Wellsville, NY - Sandra Lunn "Ma Dill" Dillie of McDowell Ave. passed away on Saturday January 23 at the Jones Memorial Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was born on April 3, 1935 to Ralph Eugene and Barbara York Lunn
Sandy graduated from Wellsville High School and later went to work for the school system. She started as a teacher's aid and went on to secretarial duties and then became attendance supervisor and truant officer for a total of 25 years of service. Sandy was also on the school board for nine years where she had served as president. Sandy developed her business sense as owner and CEO of Dillie Service and Supply Company. She was involved in the community by volunteering as a Cub Scout Den Leader, Jones Memorial Hospital Volunteer, member of the Wellsville Fire Department Auxiliary, Sunday school teacher at the Congregational Church and volleyball statistician for both the girls and the boy's teams at Wellsville High School. She showed her creative talents through various talent endeavors such as costume designer and back stage coordinator at the Wellsville High School plays. Sandy will also be remembered as a sometimes involuntary participant of the Lions Club Minstrel Show. Many knew her for her cooking and baking such as "Grandmother York's Cinnamon Buns" a recipe she mastered at age 13.
Survivors include: two sons, Donald "Buzz" Dillie of Indian Rocks Beach, FL., and Michael "Barney" Dillie of Wellsville; three daughters, Kerry (David) Mette of Waterloo, Lori (Claude) Nieman of New Milford, CT., and Barbara Raybon of Wellsville; 6 grandchildren, Sarah and Karin Dillie; EN 1 Kenneth Dillie Nieman, Timothy and Benjamyn Nieman; and Sean Michael Raybon; 2 sisters, Roxanne (Ron) Flurschutz of Rochester and Kaaren Monroe of Wellsville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son Dean Garry Dillie.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday January 28 from 7-9 pm and on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 am at the First Congregational Church on North Main Street in Wellsville with Rev. Ralph Eastlack presiding. Her burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to a scholarship established in Sandy's name for "future teachers" at the Wellsville Central Schools in care of Dennis Dahlgren, 126 West State Street Wellsville, NY. 14895.
