Wellsville - Donald Clifford Figenscher age 73 died peacefully Wednesday November 11th surrounded by family and friends after a lengthy illness He was born on January 2, 1936 in Canandaigua the only child of Flora B. and Leo Figenscher. He graduated from Clarkson College in 1958 with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked at Air Preheater in Wellsville for 39 years in the sales division and enjoyed travel in later years to the Pacific Rim. He was licensed to practice as a professional engineer in New York State. Don married Diana Bell in the Immaculate Conception Church on August 29, 1959. They spent the next 2 years at Fort Knox, KY. while he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Don was an avid sportsman enjoying fly fishing and game bird hunting. His grandchildren shared his enthusiasm for the county side and he enjoyed showing them all his favorite places. He belonged to many wildlife organizations including Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was a member of the Wellsville Lions Club, Elks Club, Rod and Gun Club and was a long time member of the Wellsville County Club. Community minded he was a dedicated member of the Jones Memorial Board of Directors and for many years he sat on the village planning board of appeals. He had many hobbies one of which was cooking. Every family holiday meal was a special event and every picnic on Shear Road was a gourmet treat.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years the former Diana Bell, two children, Susan (Gary) Morawiec of Chesapeake, VA. and Mark (Lynne) Figenscher of Deland, FL.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey and Emily Morawiec and Colin and Tyler Figenscher. A Brother in law Robert Bell of Campbell, CA. and a sister in law Laura Bell of Santa Clara, CA. and their children, Mary Lynn Burke and Robert Bell; a cousin Bruce (Judy) Wadsworth of Rochester and many relatives from the Canandaigua and Rochester areas.
Friends are invited to call on Friday November 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 am in the Immaculate Conception Church with Monsignor Vincent Becker as Celebrant. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Jones Memorial Hospital, David A. Howe Library or the SPCA.
