ribblett, Wyatte, Garrette and Bowen Gates, Blake Mattison, Bradley and Bryce Erickson, and Ava, Casey and Finn Stevens; and her two beloved pets, Chico and Trixie. 

She is preceded in death by grandparents, Clifford and Marian Mattison and William and Aileen Richardson and a brother in-law Tyler E. Hunt.

Kristen is loved by all who knew her, especially by her family and friends.

Patricia Ann Tronetti

Wellsville, NY - Patricia Ann Tronetti, 85, of 58 Sunnydale Avenue passed away peacefully on Monday, November 16, 2015 in the comfort room of Jones Memorial Hospital; with her loving family at her side. She was born September 6, 1930 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Charles and Doris (Sortore) Horner. Upon Doris’s death, Charles met and married Virginia Hauselt. On June 20, 1953 in Belmont, she married Joseph A. Tronetti who predeceased her on March 30, 1993.

Patricia was raised in Belmont, and was a graduate of Belmont High School. She attended Meyer School of Nursing in Buffalo and was employed as a Registered Nurse on the staff at Jones Memorial Hospital and later at Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville.  

She was a member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the gift shop for many years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church; she enjoyed quilting, knitting, lunches with the retired nurses and loved watching the Buffalo Bills.

She is survived by one son, Michael (Linda) Tronetti of Wellsville, three daughters, Pamela  (Russell Steenhoff) Tronetti of Rochester, Kay (Mark) Heaney of Angelica and Julie Ross of Kennett Square, PA, eight grandchildren, Joseph, Katharyn, Bryan, Michael, Logan, Joseph, Madeline and Samuel, brother-in-law, Charles “Bud” Tronetti of Belmont, sister-in-law, Barbara Munro of Wellsville, several cousins and beloved neighbors, Kathy & Lon Hamiln.  She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a half-sister, Sandra Horner, a brother-in-law, Terry Munro and a sister-in-law Gloria Tronetti.

Harry K. Boyer

Grace M. Lounsbury

Friendship, NY - Grace M. Lounsbury, “Loving mother and grandmother”, 87, of 4933 Maple Grove Road passed away on Thursday, November, 12, 2015 at Olean General Hospital following a lingering illness. She was born October 12, 1928 in Stannards, the daughter of Adelbert and Bertha (Fanton) Fanton. On April 2, 1960 in Horseheads she married William Lounsbury who predeceased her on September 22, 2011.

Grace was a former resident of Wellsville, Olean and Stannards and attended Wellsville High School. She was formerly employed at the Lincoln Diner in Olean and was a former member of the Stannards United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Eugene “Butch” Wentling and his wife Esther of Greenville, NC, two daughters, Kimberly Lounsbury of Friendship and Denise Luke and her husband Todd of Savannah, GA, 12 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Elmer, Norman, Lawerence, Herman, and Victor Fanton, two sisters, Lanora Geer and Leda Wentling and a grandson, Eugene Carl Wentling Jr.

Joseph D. Keib

Wellsville, NY - Joseph D. Keib, 52, of 44 Howard Street died unexpectedly on Friday, October 30, 2015 at home. He was born March 9, 1963 in Wellsville the son of Richard E. and Anita (Gleason) Keib. 

 

Joe was raised in Wellsville and was a 1982 graduate of Wellsville High School. He was formerly employed in Wellsville at the Cameo Restaurant, Bells Market and at Northern Lights Candles for 19 years.

 

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 702 in Wellsville. He was a devoted son, who was a great help to his mother.

 

He is survived by his mother and father both of Wellsville, a brother, Daniel (Sharon) Keib of Wellsville, a sister, Kandra (Kevin) Garwood of Placerville, CA, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dr. Frank Clifton Miller Jr.

Scio, NY - Dr. Frank Clifton Miller Jr., 70, of 4607 Waughbrook Road died on Monday, October 26, 2015, following an automobile accident in the Town of Wellsville. He was born January 13, 1945 in Bryn Mawr, PA the son of the late Frank C. and Marion (Freeman) Miller Sr. On December 2, 2002 he married Dianna Fleming who survives.

Dr. Miller was raised in Massachusetts and graduated from Lunenburg High School. He received his bachelors from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from the University of Vermont in 1971. He completed his pediatrics residency and was chief pediatrics resident at the University of Vermont in 1976. He began his career in the Wellsville area in 1972 as a general practitioner. He completed his OB/GYN residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1982.  

Dr. Miller was beloved by his patients and will be sadly missed by his colleagues at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; a gifted woodworker, who enjoyed working on his home, bulldozing on his property and playing golf.   

Surviving in addition to his wife are six children, Heather Lanphere and her husband Peter Shoughrue, Lindsay Chamberlin and her husband Jeff, Katie Cauley and her husband Sean, Clifton Miller, Helena Miller and Nathan Miller, his former wife and the mother of his first three children, Hilary B. Miller, six grandchildren, Ethan Lanphere, Max Lanphere, Jackson Shoughrue, Liam Chamberlin, Alex Cauley and Jack Cauley, two sisters, Dorothy Sang and Ellen Miller, one brother, Charles Miller and his wife Marie, one niece and two nephews.

Nancy R. Casterline

Belmont, NY - Nancy R. Casterline, age 85, of Tucker Corners passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015, at the Highland Park Rehabilitation Center in Wellsville. She was born on March 13, 1930 in Hornell to George and Maybelle Manley HerrNecker. She was married to Merlin Glover who predecease her and later to John Casterline who also predeceased her.

 

Nancy was a long time resident of Belmont who graduated from Wellsville High School and attended art school in Boston, Massachusetts. She had worked Taggart and Son Insurance Company in Bath and later ran the office of the Allegany Bituminous in Tuckers Corners. Nancy retired from the Allegany County Department of Social Services working in what is now Job Tracks. She enjoyed crocheting and donating what she made to the Amity Rescue Squad to be raffled off. She enjoyed attending the monthly meeting of the Allegany County Highway Superintendents. Nancy will be remembered for her sense of humor.

 

Survivors include 2 sons, Hal Glover and Dorr Glover; 3 grandsons, Sean Glover, Andy Gloverand Josh Glover; 4 granddaughters, Morgan Glover, Christina Lyons, Sierra Schmidt and Breanna Schmidt; 5 great grandchildren, Dylon Kelly, Seth Glover, Jade Glover, Jesse Glover and Kade Glover; several nieces and nephews.

 

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, her 2 husbands and her sister Susan.

Marian G. Rossman

Belmont, NY - Marian G. Rossman, age 86, of State Route 19 South passed away on Monday, October 19, after a short illness. She was born in the Town of Amity on January 25, 1929 to Victor and Gladys Austin Brown. On November 23, 1947 she married Everett Rossman who survives.

Marian was a lifelong resident of the Belmont area who graduated from Belmont Central High School. She worked as a telephone operator then for the Candy Land Restaurant and later for Cornell Cooperative in the 4 H Department all in Belmont. Marian retired from the Village of Belmont as the Deputy Clerk after 17 years of service. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Belmont where she played the organ and piano. Marion enjoyed bowling and will be remembered as a family lady who loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving besides her husband are 2 daughters, Deb (Tracy) Slaughter and Dawn (Jeff) Stuck both of Belmont; 2 grandchildren, Jeffery (Crystal) Bogle of Olean and Brianne Bogle of Wellsville; 3 great grandchildren, Kiri Bogle, Elijah Bogle and Lillian Bogle; a brother, Donald (Joanne) Brown of Belmont as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marian was predeceased by her parents and her sister Coralie Fry.

John C. Walsh Sr.

Wellsville, NY - John C. Walsh Sr., age 80, of Early Street passed away on Saturday October 10, 2015 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born in Wellsville on October 28, 1934 to Walter and Jennie Hoyer Walsh. On July 6, 1957 in Brooklyn New York he married Adelina “Adele” Mendez who survives.

John was a former resident of Scio who graduated from Scio Central High School. In 1953 John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in Korea. He later moved to Brooklyn and was a carpenter in the ship yards and became a general contractor. In 1980 John and his family moved to Wellsville where he continued his general contracting business working into his seventies. John was member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the V F W Post 2530 both of Wellsville. He coached Little League Baseball in Brooklyn and coached Babe Ruth Baseball in Wellsville. John enjoyed gardening and watching sports especially football and hockey. He will be remembered as a hard working family man who had a good sense of humor.

Surviving besides his wife of Wellsville are 2 sons, John C. [Lorraine] Walsh Jr. of Allentown and Brian Walsh of Wellsville; a daughter, Danielle [Daniel] Walsh’ Barroso of Wellsville; 3 grandsons, John C.[ Kate] Walsh III, Kevin P. Walsh and Michael C. William D. “Butch” Swisher

Wellsville, NY - William D. “Butch” Swisher, age 51, of Rauber Street passed away at home on Tuesday October 6, 2105. He was born on October 9, 1963 in Chambersburg, PA., to Franklin and Nelda Kessinger Swisher. On July 20, 1985 he married Sarah Hart who survives.

Butch graduated from Wellsville High School in 1982. He had been a resident of Mount Wolf, PA., and worked for Air Gas in Harrisburg, PA., until 2014.

Survivors include his wife Sarah of Wellsville; his 3 daughters, Josephine Swisher of York, Pa., Rachel Swisher of York, PA., and Erin Swisher of Wellsville; 2 grandsons, Noah Wentz and Matthew Miller; a brother, Jeff (Sharon) Swisher; a sister, Deb (Charlie) Shipe; several nieces and nephews.

Dylon Ray Mitchell

Wellsville, NY - Dylon Ray Mitchell, 19, of 2066 Fulmer Valley Road died on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in the Town of Independence from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born November 24, 1995 in Wellsville.

Dylon was a 2015 graduate of Wellsville High School and the Natural Resources Program at B.O.C.E.S. in Belmont. He was employed at Baldwin Forest Products of Bolivar. He played football for Wellsville and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Presvitera Irene Euphrosyne (Raptis) Mentis

Gulf Shores, Alabama - Presvitera Irene Euphrosyne (Raptis) Mentis, 94, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. She was born in Johnsonburg, PA the daughter of the late George and Angeliki (Vlahos) Raptis and was raised in Wellsville, NY. In September 1945, she married Reverend Father Elias Mentis who survives.

Father Mentis and Irene lived and touched the hearts of many in Wellsville, Toronto, Rochester, Webster, Jamestown, Ithaca, Brandywine, MD, Sioux City, IA, Ocean City MD, Fairfax/Falls Church, VA and Fredericksburg, VA. Irene will be remembered for her love of others, generosity, kindness and faith.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Ann Mentis of Gulf Shores and Webster, NY; son, Peter, his wife Tina and their children, Elias, David and Euphrosyne of Fairfax, VA and their four grandchildren, Peter, Andreas, Alex and Lucas; son Charles, his wife Gail of Seneca Falls, NY and their two daughters, Elaine, her husband Michael and Ann Marie and one granddaughter, Mariana, sister, Leah of Rochester and a brother, James, and his wife Demmye of Wellsville, as well as several nieces & nephews. C. Clinton Bundy

Andover, NY - C. Clinton Bundy, 85, formerly of Railroad Avenue passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born September 16, 1930 in Allentown, the son of the late Clinton “Cash” and Helen (Sexton) Bundy.

Clint attended the Allentown Union School and served with the U. S. Army Air Force from 1945 to 1948. He was employed as a machinist at Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville and operated the Pro Shop at the Twin Hickory Golf Club in Hornell until he was 80 years old. He loved to play golf and was awarded a lifetime membership at Twin Hickory. He was a member and past president of the Andover Lions Club, a member of the Lynch / Burgett American Legion Post 397 and the Forty & Eight Voiture Locale 1006. He played slow-pitch softball, was an avid Buffalo Bills Fan and had formerly resided at Manor Hills in Wellsville.

He is survived by five daughters, Colleen Swift of Bolivar, Denise (Timothy) Elliott of Genesee, PA, Karen Baumgardner of Friendship, Lisa Bundy of Jamestown and Lynn (Timothy) Coan of Jamestown, 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren a brother, Vyle (Joan) Bundy of Andover, a very special friend, Sue Thomas of Wellsville, as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by two wives, Athelene Perry and Patricia (Zuk) Bundy, his longtime companion, Jean Patrick and four sisters, Zella, Norma, Phyllis and Janice.

Laura Hovey

Rexville, NY - Laura Hovey, 85, of 1337 McDonald Road passed away at home on Monday, September 28, 2015 with her family at her side. She was born August 21, 1930 in Franklin, NJ the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Pierson) Morgan. On August 26, 1949 in Franklin, NJ she married Elmer L. Hovey who predeceased her on February 10, 2003.

Laura was an accomplished seamstress and cook, who enjoyed gardening, canning and having friends and family stop to visit. She was formerly employed at Morley Shirt Company in Franklin, NJ, Plastoid Cable Company of Hamburg, NJ and for the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ. Most of all, she was a loving wife and mother.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Patricia Hovey of Dingmans Ferry, PA, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Spear and William Gullone of Rexville, eight grandchildren, many great grandchildren, a sister, Florence VanSkiver of Newton, NJ, as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her husband, by six sisters, Milly, Nora, Margaret, Elizabeth, Josephine and Anne, and by two brothers, Donald and Jackson.

Jeffery Donald Zenoski

Belmont, NY - Jeffery Donald Zenoski, 53, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends in his home at 40 Willets Avenue.  He courageously fought a year and a half long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born January 21, 1962 in Cuba, NY the son of the late Donald and Maureen (Monroe) Zenoski. On August 20, 1994 he married Christa Sauer on Rushford Lake "at sea", who survives with their two children.

 Jeff was a graduate of Belmont High School and Alfred State College. He was employed by the Allegany County Department of Public Works. He was a past Chief of the Belmont Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the NRA, the Belmont Sons of the American Legion, and the Belmont Conservation Club. He served on the Amity Town Board, he was Treasurer of the Allegany County GOP Republican Party, he was a former Little League and T-Ball Coach; as well as serving with several other organizations and committees throughout the years.

 Jeff was a loving son, husband and father. As a lifelong resident of Belmont he cherished his community and was a great friend to many. From his youth, Jeff was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and spending time with nature. Nothing made him happier than a day of four wheeling and an evening with family and friends at his cabin on the hill. Jeff gave back by plowing driveways throughout the community in the wintertime and assisting as a handyman to anyone in need. He loved spending time in his garage whether it be welding and fabricating many creative projects or just relaxing listening to his radio.

Jeff's sense of humor and easy going outlook on life drew people to him. You could always count on him for a good laugh or a Jeff-ism "That will make you hide your own Easter basket".

Surviving in addition to his wife, Christa, is his daughter, Allea Anne Zenoski of Belmont, his son, Brennon Wade Zenoski of Belmont, three brothers, Tim (Kari) Zenoski of Bloomfield, Mark (Tammy) Zenoski of Charlotte, NC, and Joe (Stacey) Zenoski of Hickory, NC, his sister, Kelli Zenoski Bartlett of Belmont, several nieces & nephews, including, Riley (Chance) Zenoski, Madison Zenoski, Emily and Ian Zenoski, Katie Bartlett, Anna, Maryn and Emma Zenoski, his father-in-law, Rickie (Christel) Sauer, and mother-in-law Nancy Fordyce and his beloved dogs Daisy and Oscar. Brian S. Warner

Cuba, NY - Brian S. Warner, age 49, of the Rawson Road passed away on Saturday September 12, 2015 at home following a short illness. He was born in Cuba on March 4, 1966 to George L. and Carol “Kaye” Ferris Warner. 

Brian was a former resident of Belmont who attended Belmont Central Schools. He enlisted in the US Army and served with the1st Cavalry Division from 1983 until his discharge in 1989. Brian was employed by Kelly Construction in Friendship and enjoyed the out of doorsespecially hunting. For 14 years Brian rode both bare back horses and bulls in rodeos and in hisspare time he loved working with his own horses. He was a member of the AMVETS Post # 1 in Cuba and had been a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his mother, Kaye Warner of Belmont; his son Brian S. Warner II of Cuba; a daughter, Chelcy Warner of Batavia; 2 brothers, Craig Warner and Steve Warner both of Belmont; 2 nieces, Katherin and Morgan Warner; a nephew, Matt Warner; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Brian was predeceased by his Father, George Warner Sr. and his brother George Warner Jr.

Patricia Tompkins

Penfield, NY - Patricia  Tompkins formerly of Scio, NY, passed away September 6, 2015 at 89 years of age.  Predeceased by her husband, Gerald Tompkins; parents, Nora and Walter Perry; sister, Ginger; and daughter, Sue Bellinger.

Survived by sisters June Ferguson of Wellsville, NY, Peggy (Bill) Plump of Milford, DE and Linda (Sonny) Taylor of St. David, AZ; sons Steven (Debbie) Tompkins of Penfield, NY and Scott (Robin) Tompkins of Indian Land, SC;  grandchildren Brian (Cassandra) Black; Corey (April) Black, Lindsey (Jeff) McNinch, Alex Tompkins and Brooke (Chaz) Gaspar;  8 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Pat was a career-long teacher, having taught in both the Belmont and Scio Central School Districts.

Doris Sprague Doty

Wellsville, NY - Doris Sprague Doty died on August 5, 2015 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY after a very short illness.  She was fortunate enough to fulfill her desire to live independently at home, with minimal assistance, until her admission to the hospital two days prior.

Doris was born on September 17, 1924 and was the only child of the late Harold and Nellie (Simon) Sprague of Dansville, NY.  She is survived by her three children, Don Pender and his wife Linda, Carol Winig and her husband Steven and Scott Pender and his wife Sindi all of whom live in Florida. She also has five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was predeceased by her grandson Jonathan Pender, who we like to think escorted her, along with Lucy her cat, as she left this world to enter the next. She is also survived by Bess Pender, her loving daughter-in-law.

Doris had an illustrious career teaching primarily kindergarten and occasionally first grade. She began her teaching career in Niagara Falls as a new college graduate. She is best known and fondly remembered by many former students in Dansville who would still recognize her and call out a “hello and you were my favorite teacher!”  Mom was very creative in her teaching methods and made learning a unique experience that created lifelong learning habits for her young students.  She moved to Florida in 1969 and while teaching kindergarten in the Broward County School System, her lesson plans were recognized for their creativity and were incorporated into Florida State University’s College of Education Curriculum as a model.

Doris married her college sweetheart, Dr. Mike Doty, and left Florida to move to Wellsville in 1975. She was fortunate enough to have made an incredible amount of wonderful friends in Wellsville. Those friends are the reason she was able to staunchly maintain the independent lifestyle that was so important to her, and for that, the family thanks you.

Joyce Leonard Weimer

Joyce Leonard Weimer completed the journey home to heaven on September 5, 2015 after five years of breast cancer.  She was born December 14, 1951, married to Alyn Weimer on Friday, March 13, 1970.

When she was 21 when she asked Jesus to be her Savior.  That became the center of her life from then on.  They raised two beautiful children, Tricia Herritt (Richard) Andover, NY and Ryan Weimer (Mary) Scio, NY who added to the family beloved grandchildren Wesley, Olivia & Carolyn Herritt and Jack and Benjamin Weimer.

She graduated from Bolivar Central, Rochester Business Institute and received her bachelor degree from SUNY Empire State College while working and raising her family.

Throughout her life she was very active through her church, community service, employment, music, hobbies, reading, and people.  Joyce could be counted on for fund raising from marching band to her United Way work.  She was introduced the income tax VITA/EITC program to Allegany County United Way.  She served statewide on CSEA Board of Directors and was state Insurance Chair for 25 years.  While employed at Alfred State College for 37 years, she worked on both the Wellsville and Alfred Campuses.  The Student Activities Center was her longest involvement organizing activities and the Wellsville Intramural program.  She completed her career as the Director of International Education recruiting in Southeast Asia and Mexico for international students as well as coordinated on campus regulations and study abroad programs.  For three years she organized and hosted the downtown Children’s International Festival.  Throughout her career she was active on several committees at Alfred such as Cultural Arts, Summer Orientation Co-Chair, Middle States, EAP Director, former CSEA union president and in other offices.  Her involvement in organizations was all about connecting people to benefits, at no cost when possible.

She is also survived by a brother James Leonard (Sherry)Little Genesee  and their children Jammie Swanson (Thomas) Hamlin, NY; Pelle Ayers (Jerry) LeRoy, NY; Tara Leonard (Spencerport); sister-in-law Joan Tucker, Scio, NY, her children Troy Tucker (Rhonda) Danielsville, PA; Tanya Scholla (Doug) Scio, NY and her 103 year old mother-in-law Margaret Weimer.  Also surviving are Joyce’s Aunt Marion Barney, Hallsport, NY, and Uncle Art Leonard, Green Valley, AZ plus several cousins, nieces and nephews.  Many special friends, Rock Lake Ontario family and her church families at the Allentown United Methodist Church and at the Wellsville C&MA Church.  Her life was blessed.

Michael Scott Burdick

Wellsville, NY - Michael Scott Burdick, 55, of 46 N. Broad Street passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born July 3, 1960 in Wellsville, the son of Francis D. And Connie M. (Lee) Burdick.

Mike was a lifelong resident of Wellsville and was an avid NASCAR and Buffalo Bills fan. He was formerly employed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville.

He is survived by his partner, Debra Ward of Wellsville, two daughters, Angela Burdick of Friendship and Jessica (Kyle) Billings of England, one  granddaughter, Chelsea Chamberlain, two grandsons, Ryan and Gavin Billings, two sisters, Lynn Burdick and Marsha (Doug) Spence, both of Wellsville, three half brothers, John (Nancy) Burdick of Wellsville, Frank (Nancy) Burdick of Olean and Jason (Ashley) Moultrup of Wellsville as well as several nieces & nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Francis, his mother, Connie Moultrup, and three half-brothers, Bobby and Kenny Burdick and Scott Schaffer.

Dorothy J. Hall

Wellsville, NY - Dorothy J. Hall, 83, of 1401 Alma Hill Road passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center with her family at her side. She was born September 26, 1931 in Knoxville, PA the daughter of the late Clyde and Reba (Decker) Rarick. On May 19, 1948 in Genesee, PA she married Donald Hall Sr. who predeceased her on October 21, 2010.

She is survived by four sons, Donald (Deb) Hall of Wellsville, Ronald (Edith) Hall of Vestal, Dennis Hall of Friendship and Glenn (Cindy) Hall of Alma, four daughters, Gloria (Bill) Hamlin of Wellsville, Diane (Loren) Caward of Andover, Denise Perkins of Cuba and Crystal (Jason) Childs of Olean, 25 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, a brother, Gene Rarick of Floral City, FL, a sister, Florence Buckley of Bingham Center, PA and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a son, Vernon Hall and a brother, Billy Rarick.

Nancy M. Sutley

Whitesville, NY - Nancy M. Sutley, 68, of 934 Commercial Avenue passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Rochester General Hospital with her family at her side. She was born March 25, 1947 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Mark and Louise “Midge” (Bieser) Nesbit. On June 27, 1965 in Whitesville she married Michael G. Sutley who survives.

Nancy was a lifelong resident of Whitesville and attended Whitesville Central School. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Agway in Whitesville for many years and later was a nurse’s aide for Highland Park Rehab & Nursing Center in Wellsville. She served as the Town Supervisor for the Town of Independence from 2000 to 2009. She was a charter member of the Independence Rescue Squad and a member of the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a past president and current treasurer of the Allegany County Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Ladies Auxiliary and a member and current treasurer of the Southwestern Association of Volunteer Fireman, Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling; loved her dogs and was an honored volunteer for the Allegany County Office for the Aging. She was a member and youth group leader for the Living Hope Center in Whitesville.

Surviving in addition to her husband is one son, James (Julie) Sutley of Whitesville, a brother, Walter (Karen) Nesbit of Jasper, AL, three sisters, Patricia (Gene) Ransom of Conesus, Paula Ransom of Whitesville and Frances McCallister of Whitesville, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a sister, Marlene Nesbit.

Laran N. Ives

Wellsville, NY - Laran N. Ives, 65, of 25 Trapping Brook Road passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at home following a brief illness. He was born October 12, 1949 in Wellsville, the son of the late Norman L. and Lela (Ellsworth) Ives. On September 1, 1984 in Wellsville he married Joann Brown who survives.

Laran was a 1969 graduate of Wellsville High School. He was employed by Woodlawn Cemetery in Wellsville for 13 years and for the Immaculate Conception Church and School for the past 25 years. He retired in October of 2014, but returned to be the groundskeeper for Immaculate Conception. He was a member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge # 1495, the Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601, the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 702 and the V.F.W Post #2530 Men’s Auxiliary. He enjoyed traveling, Chinese auctions, and bowling. He bowled for several teams over the years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and will be sadly missed by his ICS family.

Surviving in addition to his wife Joann, is a daughter, Stacy (Ives) Inzana of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, a step-daughter, Theresa (Wayne) Tedrow of Linwood, WA, four beloved grandchildren, A. J., Christian, Hunter and Hayden, a brother, Richard (Bonnie) Ives of Wellsville, a sister, Norlene Bromley of Bradford, PA, as well as several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Phyllis J. Benjamin

Belmont, NY - Phyllis J. Benjamin, age 85, of old State Road passed away on Friday August 14, 2015 at the Hornell Gardens in Hornell. She was born on August 3, 1930 in Bolivar to Lyle and Helen Cartwright Benjamin.

Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Belmont who graduated from Belmont Central High School. She was a 45 year employee of the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Belmont retiring as the Home Economics Secretary and Association Bookkeeper. Phyllis was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Belmont where she enjoyed 6 decades of perfect attendance at Sunday School. She served her church as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary, Church Financial Secretary and Awana Leader. Her hobbies include photography, reading and sewing.

Phyllis is survived by her brother Richard (Shirley) Benjamin of Belmont; 2 sisters, Bernita Comstock of Belmont and Joanne Mason of Belmont; a foster son, Brett (Heidi) Ellsessor and their 6 children of Belfast; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents; a brother Keith Benjamin; 3 sisters, Suzanne Benjamin, Elaine Jewell and Esther Hammond; 3 brother in laws, Ken Hammond, Edwin Comstock Jr. and Douglas Mason; a sister in law, Elizabeth Benjamin.

Alvin G. Whitesell

Wellsville, NY - Alvin G. Whitesell, age 87, of the Stannards Road passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the Highland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born on August 16, 1927 in Whitesville to George W. and Alice Baker Whitesell. On February 25, 1949 in Wellsville he married Maxine Morrison who survives.

Alvin was a long time resident of the Wellsville who served in the United States Armed Forces. He had worked for Walter Babbitt for many years and later helped his nephew cut firewood. Alvin enjoyed hunting and being with his family.

Besides his wife Alvin is survived by 4 sons; Gerald (Mary) Whitesell of Kodak, TN., Tom (Lottie) Whitesell of Johnsonburg, PA., Randy (Sylvia) Whitesell of Andover and Danny Whitesell of Wellsville; 2 daughters, Cindy (Gary) Smith of Akron, OH. And Kay (Thomas) Simkins of East Stroudsburg, PA.; 13 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren; a brother, Glen Whitesell of Erin; 2 sisters, Goldie Keough of Elmira Heights and Reva (Carl) Clark of Andover; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alvin was predeceased by 5 brothers and 6 sisters.

Roberta H. Corcoran

Wellsville, NY - Roberta H. Corcoran of North Franklin Street passed away on March 1, 2015 at the Highland Health Care Center in Wellsville. She was born on June 30, 1931 in El Paso, Texas to Robert and Mildred Bartlett.

Roberta graduated from Wellsville High School in 1948. She worked for W.T. Grant in Wellsville as the head of their credit department. She later retired in 1993 from the Department of Motor Vehicles in Belmont as the Supervisor after over 20 years of service. Roberta was a founding member of the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She was a dedicated member who would also do the blood runs to Hornell when there was a need after an accident. She was a member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary who made and sold jams and jellies at the annual Country Fair and continued to support the Hospital thru her Relay for Life team named Grannie’s Gang. Roberta’s passion was writing and was a founding member of the Creative Writers of the Southern Tier. She wrote poetry, plays and personal narrative essays.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Roberta (Joseph) Corcoran Andrasik of Fredonia and Kathleen Corcoran of Everett, Washington; a son James Corcoran of Wellsville; 3 brothers, Richard Bartlett of Wellsville, Ronald (Lori) Bartlett of North Carolina and Raymond (Shirley) Bartlett of Ontario, Canada; 2 sisters, Mildred Hannigan of Wellsville and Barbara Weatherell of Friendship; several nieces and nephews.

Roberta was predeceased by a son Edward Corcoran; a daughter Teresa Decker and a brother, Roger Bartlett.
