Marlene A. Lewis

Friendship, NY - Marlene A. Lewis, 74, of 6071 Byrnes Hill Road passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Buffalo General Hospital with her family at her side. She was born July 16, 1943 in Richburg, the daughter of the late Ross and Inez (Butts) Shelley. On November 24, 1961 in Belmont she married Ronald L. Lewis who survives. 

Marlene was a 1961 graduate of Belmont High School. She was a long time employee of K-Mart in Wellsville, retiring in 1997. She was a faithful member of the Belmont First Baptist Church. She was a loving mother not only to her own children, but to many children in her extended family and community. 

Surviving in addition to her husband, are seven children, Alan Lewis of Friendship, Mark Lewis of Angelica, Gary (Joan) Lewis of Mineral Springs, NC, Ross (Kylene) Lewis of Moore, SC, Lisa (Eric) Jeske of Penrose, CO, Jennifer Presor of Prattville, AL, and Jessica (Dana) Hand of Bradford, NY, 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a brother, Greg Shelley, and his companion Mike Feldbauer of Belmont, two sisters, Barbara (Charles) Bliven of Can, and Donna Perkins of West Clarksville, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by  two brothers, Richard and Douglas Shelley, and one sister, Marilyn Shelley.

Kelly Elizabeth Cooney

Whitesville, NY - Kelly Elizabeth Cooney, 45, of 885 Old Cryder Road passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. She was born on January 19, 1973 in Wellsville, the daughter of James Patrick and Charlotte Isabelle (Coleman) Cooney. 

Kelly was a 1991 graduate of Whitesville Central School. She was employed at Allegany Arc in Wellsville for 20 years. She enjoyed being a member of the Secret Pal Club for many years and loved Golden Retrievers.

She is survived by her father of Genesee and Wellsville, her mother of Whitesville, three brothers, Ronald (Candy) Cooney of Ulysses, John (Mary) Cooney of Manorville, NY, and Dennis (Alison) Cooney of Fullerton, CA, two sisters, Peggy Cooney of Syracuse, and Patricia Cooney of Belmont, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and her Golden Retriever and best pal, Maggie.

Marjorie L. Erdmann

Whitesville, NY - Marjorie L. Erdmann, 73, of 522 Main Street, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with her family at her side. She was born September 12, 1944, in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Eugene and Lois (Harris) Bledsoe. On December 14, 1963 in Whitesville she married Larry W. Erdmann who survives.

Marjorie was a 1962 graduate of Whitesville High School and graduated as a licensed practical nurse from St. Francis School of Nursing in Olean. She was formerly employed at Mary's Nursing Home in Wellsville, and the Machias Nursing Home. The family moved back to Whitesville from Cattaraugus County in 1973 and she continued her career at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville and at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She drove  school bus for Whitesville Central School for many years. She was a co-leader of the Jay Gee's 4-H Club in Whitesville, and was very active with the Allegany County Fair for many years. She was a life member of the Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president, secretary, treasurer and historian , a member of the Yorks Corners Grange, the Independence Ambulance Corps, where she served as treasurer, the Whitesville Alumni Association where she served as treasurer, she was the founder of the Red Hat Chapter in Whitesville, and was named “Whitesville Citizen of the Year” in 1988. She enjoyed doing word search, Sunday night popcorn, camping, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband, is a daughter, Beth (Mike) Plaisted, three sons, Kevin (Ellen) Erdmann, Jeffrey (Stacey) Erdmann, and Dennis (Julie) Erdmann, all of Whitesville; eight grandchildren, Brock, Emily, Bryce, Ryan Plaisted, Karlee, Jacob, Jessica, and Lucas, 3 step-grandchildren, Michael Plaisted, Samantha (Douglas) George, and Kayla Plaisted, a sister, Vickie (Nate) Scott of Whitesville, a brother, Charles E. Bledsoe of Wellsville, a sister-in-law, Diane Bledsoe of Rexville, brother-in-law Robert (Toni) Erdmann of Mansfield, NY; two uncles, cousins, several nieces and nephews, and many, many special friends.

Terry W. Sweeney

Wellsville, NY - Terry W. Sweeney, 65, of 191 Williams Avenue, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. He was born August 12, 1952 in Wellsville, the son of the late Edward and Jean (Lavin) Sweeney. On September 4, 1976 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, he married Patricia Graham, who survives.

Terry was a 1970 graduate of Wellsville High School and attended Alfred State College – School of Applied Technology in Wellsville. He was employed at Dresser-Rand Corporation in Wellsville for many years, retiring in 2015. At the time of his death, he was employed by Fisher's Pharmacy in Wellsville. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 702 in Wellsville, the Wellsville Moose Lodge 601, and the Wellsville Country Club. He loved to golf, and was proud of his “hole in one,” he also enjoyed bowling and spending time at the lake. He really enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and treasured his time with his daughter Laura.  

Surviving in addition to his wife, is one daughter, Laura (Zach Hebda) Sweeney of West Chester, Ohio, a sister, Deborah (David) Raymer of Galeton, PA, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents, by one niece, one nephew, and his mother and father-in-law, James and Mary Elizabeth Graham.

Norma J. Taylor

Allentown, NY - Norma J. Taylor, 79, of 1913 White Hill Road passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at home with her family at her side. She was born January 17, 1939 in Andover, the daughter of the Late Ronald and Bertha (Brown) Stephens. On February 1, 1958 in Alma she married Phillip A. Taylor who predeceased her on November 26, 2016.

Norma was raised in Allentown and was a graduate of the Allentown Union High School. She was formerly employed at the Allentown School, Valley Manor Proprietary Home in Allentown, and at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville for 25 years. She was a member of the Allentown Volunteer Fire Department and the Allentown United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling with Phil, playing bingo, and loved spending time with her family and their friends. 

She is survived by a son, Shaun (Ezura) Taylor of Allentown, a daughter, Molly Stirk of Wellsville, a grandson, Gregory (Jen) Taylor of Scio, a granddaughter, Ashley Taylor of Allentown, two sisters, Joyce Shields of Bolivar and Judy Stephens of Penfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jerry A. Renwand

Canaseraga, NY/ Boston, MA - Jerry A. Renwand, 58, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 in Boston. He was born December 2, 1959 in Hornell the son of James A. and Kathryn (Parker) Renwand Sr.

Jerry was raised in Canaseraga and attended Canaseraga Central School. He was a self employed carpenter in the Canaseraga area before moving to Boston. He was a Buffalo Bills fan and was a passionate and knowledgeable fan of Classic Rock. Jerry had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by his family and many friends. 

He is survived by a son, Daniel J. (Jessica) Renwand of Elmira, two grandchildren, Keagan and Kaylee Renwand, his mother, Kathryn Renwand of Alfred Station, one brother, James (Wendy) Renwand of Greenwood, two sisters, Carla (Gerry) Brzezinski of Livonia, and Cindy (Buddy) Getman of Alfred Station, one aunt, many beloved nieces, nephews, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his father, a brother, Joseph Renwand, and a sister Carol Carpenter.

Robert Hall McNinch

Belmont, NY - Robert Hall McNinch, age 99, passed away on Thursday, April 19 , 2018 at the Manor Hills in Wellsville. He was born on January 30, 1919 on the family farm in Belmont to Harry T. and Florence Hall McNinch. On July 19, 1941 in Fleming he married Elizabeth Huey who predeceased him one year ago to the day on April 19, 2017.

Robert was born on the farm in Belmont where lived for 95 years. Along with his wife they wintered in Florida from 1975 until 2000 first in Fort Myers and later in Lakeland. He was a dairy and poultry farmer for 33 years and the took a job at the former Citizens National Bank as the Farm Loan Officer retiring from Key Bank as the Branch Manager in Belmont. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Belmont F&AM, charter member of the Belmont Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, a member of the Archaeological Society of Ohio, Sons of the American Revolution, Dairyman's League, and the Andover Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder. In 1961 he was the recipient of the Hugh  D. Chamberlain Soil Conservation Farmer of the Year. He was a member of the former Belmont Presbyterian Church and as a member of the Men's Club that helped build the Parish Hall. He served as Justice of the Peace and Supervisor for the Town of Amity. He also served as a member of the first Allegany County Board of Legislators for 2 terms. He and his wife enjoyed traveling cross country in their motor home staying at 13 different Elder hostels. 

Survivors include a daughter, Meredith (David)  Chilson of Belmont; 2 granddaughters, Denise Chilson of Victor and Jennifer (Sean)  McMahon of  Penfield; 7 grandchildren, Gates Robert McMahon, Emma Chilson-Cline, Christopher Robert Chilson- Cline, Aidan McMahon, Jacob Chilson- Cline, Faith McMahon, and Maia McMahon; many nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, James T., John G.,Louis A., Harry T. , Jr.; sisters Louise A. Morris, and Mary I. Rhodes.

Deborah J. “Debbie” Johnson

Wellsville, NY - Deborah J. “Debbie” Johnson, age 60 of Seneca Street passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 8, 1957 in Wellsville to Richard and Clara Moore Johnson.

Debbie was a life long resident of Wellsville who had worked as a home health care aide, later as a CNA at Highland Health Care Center, and retired from there as supervisor of house keeping. For a time she had attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church and her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She is survived by a son Jonathan Armstrong; 2 daughters, Tracy (Richard)  Ahrens, and Lori (Carl Dandridge)  Armstrong all of Wellsville; 6 grandchildren, Justice Bremiller, Destiny Bremiller, Melody Ahrens, Pride Brantley, Harmony Brantley, and Patience Brantley; a brother, Michael Johnson of Kentucky; 2 sisters, Michele (John)  Sheridan of Wellsville, and Wanda Johnson of Wellsville; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Bruce Johnson;  a sister, Beverly Armstrong.

Myrna C. Petrelli

Wellsville, NY - Myrna C. Petrelli, 81, of 199 School Street passed away on Saturday April 14, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 24, 1936 in Hornell, the daughter of the late Ronald and Genevieve (Clark) Fairbrother. On November 18, 1967 at St. Ann's Church in Hornell she married Dominick Petrelli who survives. 

Myrna was raised in Hornell and was a 1955 graduate of Hornell High School. She was first employed at Corbin's Woodworking in Hornell, and later for Alfred State College. In August of 1967 she and Dominick moved to Wellsville, and she began her career at Wellsville Central School. She retired on August 4, 1999 as the Secretary to the Director of Pupil Personal Services. She was an avid flower gardener, and birdwatcher. She enjoyed  reading, watching the Buffalo Sabres, and the New York Yankees. 

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Roger (Jill) Petersen and Andrew Petrelli, both of Wellsville, three step-grandsons, Aaron (Mary) Hess, Dustin (Florina) Hess, and Christian Hess, two sisters-in-law, Santa (Walt) Cleveland, and Mary Petrelli, both of Hornell, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband, Roger Petersen, and a son, Jeffrey A. Petersen.

Edward J. Donovan

Wellsville, NY - Edward J. Donovan, 58, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at home from natural causes. He was born on April 12, 1959 in Hornell, the son of the late William F. and Catherine (Lynch) Donovan Sr.

Ed was a 1977 graduate of Wellsville High School and a graduate of the Electrician Program at  Alfred State College - School of Applied Technology in Wellsville. He was first employed  working construction for Harold Ford Inc., he later was the assistant manager at Rauber's Furniture Store in Wellsville for many years, and ended his career at Donovan's Eastern Supply in Olean. Ed was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, and a generous member and former “Elk of the Year” of the Wellsville Elks Lodge # 1495. 

He is survived by two brothers, William F. Donovan Jr. of Olean, and Charles P. (Julie) Donovan of Brentwood, TN, a sister, Mary O. (Mike) Rotolo of North Royalton, OH, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gregory F. Bessette

Friendship, NY - Gregory F. Bessette, 60, of 7777 Searles Road passed away at home on Friday, March 23, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born December 24, 1957 in Cuba, the son of Howard and Barbara (Stark) Bessette.   

Greg was a 1977 graduate of the Belmont Central High School. While in High School he worked for the former Felix's Motors in Belmont, and upon graduating he entered the US Navy. He proudly served his country until his discharge in 1980. While in the service he attended Old Dominion University and holds three degrees from Alfred State College in the Automotive Trades. After graduating from Alfred he began a career in selling automotive parts in Wellsville and later in Jamestown. He retired from Advanced Auto Parts as a Supervising Manager after 20 years of service at various locations. He enjoyed camping with his friends and competing with the atlatl and doing flint knapping. Most of all he loved being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and making everyone laugh.

He is survived by his loving companion, Linda Brundage, his mother, Barbara Cronk; his children, Elizabeth (Paul) Dimpfl, Suzzanah Bessette, Jennifer Jimmerson, Karen Finnemore, and Donald Brundage; his brothers and sisters, Beverly (Howard) Costley, Michael Bessette, James (Adenia) Bessette, Charles (Valerie) Bessette, Joseph (Lisa) Bessette, Mike (Jodi) Cronk, Melissa (Mike) Belden, Julie (Kevin) Borden, and Karen (Brett) Comstock; nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, his dog Baxter, and Clem his goat. He was predeceased by his father, Howard and his step father, Robert Cronk.

Regina Oleksiak

Wellsville, NY - Regina Oleksiak was born in Cheektowaga NY to Stephen and Agnes (Rogacki) Kwiatkowski. She was baptized and was a devout member of St John Gualbert's Roman Catholic Church. She graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy in 1940 and went on to Bryant Business School graduating in 1942. Jean was a lifelong bookkeeper enjoying the certainty of numbers. When she passed away she was the office manager  for Genesee Metal Products of Wellsville,

In 1946 Jean married Richard F. Oleksiak and they eventually settled in Amherst, NY where they raised three children. Jean gave a great deal of her time to many local charities. They were able to travel extensively throughout the world and in doing so earned more than one Pan Am Circumnavigation award. Closer to home Jean was an avid and championship golfer at Brookfield Country Club. She was also a member of the golf courses, Bradford, PA and Wellsville, NY.

Jean moved to Wellsville in 1973 and eventually to Olean NY. In 2015 she moved into Manor Hills after a bad fall. She continued to work until 94, remarkably, and was loved by the customers and vendors of Genesee Metal, Inc. 

Jean was predeceased by her ex-husband . She is survived by three children Richard (Alison) Oleksiak of Toronto, Michael Oleksiak of Wellsville and Jan Oleksiak (Gregory Clarke) of Mertztown, PA, and her sister Christine Lisiecki of Little River, SC. There are five grandchildren and two great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Martha Ann (Matt) Mueller

Alfred, NY - Martha Ann (Matt) Mueller, Associate Librarian Emerita - 1934 – 2018 Long time Librarian Retiree Martha Mueller passed away on April 4, 2018.  “Matt” as her friends knew her was a regular at many Alfred University functions and was a true Saxon supporter. She was an avid team trivia competitor and a supporter of all of the performing arts programs.   She joined the NYS College of Ceramics on March 1, 1969 and retired on August 31, 1994.  She was born and raised in Joplin, MO and graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS in Education and then received her MS in Library Science from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie-Mellon) in 1958.  A world traveler, Matt visited over 20 foreign countries and all of the 48 lower states prior to joining the College of Ceramics.  She brought with her an interesting mix of experiences having worked as a Junior HS English Teacher, a Researcher/Librarian for an investment-banking firm on Wall Street, and as a College Librarian.  For two years, she lived and worked in Australia at the National Library of Australia in Canberra before returning to the United States and assuming a position as the Head of the Serial Department at the Kresge Library at Oakland University in Rochester, MI.  She was predeceased by her sister Jeanne Lewin and had no other living relatives.  At her request, no services are planned at this time.

Marjorie J. Cline

Hallsport, NY - Marjorie J. Cline, 91, formerly of 2183 Hallsport Road went to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Jones Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on November 14, 1926 in the Town of Independence, the daughter of the late Milford and Florence (Cleveland) Kellogg. On October 4, 1946 in Wellsville she married Wayne O. Cline who predeceased her on October 28, 1999.
 
She is survived by four daughters, Linda Smith of Cuba, and her children, Pam (Travis) Pastorius of Belfast, and Jamie (Nikki) Cifersky of North Ridgeville, Ohio,  Luci (Tim) Callaghan of Ithaca, and their children, Brett (Thalisa) Callaghan of Encinitas, CA, Ryan Callaghan of Denver, CO, and Kevin Callaghan of Overland Park, KS, Lois (Rick) Whitney of Bolivar, Luanne J. Cline of Genesee, PA, a son, Lynn Cline of Hallsport, and his children, Katie (Thomas) Ubben of Lowell, AK, Tyler Cline of Williamsville, and Evan Cline of Buffalo, a daughter-in-law, Judy Hoberg of Kingsport, TN, and her daughter, Terri (Steven) Maxwell of Kingsport, TN, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one on the way, three great-great grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, Evelyn Kellogg, Ruth (Harry) Carney, and Franny Gillan, two brothers-in-law, Lester (Lola) Cline, and Mike (Marie) Cline, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents by a son, Larry Cline, a son-in-law, Paul Smith, and four brothers, Richard, Bernard, Robert, and Dale Kellogg.

Marge dearly loved every one of her grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them all throughout the years. She enjoyed tending her flowers and garden. She took many walks and enjoyed making neighborhood visits on her scooter. She always looked forward to the extended family reunions, and hosted many of the Kellogg reunions. Her many family photos brought her much comfort at home, Manor Hills and Highland Park. She took satisfaction in working hard to care for her family, canning, freezing, and sewing. She was a member of the Hallsport Christian Church and the Cherry Circle Club in Whitesville. She could be heard in the mornings praying by her bedside for all her children.

Dorothy F. Carlosh

Whitesville, NY - Dorothy F. Carlosh, 96, of 853 Snow Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on October 22, 1921 in Poland, NY, the daughter of the late Fred and Bertha (Hines) Forrest. On June 23, 1946 in Poland she married John Carlosh who predeceased her on April 13, 1999.

Dorothy graduated from Poland Central School in 1939 and Plattsburg State Teachers College in 1943. She and John moved to Whitesville in 1952. Dorothy taught home economics at Whitesville Central School for many years, retiring in 1972. She enjoyed camping, square-dancing, visiting with friends and being an active member of the Whitesville community. She played the organ  for the Whitesville United Methodist Church for over 60 years.

Dorothy was a beloved mother, gramma, and great-gramma. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, baking cookies, bread, and sharing stories over a piece of her favorite chocolate or while working on a puzzle. 

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Nancy Meehan, her son-in-law William Meehan Sr.,   grandchildren, William (Margeurite) Meehan Jr., Wendy (Shawn) Swain, Joseph (Darleen) Meehan, Cheryl (Daniel) Brimmer, and John (Kristen) Carlosh, great-grandchildren, Forest, Amanda, Thomas, Dillon, Sylvia, and Madeline, step great-grandchildren, Nate and Mackenzie, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in addition to her parents and husband, by a son, John A. Carlosh Jr., a sister, Helen Hampston, and a brother, Robert Forrest.

Friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Whitesville United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow visitation on Saturday at 3:00 pm with Rev. Audine M. Ashline

Wellsville, NY - Audine M. Ashline, age 92 of State Route 19, passed away on Monday April 2, 2018 at the Highland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on December 22, 1925 in Clarion County Pennsylvania to Leroy and Lela Lewis Say. On April 4, 1959 in Genesee Pennsylvania she married Eugene Ashline who survives.

Audine graduated from Genesee High School in 1943 and from the Elmira Business School. She worked at Worthington in Wellsville and retired from the First Trust Union Bank also of Wellsville. She and her husband where active long time members of the Stannards United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and was always interested in her family.

Surviving in addition to her husband, Eugene, is a brother, Derwood (Rita) Say of Cuba; two sisters, Caryl (John) Vaklyes of Palmyra, PA, and Katy (David) Carrier of Little Valley, NY, two nieces, Kristi (Sean) Beggs of Pittsburgh, PA, and Erin Vaklyes of Palmyra, PA, a nephew, Ryan (Jennifer) English of Port Charlotte, Florida, five great nieces, Brittany, Anna, Danielle, Rachael, and Kylie.

William A. “Bill” Edwards

Angelica, NY - William A. “Bill” Edwards, age 69, of the Homer Road passed away on Sunday, April 1,2018 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell. He was born on July 28, 1948 in Bradford Pennsylvania to Wayne and Agnes Cornelius Edwards. On November 17, 2001 in Willing he married Marilyn Skillman who survives.

Bill graduated from Limestone High School in 1967. After graduation he entered the US Army and served in Korea and in Vietnam until being discharged in 1970. He settled in the Denver Colorado area where he worked for several companies including the Timpte Corporation, and had also worked as a maintenance supervisor. In 2002 he was working in Rochester for the Farash Company maintaining their apartment complexes. In 2013 he and Marilyn made their home in Angelica. Bill had been a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and had attended Bible Study at The Way Ministry in Wellsville and Rochester. He loved to fish and enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting and computer programming.

Survivors include: his wife;  step daughters, Amanda (Chad)  Sibble of Wellsville, and Samantha McGee of Greenhurst; 4 step grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Hugo)  Edwards-Sanchez of Houston, Texas; a brother, Carl (Criss)  Edwards of Limestone; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation and friends are invited to attend a grave side service with military honors on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11 am in the McKeen Memorial Park in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
