Wellsville, NY - M. Lois Elliott of East Genesee Street passed on to her new life surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at home. She was born in Geneva on January16, 1928 to Patrick and Gertrude O'Malley Hennessy. Lois married R. Wayne Elliott at Hempstead Long Island who predeceased her on February 24, 2006 after 54 years of marriage.

Lois graduated from St Francis de Sale High School in Geneva and later from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Elmira. She then served in the US Air Force as a second Lieutenant stationed at Mitchell Air Force Base, Hempstead Long Island. She and her husband lived in Port Allegany Pennsylvania for 20 years before moving to Rochester for 3 years and then to Wellsville for the last 25 years. Lois and Wayne worked together in Elliott's Bakery and Restaurant before she returned to professional nursing. She worked at the Port Allegany Hospital, Charles Cole Hospital, Sena' Kean Manor, Director of Nursing at Lakeshore Nursing Home in Rochester and then finished her nursing career at the Wellsville Manor. Her biggest interest in life was her family and she took great pride in watching them grow and become who they are today. Lois took a great interest in reading and at one time made quilts. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville the American Legion Post 702.

Survivors include: a daughter, Susan (Albert) Meyer; a daughter in law, Kathy Elliott; 3 sons, Mark (Linda) Elliott, Jonathan (Cheryl) Elliott and Gregory (Lori) Elliott; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; long time special and dear friends, Anne Walsh of Geneva and Betty Heffernan of Dayton, OH.

Besides her husband Lois was predeceased by her beloved son David in 2006 as well as her loving mentor Charles Kleinhenz; a sister, Helen Dwyer; 2 brothers, Jack and Alan Hennessy.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 22, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday at 10 am in the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 am in the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Sean DiMaria Celebrant. Wellsville, NY - June C. Williams of 50 Johnson Street went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 18, 2012. She was born on February 12, 1923 in Eldred, PA. to Laverne F. and Eva Cook. In 1942 she married William J. Carpenter who predeceased her in 1978. In 1981, she married James D. Williams who predeceased her in 2008.

June was a graduate of Wellsville Central School and was employed by the former Citizens Bank and retired from the then Key Bank in 1981. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellsville.

June is survived by a daughter Sandra (David) Goodsell and a son Jerry (Alyce) Carpenter both of Wellsville. A step daughter, Jamie (Gary) Witmer of Virginia Beach and 2 stepsons, Sam (Lori) Williams of Kitty Hawk, NC. and Hal Williams of El Paso, TX. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Brent Goodsell and Scott (Kim) Goodsell both of Clifton Springs, NY., Terra (Nick) Dustin of Hamburg and Megan Carpenter of Wellsville; 8 step grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. June was predeceased by a brother Therold "Terry" Cook.

There will be no visitation or service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family in the Stannards Cemetery. Wellsville, NY - Ida "Joyce" Thompson, 80, of 17 East Hanover Street passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Jones Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. She was born January 3, 1932 in Canisteo the daughter of the late Thomas and Alma (York) Taylor. On October 3, 1953 in Wellsville she married Jeffrey T. Thompson who survives.

Joyce resided in Canisteo and Greenwood until her family moved to Wellsville in 1940. She was a 1949 graduate of Wellsville High School. She was formerly employed at Sanbourn Pharmacy and Coats Drug Store in Wellsville. She was a life member of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Ellen (Karl) Perkins of Andover and Valerie Wells of Alden, four grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Thomas D. Taylor and one sister, Marian Stephens.

Wellsville, NY - Dennis L. Winship, 63, of 3186 Route 417 died on Monday, January 9, 2012 at home. He was born March 13, 1948 in Wellsville the son of the late George R. and Viola (Chapel) Winship. He was a 1967 graduate of Wellsville High School, received an Associate Degree from Alfred State College, a Bachelor of Science Degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Alfred University.

Dennis was formerly employed Jones Memorial Hospital, Harris Supply Company, the Wellsville County Club and Kerton's Florist & Greenhouse.

He is survived by three brothers, Caryl Winship of Olean, Martin Winship of Allegany and Roger Winship of Ogdensburg, two sisters, Georgia Winship of Little Genesee and Roberta Hall of Nottingham, PA as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Wellsville - Darlene Mae Irish of Irish Avenue went to be with her Lord and Savior at home on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 4, 1934 in Alma to Elmer A. and Dorothy M. ( Jackson) Brownell Sr. On December 4, 1952 she married Cecil E. Irish who survives.

Darlene graduated from Wellsville High School in 1952. She was employed by Wellsville Central Schools as a baker where she retired after 17 years. Darlene devoted her time to caring for her home and family as well as reading and doing cross word puzzles. She was a member and served as an officer of the Shongo Country Chapel.

Surviving besides her husband are; a son, Cecil (Mary) Irish; 3 daughters, Vonda Frazier, Valerie ( Michael ) Macri and Darla (Pete Thorburn) Curtis; seven grandchildren, Jodi (John) Roney, CJ (Katie) Irish, Conner and Cooper Frazier, Danielle (William) Turk, Morgan and Rachel Curtis; 3 great grandchildren; a special niece Jeanna Brownell as well as several nieces and nephews.

John F. "Jack" Colligan

Wellsville, NY - John F. "Jack" Colligan passed away on Wednesday, January 04, 2012, at the Highland Park following a lengthy illness. He was born in Wellsville on November 23, 1931, the son of Charles Cornelius and Catherine Marie (Dahill) Colligan. On August 16, 1952 he married the former Edith Neu.

Jack was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception School and in 1949 from Wellsville High School. He attended Canisius College, but then enlisted in the United States Air Force to serve during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he graduated from Alfred State College. Jack was a Retail Accounts Manager for the McKesson Drug Company retiring in 1989 and was affiliated with Robart's Realty until his retirement from there in 2008. Jack was a former member of the Jones Memorial Board of Directors and served on the Wellsville Town Board from 1990 until 2006 serving as Councilman and Deputy Supervisor. In 2007, he assumed the position of Democratic Election Commissioner for Allegany County, retiring December 31, 2009.

Jack was a member of the Emerald Hook and Ladder Company, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Loyal Order of Moose, and held several positions within the American Legion. He was Past Commander of Post 702, Past County Commander, and Past Chef deGare of Voiture #1006 of the La Societe Des 40 Hommes Et 8 Chevaux. Along with his family, Jack helped start the Wellsville Area Satellite for the Variety Club of Buffalo to serve the sick and handicapped children of Western New York. He was also a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Parish. In 2001, he was honored by the Wellsville Chamber of Commerce with the Spirit of Wellsville Award and in 2007, from the Variety Club of Buffalo for the Volunteer of the year. He was known for many years as the local Santa Claus, traveling with his elves, Dick Murphy and John Sweeney to visit area nursing homes and shut-ins during the holiday seasons.

Jack is survived by one son, Timothy (Suzanne) Colligan of Wellsville; a grandson, Christopher (Natalie) Ricci of Clermont, FL.; a granddaughter, Erin (Jeremy) Dahlgren of Wellsville; great grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Ricci of Clermont, FL. and Brooklyn and Wheeler Dahlgren of Wellsville; A sister, Shirley Gostley of Wellsville; a brother, Donald (Brenda) Colligan of Wake Forest, NC.; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by a daughter, Denise Elaine Ricci in 1979, a brother, Charles Kenneth Colligan in 1949, a sister, Norma Marie Kensek in 2005 and a grandson Shane Timothy Colligan.

Wellsville, NY - Louise O. Schrlau, 82, formerly of 115 E. State Street went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, January 2, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born September 22, 1929 in Scio the daughter of the late Merle and Gladys (Ost) Jackson.

Louise was known for her love of God, family, friends, for her smile and her unique sense of humor. She has resided for the past eight years at Manor Hills and was a member of the Riverside Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by six children, Howard "Bill" (Kay) Schrlau of Wellsville, Onalee (Thomas) Weaver of Bradford, PA, Edward (Anna Riley) Schrlau of Smethport, Mary Barrett of Spencerport, Sandy (John Crawford) Sherwood of Wellsville and Sherrie (Timothy Niccloy) Schrlau of LeRoy, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great granddaughter, three sisters, Mildred (Eugene) Smith of Scio, Hazel Jones of Bolivar and Phyllis (William) Jones of Bowling Green, KY, one brother, Leslie Jackson of Scio, a sister-in-law, Viva Jackson of Friendship and a devoted friend, Shirley Hosmer of Scio as well as several nieces & nephews.

Raymond L. Orvis

Wellsville, NY - Raymond L. Orvis passed away Saturday, December 31, 2011 at home in Wellsville, NY with his family by his side. He was born April 16, 1946 in North Hornell to the late Elbert and Lula Belle (Marvin) Orvis, the eldest of two sons and two daughters.

Ray proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1964-1968, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. On July 11, 1970, Ray married the love of his life, Helen L. Coats, in Wellsville, NY.

Ray was formerly employed as a route foreman for Elmhurst Dairy in Wellsville, a bar manager and assistant manager at the Cameo Restaurant in Wellsville and a lead man for Friendship Dairies.

He took great pride in his well-kept yard and enjoyed going to auctions, estate sales, garage sales, and going to McDonalds to read the paper and have coffee with his brother and good friends. He also enjoyed helping his wife with her day care business, as they watched and took care of many wonderful children in Wellsville, NY, all of whom they loved dearly.

He was a loving and devoted husband and father and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He cherished the times he spent teaching his grandchildren how to fish at local ponds and the Genesee River, holiday meals with the entire family, and taking everyone to the Wellsville Balloon Rally.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Camille L. (Jeff) Ricupito, of Corona, CA, and Brandy Orvis, of Scio, a son-in-law, Jacob Beaton of Wellsville, three grandchildren, Jennifer Beaton and Jesse Beaton, and Ryan Ricupito, one brother, Robert Orvis and two sisters, Donna Orvis and Penny (Dale) Angood all of Wellsville, along with two nieces and a great niece.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for all of the support they received from friends during the last month as Ray battled his cancer courageously. Thanks also to Jacob, Sabrena and relatives for their bedside vigils.

She was born April 21, 1930 in Rochester the daughter of Frederick Edward and Constance (Henry) Peeler. On September 8, 1950 in Conesus she married Hugh F. Barber who predeceased her on March 31, 1997.

Wellsville, NY - Esther M. "Peggy" Costello, 82, of 2776 Brimmer Brook Road died on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born December 23, 1929 in Wellsville the daughter of Charles and Marcella (Gibbons) Tait. On February 9, 1946 in Wellsville she married Robert W. Costello who predeceased her June 17, 1999.

Peggy was a lifelong resident of Wellsville and attended Wellsville High School. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading and loved her dogs.

She is survived by two sons, Robert M. (Betty) Costello of Wellsville, William A. Costello of Columbus, Ohio, five daughters, Sandra J. Carlin of Rushford, Carolyn A. Costello of Charleston, SC, Donna J. Baker of Pennfield, Barbara J. (Gary) Jordan and Cynthia L. Costello both of Wellsville, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Wellsville, NY - John J. Robarts, 79, of 85 Early Street died at home on Wednesday, December 28, 2011surrounded by his family. He was born May 10, 1932 in Wellsville the son of the late Harrison Ross and Gay (Holder) Robarts. On August 19, 1978 at the Christian Temple in Wellsville he married Martha Kemp who survives.

John was a graduate of Wellsville High School and attended Alfred University. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean War; attaining the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He was employed at the former Empire Gas Company, Cannon's Clothing Store and Wellsville Realty. He later purchased Wellsville Realty and after a name change, he operated Robarts Realty for many years until his recent retirement. For many years he was also employed as a gas station attendant and sold tickets at Tuller Field for the Pony League baseball games. He was a former high school basketball referee and a member a member of the I.A.A.B.O. Board of Basketball Officials. He was a past president of the Wellsville Chamber of Commerce, former director of the Wellsville United Fund and had served on the Wellsville Water and Light Board. He was a member of the Elks Lodge # 1495, the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion, Frank B. Church Post # 2530 VFW and the Western Steuben-Allegany Association of Realtors.

Surviving in addition to his wife, is a son, Ross (Brenda) Robarts of Wellsville, a daughter, Barbara Ceglia of Houston, TX, four step-children, Elizabeth (Damon) Lawrence, Cathy (Chris) Weinman, Kenneth Kemp and Daniel Kemp, five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, a sister, Roxanne Harris of Glen Mills, PA, his former wife Bette Robarts of Wellsville as well as several several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two half -brothers, Gene Robarts and Harrison "Bud" Robarts.

Wellsville, NY - Patricia K. Reisman of Fords Brook South Branch went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 23, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on May 19, 1932 in Wellsville to Alvin W. and Mildred Dodson Edwards. On May 31, 1952 she married James K. Reisman who predeceased her on May 23, 1993.

Patricia resided in Wellsville and Elm Valley all her life and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1949. She was employed by Grants, Grand City and then K-Mart for over 40 years. She was an avid horsewoman who was a member of the Southern Tier Horse Riders Club and she also participated in the Ridge Walk as an aid station attendant. Patricia was a member of the York's Corners Mennonite Church where she had taught Sunday School for 10 years and was involved with many of the Churches children's activities.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Janet K. (John Fleischman) Reisman of Wellsville and Jaclyn (Robert) Cummins of Friendship; 2 sons, Jim K. (LuAnne) Reisman Jr. of Jasper and Jeffrey (Marie) Reisman of Kendall; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; her faithful companion, Andy; 8 sisters in law, Darla Edwards of Wellsville, Patricia Hulse of Harrisonburg, VA., Alecia Branson of Summerville, SC., Mary (Donald) Waters of Whitesville, Florence (Richard) Dodson of Scio, Barbara Reisman of Wellsville, Barbara Reisman of Bradenton, FL. and Joyce Streyle of Scotts Bluff, NE; several nieces and nephews; a special friend Gloria Meiss of Scio.

Wellsville, NY - Stephan Paradzsik of Early Street passed away in Rochester on Thursday, December 22, 2001. He was born on December 8, 1924 in Siklos, Hungary to Andres and Teresa Madenszioler Paradzsik. On October 10, 1945 he married Hilda Gast who predeceased him September 23, 1992. He later married Elaine Butts who predeceased him on March 4, 2005.

Stephan worked for Worthington and retired from the then Dresser Rand as a supervisor. He was a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Wellsville and a life member and Past Governor of the Moose Lodge # 601 in Wellsville. Stephan was a Past Priest of Wellsville RAM # 143, a member of the Wellsville, Andover, Alfred and Coudersport F&AM. He was a 32 degree Mason, a member of the Ismailia Shrine of Buffalo and the Allegany Shriners Cart Corp. He was a New York State F&AM Grand Steward and a past Commander of the Knights Templar.

Survivors include: a daughter, Trudy (Larry) DeMarte of Rochester; 2 grandsons, Eric (Jodi) DeMarte and David DeMarte and his fiancée Jessica Piercon; 2 great grandsons, Jake and Zach; a sister, Ilonka Sipos of Siklos, Hungary ; a brother, Laslo Paradzsik of Queensland, Australia.

Belmont, NY - Cecil J. Pierce of 160 Seneca Street passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Highland Park in Wellsville. He was born on August 23, 1918 in the Town of Alfred to Edson and Lelia Saunders Pierce. In January of 1938 he married Lucy Quant who predeceased him on September 7, 1980. In 1981 he married Irene Mosher who survives.

Cecil was a long time resident of the area. He graduated from Alfred High School and served in the US Army during WWII. Cecil was proud that he had participated in the Battle of the Bulge where he earned a bronze star. After the war he worked for the former Worthington in Wellsville and retired from there ( Dresser) after 39 years of years of service. Cecil was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed raccoon hunting. His memberships include both the Friendship and Belmont American Legions and a 65 year member of the IAM local 1580 of Wellsville.

Survivors include: 2 sons, Keith (Veronica) Pierce of Valatie and Kenneth (Cynthia) Pierce of Belmont; 4 daughters, Sharon Foster of Olean, Cecilia (Albert Wilmart) Peterson of Birdsall, Lelia (David Voit) Hadsell of West Seneca and Lynn (Dennis) Nunn of Allentown; 21 grandchildren, 22 great Grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ethelyn Eason of New Hudson, FL. and Lillian Taylor of Harrisonburg, VA.; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Theodore; 3 brothers, Lyle, Eldon and Kenneth Pierce; 2 sisters, Florence Beeton and Mary Tucker.

Richard W. Ohlson

Wellsville, NY - Richard W. Ohlson, 63, of 3168 Riverside Drive died Thursday, December 15, 2011 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born June 30, 1948 in New York City the son of the late John and Evelyn (Bidwell) Ohlson. On June 28, 1969 in Rochester he married Jeanne Bahamonde who survives.

Richard was raised in Monroe and was a graduate of Monroe-Woodbury High School. He received his BS and JD degrees from the University of Buffalo. He began his career in Law as a clerk for the Bankruptcy Court in Rochester. He later served as an attorney in Buffalo for Phillips & Lytle and Saperston and Day. He founded his own law firm in Buffalo and continued his law practice after moving to Wellsville in 1998. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. He was a devoted father, a skilled carpenter, a brilliant writer and debater and a loyal Buffalo Bills Fan. He will be remembered as a humanitarian who had tremendous sensitivity for the dignity and respect of all people.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Danielle Ohlson of Canandaigua, a brother, John (Carolyn) Ohlson of Buffalo, a sister, Virginia (Richard) Wadeson of Warwick as well as several nieces & nephews.

Belmont, NY - Patricia Elaine Winterhalter, a former resident of Belmont, of Rochester passed away on Wednesday (Dec. 7, 2011) at the University of Rochester Medical Center after a short illness.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1925, in Port Allegany, Pa., to Irvin and Alice Yaw Acre. Patricia was predeceased by her husbands, Dean Thornton and Ernest Winterhalter, who died in 2007 after 33 years of marriage.

Patricia was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Belmont and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 808 of Belmont before moving to Rochester in 2007.

Patricia is survived by three children, Phillip Thornton of Batavia, Connie Gross of Rochester, and David (Joanne) Thornton of Varysburg. She is also survived by a sister, Phyllis Cala of Jamestown as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Steven Thornton; two brothers, Howard Acre and Robert; and two sisters, Serobab Belardo and Shirley McLeod.

Belmont, NY - Pauline E. Miller, 97, of 77 South Street passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Highland Park in Wellsville. She was born November 3, 1914 in Belmont, the daughter of Roland and Ruby (Macintie) Bigelow. In 1938 she married William I. Travis who predeceased her on August 12, 1985. On February 13, 1988 in Belmont she married Ronald Miller who survives.

Pauline was a member of the M. Eva Williams Chapter # 192 Order of the Eastern Star in Belmont, Rebekah Lodge # 367 in Belmont and St. Philips Episcopal Church in Belmont.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a sister, Thelma Pierson of Florida, a sister-in-law, Betty Bigelow of Bath, a special nephew, Thomas (Jean) Colegrove of Wellsville, a beloved niece, Shirley Lyon-Bentley of Wellsville as well as several other nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Josphine Seeley, Bernice Benjamin, Evelyn Sizer and Lena Brooks, and one brother, John Bigelow.

Wellsville, NY - Donald S. Rice Jr. of 68 Pine Street passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 12, 1971 in Hornell to Donald and Barbara Miller Rice Sr. On May 20, 2000 in Hornell he married Jennifer Whitesell who survives.

Donald was a former resident of Hornell. He graduated from High School in Hornell and worked for Allie Van Lines in Rochester. He was a wonderful husband and enjoyed being with his friends.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Ryan James Lewis of Romulus; his mother Barbara Miller of Hornell; a brother, Damion Rice of Wayland; 2 sisters, Rae Rice of Hornell and Angela Jackson of Hornell; several half brother and sisters; several nieces and nephews.

Belmont, NY - Robert E. Fagan of 5 Wells Lane passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011, at the Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. He was born on June 3, 1926 in Buffalo to Herbert and Agnes Fredricey Fagan. He was married to Idalean Morford who predeceased him on October 23, 2006.

Robert was a former resident of Buffalo and Arcade who moved to Belmont five years ago. He was a machine operator for Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna where he worked for 28 years. While Robert resided in Buffalo he was a member of the Buffalo Special Police. He enjoyed big band music and collected 78 rpm records of that era.

Survivors include: a son, Robert K. (Andrea) Fagan of Shongo; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Robert was predeceased by: a brother William; 3 sisters, Hazel, Betty and Viola.

Wellsville, NY - Georgia M. (Lewis) Sherman, 80, of 191 Rauber Street passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Wellsville Manor Care Center with her family at her side. She was born October 8, 1931 in Whitesville the daughter of Leon and Florence (Gould) Lewis. On October 15, 1949 in Stannards she married Herbert "Gerry" Sherman who predeceased her on July 1, 2010.

Georgia attended Wellsville High School. She sold Avon products and worked with her husband as a secretary at H. G. Sherman Tax Consulting in Wellsville for many years. She enjoyed playing golf and antiquing, and will be remembered for her flower gardens. She was a member of the Hallsport Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Terry (Nancy) Sherman of Glendale, AZ and Ronald (Kathy) Sherman of Wellsville, a granddaughter, Jenna Sherman of Glendale, AZ, a grandson, Greg Sherman of Old Town, FL as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Lewis and a sister, Onalee Pakis.

Corinne S. Hennessy

Albany, NY - Corinne S. Hennessy, 84, passed Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Teresian House Center in the comfort of her children. Corinne was born in Salamanca, NY, the daughter of the late Ruth Callan Schwalb and Edward Schwalb.

Corinne graduated from Wellsville High School in 1945 and Sisters of Charity School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1948. She married William C. Hennessy in 1951 and relocated to Albany in 1959. Active in development of Christ the King parish and school in Westmere NY, Corinne also worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany and was a torchbearer during the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. She was an accomplished quilter and enjoyed making quilts for her grandchildren. While residing in Green Valley, Arizona, she received numerous awards for her needlepoint creations. Corinne and Bill retired to Bolton Landing NY and devoted much of their time and energy to Blessed Sacrament Church.

Corinne was predeceased by her devoted husband of 50 years, William C. Erie, PA - Sonya Kay Hurd, a former resident of Scio, passed away on Thursday November 24 at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie following a lengthy illness. She was born on January 28, 1971 in Wellsville to Louis and Cynthia Crance Hurd.

Sonya Kay graduated from Scio Central High School in 1989. She worked as a bank teller in Illinois and later was a case worker in Erie PA. She enjoyed drawing, painting, reading, computer work and her friends. A great joy in her life was her cats, Zeke and Howie and her dog Jake.

She is survived by her father, Louis (Jane) Hurd of Belmont and her mother Cynthia Crance of Erie, PA. and her maternal grandmother, Helen Crance of Scio. Brothers, Jerome Hurd, Gary Brownell Jr. and Brent Platt; sisters Tammy Scharet, Terri Santiago, Monique Brownell, Tracy Platt Ledis and Alisha Sands; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Wellsville, NY - Judith D. "Judy" Austin, 66, of 3031 Truax Road passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at her home with her family at her side. She was born March 7, 1945 in Wellsville the daughter of the late Frederick and Delphine (Moyer) Wightman. On January 31, 1975 in Wellsville she married Roy W. Austin who predeceased her February 24, 2005.

Judy was raised in Wellsville and was a 1963 graduate of Wellsville High School. She was formerly employed in Wellsville at Loblaws, Super Duper, and Big N and at the Housing Department of Alfred State College. She later owned and operated several rental properties and a trucking company with her husband. She was a member of Brookside Wesleyan Church, where she enjoyed teaching and working with children. She also enjoyed camping and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two step-daughters, Cheryl (William) Williams of Wellsville and Tara Austin of Liverpool, one step-son, William (Rebecca) Austin of Andover, two sisters, Ann M. Clark of Canisteo and Susie Wightman of Wellsville, one brother, Dennis Wightman of Wellsville as well as several grandchildren, aunts, nieces, nephews and a loving family friend, Melody Elias of Wellsville and a very special friend, Anne Williams of Wellsville. She was predeceased in addition to her husband of 30 years by a step-daughter, Debbie Spizzirri.

Greenhurst, NY - Robert F. Osgood, 89, of 3023 Route 430 died on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born December 17, 1921 in Belmont, NY the son of the late Arthur E. and Florence M. (Adams) Osgood.

Robert formerly resided in Belmont where he worked on the family farm for many years. He later moved to the Jamestown area and resided at Tanglewood Manor and the Union Gospel Mission before moving to Heritage Green. For many years he traveled to the Food Bank in Buffalo as a volunteer with the Mission Ministry.

He is survived by several cousins. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by two half- sisters, Pauline VanCampen and Marion Hardy and one half-brother, Harold Osgood.

Viola Beryl Watts

Belmont, NY - Viola Beryl Watts passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville. Viola was born on October 4, 1933 in Minot, North Dakota to Melvin and Ione (Graves) Coad. She attended Minot State College and on March 7, 1953 she married Air Force Airman 1st Class George B. Watts who predeceased her.

In 1954 she and her husband moved to Abington Maryland where Mr. Watts was a self employed roofing contractor. In 1967 they moved to New York State where they operated dairy farms in Jasper and later in Belmont. Viola was a long time employee of ACME Electric in Cuba until her retirement in 1999 at the age of 67. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards and going to the casino. She was also an avid attendee of area flea markets where she bought and sold items. Viola especially enjoyed time spent with her family.

She was the proud mother of 5 children; Kathleen (Daniel Sr.) Ziolkowski of Edgewood, MD., Gregory Watts of Seattle, WA., Pamela (Stephen) Green of Friendship, Debora Watts of Fairbanks, AK., and Brenda (Timothy) Slade of Belmont. Viola is additionally survived by 2 brothers, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews as well as her beloved and precious dog, Moe.

Viola was predeceased by her parents, Melvin and Ione, a sister Margene and her beloved husband, George.

Dawn Elaine (Hargrave) Reagan

Wellsville, NY - Dawn Elaine (Hargrave) Reagan passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She met the Lord in the presence of her husband David A. Reagan of 38 years as well as close family and friends.

Dawn was born August 10, 1951 in LeRoy, N.Y. to Earl and Gladys Hargrave. She was a 1969 graduate of Addison High School and a 1972 graduate of Saint Joseph's School of Nursing, Elmira, NY. She married David A. Reagan on July 28, 1973 at Saint Catherine's Church in Addison, N.Y.

Dawn's career in nursing has included jobs at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY, Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath, NY, Savona Central School, Steuben County Infirmary in Bath, NY, Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, NY, Allegany County Dept. of Health in Belmont, NY, and the Wellsville Elementary School in Wellsville, NY where she worked for the past 16 years preceding retirement due to health concerns.

Dawn was an avid lover of nature, seeing God's love and beauty in the birds, trees, flowers, and animals around her. Dawn was a talented artist and gifted poet, using her words to bring love and life to family and friends. Dawn will be remembered for the love and affection she had for her patients, young and old, in her capacity as the Wellsville Elementary school nurse. She had an uncanny ability to make bad days "all better". Some of the nurses who cared for Dawn in her final days recall being cared for by "Nurse Dawn" as young children.

In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by her son, Devon (Shaye) Reagan of Wellsville; Mary Katherine (Chris) Gaines of Blacksburg, VA; and son Timothy Reagan of Wellsville. She is predeceased by her father, Earl Hargrave and is survived by her mother, Gladys (Purcel) Hargrave. Surviving siblings include Thomas (Vicky) Hargrave, Deborah (Barry) Hoad, Terri (George) Farrand, Tina (Wally Bahomey) Hargrave, Tammy (Randy) Dunn, and Timothy (Lisa) Hargrave. She is predeceased by three brothers, James, Tracy, and Todd Hargrave. Numerous nieces and nephews are also recognized as survivors.

Dawn was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, NY. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she held many offices over the years and attended several National Conventions. Dawn was on the Board of Directors of the Hart Comfort House in Wellsville, NY.

Dawn's family will receive friends on Monday Nov. 14th at Embser's Funeral Home in Wellsville, NY from 6-9 PM., also on Tuesday Nov. 15th at Carpenter-Flint Funeral Home in Addison, NY from 6-9 PM. Glenn Edward Hornburg

Wellsville, NY - Glenn Edward Hornburg, 91, of 2938 Truax Road passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Highland Park Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 8, 1920 in Wellsville to Edward and A. Belle Behrens Hornburg. On April 9, 1940 in Wellsville he married Gladys M. Flint who survives.

Glenn graduated from Wellsville High School in 1937 and went to work at Moore Steam Turbine until he entered the US Army during World War II. After the war he owned and operated Hornburg's Meat Market with his father for 5 years. Glenn then returned to the then Worthington where he retired from in 1982 after 40 years of service. In his retirement Glenn enjoyed making wood crafts from his home work shop, cross word puzzles and the New York Yankee's. He was an affiliate of the Wellsville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Wellsville.

Surviving besides his wife; a son Gary (Debbie) Hornburg of Ashland, KY., and a daughter, Janice (George) Givens of Andover; 3 grandchildren, Maribeth (Shannon) Hausey of Ashland, KY., Dennis Givens of Andover and Christi Schweigart of Wellsville; 3 great grandchildren, Danielle Armfield, Michelle Schweigart and Marc Givens all of Andover. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Glenn was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Raymond T.J. Hornburg; 2 sisters, Beulah Stryker and Alma D. Hornburg.

Tonawanda, NY - Thelma D. Canfield, 88, of 135 Syracuse Street passed away on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. She was born May 2, 1923 in South Buffalo the daughter of Benjamin J. and Iva M. (Francis) Davies. On June 2, 1945 in Buffalo she married Wilton K. Canfield who predeceased her on November 18, 2001 after 56 years of marriage.

Thelma was raised in Buffalo and was a former long time resident of Belmont, NY and since December 5, 2001 she has resided in Tonawanda. She was a graduate of South Park High School and Syracuse University. She was formerly employed by Rochester Gas and Electric Company, Allegany BOCES and was a cashier and examiner for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Belmont. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Belmont and the Grace Baptist Church in Tonawanda. She was a woman of faith who embraced life to the fullest!

She is survived by a daughter, Twila (James) Vitthuhn of Tonawanda, a granddaughter, Joanne (Aaron) Mahoney of Buford, GA, a brother, Francis (Jessie) Davies of Naples, FL as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Philip Davies and three sisters, Ruth Bingert, Jean Klotzbach and Helen Thompson.

Wellsville, NY - Albert R. Fitch, 94, of 3371 C Hallsport Road died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Highland Park Rehabilitation Center in Wellsville. He was born August 3, 1917 in Port Allegany, PA the son of the late Glenn A. and Clella (Reed) Fitch. On May 14, 1959 in Youngstown, Ohio he married Alta C. Hill who predeceased him on July 16, 1989.

Albert moved to Buffalo, NY in 1921 where he graduated from Technical High School. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps in England and Europe from 1942 to 1945. In 1946 he was a civilian employee with the U. S. Air Force in the Philippine Islands. In 1947 he was employed as a surveyor for R. C. Howard Company, a civil engineering and land surveying firm in Wellsville, NY. He moved to Buffalo in 1954 and began a career with Nussbaumer and Clarke Inc. Consulting Engineers. Upon losing his eyesight in 1973, he retired and moved back to Wellsville.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Blind Veterans Association, a charter member of the Blind Association of Western New York; he was a volunteer for the Allegany County Office for the Aging and the Allegany County Association for the Blind and was an active member of the Wellsville Lions Club.

He is survived by two sons, Timothy G. (Debbie) Fitch of Sunnyvale, CA and Michael S. Fitch of West Hollywood, CA, a grandson, Christopher R. Fitch and several cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred R. Healy.

Friendship, NY - Orlo S. Gelser of the Byrnes Hill Road passed away on Tuesday, October 25, at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 19, 1926 in the Town of Grove to Arthur S. and Nora M. Dudley Gelser. On July 3, 1948 he married Marleah L. James who survives.

Orlo was a dairy farmer who later worked outside the farm. He worked for 10 years at the Farwell Feed Mill in Belmont, 8 years in the labor union and he retired from the Town of Friendship after working there for 13 years. Orlo enjoyed hunting and was a member of the local laborers union as well as a social member of both the Belmont and Friendship American Legion Posts.

Survivors include: 3 sons, Duane (Terry) Gelser of Dalton, Kenneth (Marsha) Gelser of Scio and Alan Gelser of Wellsville; 4 daughters, Janet (Allen) Ives of Wellsville, Susan (Garry) Pollock of Portville, Laura (Ricky) Jordan of Belmont and Christina (Mike) Christian of Holland; several grand and great grandchildren; his long time companion and friend, Donna Layman.

Allentown, NY - William C. "Bill" Prentice, 51, of 6428 Pleasant Valley Road died unexpectedly on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at home. He was born September 27, 1960 in Neptune, NJ the son of Bernard and Wilma (Costigan) Prentice.

Bill was raised Neptune and had formerly resided in Whitesville and St. Petersburg, FL. He was employed as a logger for Baldwin's Forest Products of Wellsville, a mechanic for Bernie's Body Shop and Garage in Allentown and most recently for the Union Drilling Inc. of Fort Worth, TX. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Bolivar.

He is survived by four children, Charles Morales of San Diego, CA, Andrew Prentice of Wellsville, Rachel (William) Lundy of Richburg and Alexis Prentice of Hinsdale, two stepchildren, Renee Ray of Wellsville and Nicole Handmore of Allegany, five grandchildren, his father of Allentown, his mother of Wellsville, two brothers, Roy Prentice of Wellsville and Adam (Jeanie) Prentice of Allentown, two nephews, the mother of his children, Ixa Morales of Richburg and his girlfriend, Kate Dahill of the Town of Wirt. He was predeceased by a son, Ryan Prentice in 1978.

Predeceased by her devoted husband, Darwin Barnes of 56 years, her parents Leonard and Elizabeth Hambridge and her brother Lt. Leslie Hambridge. Betty graduated from Wellsville High School and Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing. She was the first Wellsville Elementary School nurse and finished her nursing career in 1979 as Director of Nursing at Wellsville Highland Nursing Home. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church and St. Ann's Guild.

Wellsville, NY - Richard "Dickie" Gilbert Verlie of Railroad Ave. passed away on Monday, October 10, 2011, at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He was born on December 13, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio to Frank J. and Mary Sokol Verlie.

Dickie was a long time resident of Wellsville were he worked for the Moose Lodge and also for the Elks Lodge. He worked many odd jobs over the years and enjoyed fishing as well as shooting pool. Dickie was a member of the Wellsville Moose Lodge and a former member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge.

Dickie is survived by a sister, Arlene Keefer and a brother, Edward Verlie; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Wellsville, NY - Jonathan Andrew Dahlgren, 26, formerly of 358 East Dyke Street died on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in Verona from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle/pedestrian accident. He was born January 29, 1985 in Hornell the son of Denis and Colleen (Searles) Dahlgren.

Jon was a 2003 graduate of Wellsville High School and received a Bachelor's Degree from St. Bonaventure University. He was currently employed by Maine Source, Inc. of North Syracuse. He had recently moved to North Syracuse to reside with his grandmother.

Many will remember Jon as an avid sports fan, forever loyal to the Buffalo Bills. He played volleyball and tennis while in high school and enjoyed several wonderful vacations with his family on the water in Northern New York.

Surviving in addition to his parents is a brother, Christopher Dahlgren of Syracuse, a sister, Erin Dahlgren of Wellsville, his maternal grandmother, Dorothy (Record) Searles of North Syracuse, four aunts, Colette (Tony) Leonard of Bridgeport, Ann Searles on Minoa, Kathy Searles of Mattydale and Debra (Glenn) Mattison of Wellsville, two uncles, Donald (Janice) Dahlgren and Terry (Linda Sherman) Dahlgren both of Wellsville, as well several cousins, other relatives and special friends.

Valerio J. "Larry" Lauzze

Wellsville, NY - Valerio J. "Larry" Lauzze formerly of East State Street passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at the Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 7, 1918 in Wellsville to Joseph and Philomina Serio Lauzze. On January 23, 1950 in Wellsville he married Paula Vossler who predeceased him in December of 2004.

Larry graduated from Wellsville High School in 1936. He worked for the family business, the Candy Kitchen, and attended an electrical trade school. In 1940 he enlisted in the US Navy. Larry spent WWII on various sub tenders as an electricians mate in the Atlantic Ocean and off of the Aleutian Islands. After the war Larry worked for a short time in New York City repairing elevators. Upon returning to Wellsville he began work as electrician for Air Preheater and later retired from Dresser Rand in the early 1980's. Larry learned to play the piano at an early age and enjoyed playing while visiting the nursing homes with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Whenever possible Larry attended Masses said in Latin and he enjoyed socializing at the local service clubs.

His memberships include: The Immaculate Conception Church, Saint Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion, Elks and Moose all of Wellsville.

Survivors include: A son Paul (Shallee) Lauzze of Whitesville; a daughter, Valerie (Fred) Woodward of Clifton Park; 2 grandsons, Joseph and Nicholas Lauzze; several nieces and nephews.

He was an active member of the Wellsville Community; serving as an Eucharistic Minister for the Immaculate Conception Church, Deputy Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council # 919, member of the Olean Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, member of the Mercy Associates, a member of the Immaculate Conception Community Fun Fair Committee and a life member of the Genesee Hose Company # 5.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, David (Rosealina) Carlin of Las Vegas, NV and Timothy (Judy) Carlin of Wellsville, two daughters, Cynthia Carlin and Kathleen (C.J.) Gerald and Yvonne had formerly resided in Gainesville and Jacksonville, Florida and Wellsville, NY before moving to Bolivar. He operated a used car business most of his life. He was also employed at Worthington Corporation in Wellsville; retiring in 1999. He enjoyed racing stock cars, NASCAR, breakfast with his friends at Castaways and spending time with his dogs Nicky and Bandit.

Eleanor moved to Huntsville, Texas in 2006.

Keystone Heights, FL - Frank T. Barnhart, 65, passed away on September 2, 2011 at the Jacksonville Hospice Center. He was born December 13, 1945 in Wellsville the son of the late Raymond and Mary Grace (Radcliff) Barnhart.

Frank was a veteran of the U. S. Army from 1964 to 1968 and had served in Vietnam. He was a former long time resident on Greenwood. He moved to Sanford in the early 1980's where he was employed as painting contractor for over 20 years. He returned to New York and resided in Scio from 2007 until March of this year, when he moved to Keystone Heights, FL to live with his son Edward.

He is survived by three sons, Frank Barnhart Jr. and Raymond Dennis both of Wellsville, and Edward Barnhart of Keystone Heights, FL, three daughters, Connie Webster of Ovid, Kelly Madison of Wellsville and Skie Barnhart of Jacksonville, FL, one brother, Paul Barnhart of Wellsville, as well as eight grandchildren, one niece, one great nephew and several cousins. Scio, NY - Vic W. Kemp, 41, of 4397 Clark Street died on Friday, September 9, 2011 at home following a brief illness with cancer. He was born March 11, 1970 in Cuba the son of Carl and Linda (Hawks) Kemp Sr. On April 5, 1997 in Scio he married Kim L. Monahan who survives.

Vic was a 1990 graduate of Scio Central High School and had attended Alfred State College.

He was employed as a mechanic at Shuttleworth Auto Sales in Scio for the past seven years. He was formerly employed at Graves Auto Sales in Stannards, Bakers of Jericho Hill in Alfred and Certified Traffic Controllers in Andover.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents of Scio, is one son, Wayne M. Kemp of Scio, two brothers, Carl (Sue) Kemp Jr. of Leechburg, PA and Roy (Lori) Kemp of Hawkeye, Iowa, one sister, Louise (Jason) Roberson of Watertown, his paternal grandmother, Ruby Kemp of Wellsville, maternal grandparents, Arnold and Mary Hawks of Wellsville, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Wellsville, NY - David L. Jones, 76, of 167 Early Street died on Monday, September 05, 2011shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born November 11, 1934 in Morgantown, West Virginia the son of the late Lloyd and Theresa (Dower) Jones. On December 26, 1959 in Johnstown, PA he married Irene Davis who survives.

David was a 1952 graduate of State College, PA High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and while serving in West Germany was named the Seventh Army's "Soldier of the Month" in November of 1957. He received a BA from Penn State University in 1956, a MS from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1961, a MA from the University of Kansas in 1964 and a PhD. from SUNY Binghamton in 1974. He began his teaching career at Southwestern Central High School in Lakewood, NY and later taught at Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri. He moved to Wellsville in 1966 and taught History and Political Science at SUNY Alfred, retiring in 1994. While at Alfred, he served as President of the United University Professions from 1982 to 1985 and was Chairman of the Faculty Senate in 1979 and 1980.

He served as the Town of Wellsville Historian from 1973 to 1989, Chairman of the New York State Bicentennial Commission in Wellsville in 1975 and 1976, Past President of the Allegany County Stamp Club and a former member of the Wellsville Kiwanis Club.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, William David Jones and his wife Elizabeth of Myrtle Beach, SC; one daughter, Susan Irene Jones, and one granddaughter, Lauren Jones. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Jones.

Robert John attended Wellsville Central School and retired in August from Air Preheater as a millwright after 24 years of service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Sons of the American Legion and a former social member of the VFW all in Wellsville. Robert John was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt ,fish and ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed spending time at the Ponderosa and with his 2 dogs, Harley and Chelsea. Robert John will be remembered as a very loving family man.

Wellsville, NY - Lucille M. Potter, 94, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2011, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on April 29, 1917 in the Town of Ward to John C. and Catherine (Reynolds) Baker. On August 9, 1952, she married Arden E. Potter at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover. He predeceased her on November 3, 1983.

Lucille graduated from Alfred High School, moved to Wellsville and, over the years worked at several local businesses including: Creteko's Candy Store, Sandborn Drugstore, Cameo Restaurant and Loblaws. Lucille was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. She also was a member of the Community Center where she enjoyed playing bingo and cards. Lucille loved to bowl, but one of her greatest joys was music and dancing, especially at Breezy Point Campground. She will always be remembered for her liveliness.

Survivors include: a son John (Gwen) Potter of Wellsville; 3 grandchildren, Heather K.(Kevin) Hoffman of Chantilly, VA., Erik J. Potter and Ridge C. Potter, both of Wellsville; 2 great grandchildren, Isabella Potter and Xavier Potter as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Arden, Lucille was predeceased by: a brother, Walter Baker; 3 sisters Florence Baker, Ruth Baker and Loretta (Robert) Baker.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, September 6, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. A Prayer service will be held on Wednesday at the Funeral Home at 10:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Lois Murdough Smith - Memorial Service

Lois Murdough Smith (100), mother, friend, librarian and involved citizen of Alfred, New York, died on July 11, 2011 at Wellsville Manor, in Wellsville, New York.

Lois was born in Boston on September 10, 1910. In 1940 she married C. Duryea Smith, III, Chairman of Alfred University's Department of Speech and Drama, and moved to Alfred, NY, where she resided for 67 years. Her husband died in 1977. They had two children, Charles Duryea Smith, IV and Jennifer Anne Smith Fajman, who both reside in Maryland.

In 1932, Lois graduated from Simmons College with a degree in Library Science and became a children's librarian at the New York City Public Library. She worked for Anne Carroll Moore, the founder of children's libraries in the United States. In 1937, she moved to Wellsville, NY to establish the Children's Library at the David A. Howe Public Library. After 34 years as a librarian with faculty status, she retired in 1974 from the State University of New York College of Ceramics at Alfred University.

Lois was active in the Alfred community. During the time when her children were growing up, she became a Girl Scout leader and the President of the Alfred Almond Central School PTA in 1955. Lois was active in theater, working with the University's Footlight Club to support theater productions and being a strong participant in the Wee Playhouse. She was a founding member of the Reading Rots the Mind book club and was a principal founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Alfred Housing Committee. She was also a member of the Amadine Club. Lois was an active participant in the 1989 Nuclear Dump Fight ("Bump the Dump"), which was successful in stopping the plan to dispose of radioactive nuclear waste in Allegany County. In 2006, Lois received Alfred University's Honorary Alumnus Award, given annually to one person a year, for their interest, allegiance and service to the University and its alumni.

In 2007, Lois moved to Wellsville Manor in Wellsville, NY, because of her progressively worsening case of dementia. She resided there for her last four years and was often visited by her many friends and family. When Lois turned 100, her family and numerous friends from throughout the country attended her birthday party at the David A. Howe Public Library in Wellsville.

Lois is survived by her son Charles (Ruth) and her daughter Jennifer (Roger). She is also survived by her sister, Grace Murdough Chace of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and her nephews Bill, Paul and Jon Chace and Jimmy Murdough. She was predeceased by her husband, her four brothers and her parents.

Donations in Lois' memory may be made to Alfred University (Attn: The C. Duryea Smith III and Lois M. Smith Fund), Alfred, NY 14802. The Fund is used to support theater activities at the University. Alternatively, the family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at the Union University (Seventh Day Baptist) Church, 5 Church Street (near Main Street), Alfred, at 2:00 pm on September 10th. A reception will be held after the service at the Church Center across the street.

Eloise B. Scholes

Geneseo, NY - Eloise B. Scholes was born July 12, 1920, to Leon Burdette and Rachel (Burdick) Bassett in Winchendon, Massachusetts, and grew up in Milton, Wisconsin, and Alfred, New York. She graduated from Alfred High School and earned a BFA from Alfred University. Later she worked as a ceramic artist and teacher and housewife. On October 31, 1942, she married James B. Scholes of Alfred, son of Samuel Ray and Lois (Boren) Scholes.

Eloise was known for her unfailing kindness to both humans and animals. She died peacefully August 24, 2011, at Teresa House in Geneseo. She was preceded in death by her parents, younger brother William "Bill" Bassett, and grandparents William Henry Bassett, Myrta Stella (Bliss) Bassett, Rev. Clayton A. Burdick, and Harriet Heloise (Crandall) Burdick.

She leaves her husband of 68 years; stepmother Virginia (Foster) Bassett; daughter Sandra Henderson and husband, Harold; grandchildren Rachel (Henderson) Senter and husband Matthew, Robin K. Henderson and husband Marc Miles, and Samuel J. Henderson and wife Sara Davila; and great-granddaughter Alexandra Lynn Miles.

Gerald Charles Hart

Wellsville, NY - Gerald C. Hart passed away peacefully at his home, Friday August 19, 2011, surrounded by his family and prayer.

He was born in Wellsville, NY on March 3, 1928, son of the late Henry and Finola (Wiles) Hart. He was a 1943 graduate of Immaculate Conception School and a 1945 graduate of Wellsville High School. Upon graduation, Gerald was drafted into the US Army and served in the Army of Occupation of Japan as a Technical Sgt. in the 27th. Infantry Regiment "The Wolfhounds" of the 25th Infantry Division, he was stationed in Osaka, Japan. He attended Alfred State College on the GI Bill, where he earned an Associates Degree in Business Administration.. Additionally, he graduated from Buffalo Barber School in 1948.

On January 22, 1955, he married Mary Ellen Connor at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover; who predeceased him on August 15, 2009. Together they raised ten children: Ellen (Robert) Wartella, of Oneida, Kathleen (Patrick) Godfrey, of Woodbridge, VA, Thomas (Cindy Ewell) Hart of State College, PA, Colin (Theresa Dempsey) Hart of Fredonia, Nora (Craig) Burdick, Jerome (Nancy Anderson), Gabrielle (Rich) Ewell, and Joseph (Christy Forsberg), all of Wellsville, Margaret (Mark) Reuter of Superior, CO, Jonathan (Dawn Hennessey) Hart of Grand Island, and thirty-five grandchildren.

Raising ten children was not a small task for Gerald and Mary Ellen. Together they worked hard to ensure their children were cared for. During his well lived life, he farmed the land on South Hill where he raised beans and potatoes. He owned and operated Crest Haven Vault and Burial Company and Hart Memorials. Gerald was also employed at the US Postal Service for thirty-seven years.

Gerald was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Emerald Hook and Ladder Co, American Legion, Moose Lodge, and was a 4th. Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his children, he is survived by his sisters Jean Hanks and Judy (Jim) Brush, brothers-in-law, Clinton Adams, Jim (Marlene) Connor, John (Maurice) Connor, and Michael (Melinda) Connor, many nieces and nephews that he held very dear to his heart, and special friends Kevin and Nancy Kailbourne and Gordy Cook.

He was predeceased by his brother, Billy Hart, a sister, Esther Adams and a nephew, Billy Hanks.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:30 am at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. Gary W. Rushmore

Wellsville, NY - Gary W. Rushmore, 77, of Clark Street went to be with his lord on Friday, August 19, 2011, after a short illness at Highland Park. He was born in Wellsville on July 27, 1934 to Wallace and Gladys Marsh Rushmore. On July 11, 1970 he married his wife of 41 years, Jean Rapan Rushmore who survives.

Gary graduated from Wellsville High School. He worked for Yanda's Service Station, Acker's Quaker State and later for Dean's ARCO all in Wellsville. He was employed by Alfred State College for a time and retired from The Friendship Dairy in 1996 after 20 years of service. Gary enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandsons.

Surviving besides his wife includes: 2 sons, Matthew Rushmore of Wellsville and Keith (Tabitha) Rushmore of Bath; 2 grandsons, Jake and Ryan as well as several nieces and nephews.

Wellsville, NY - Marion L. Bartlett formerly of White Hill in Allentown passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on June 2, 1914 in Richburg to Glenn and Rosaida Young Woodard Sr. On June 2, 1931 in Richburg she married Edward E. Bartlett who predeceased her on June 26, 2007.

Marion was a long time resident of Allentown who attended the White Hill School, Richburg School and Allentown Union School. In 1940 she became a member of the Allentown United Methodist Church where she later taught Sunday school. Marion was a past president of the United Methodist Women in Allentown and later was a member of the United Methodist Women in Alma. She was also a past Nobel Grand for the Rebekah Lodge # 594 in Allentown.

Marion was very fond of flower gardens and crafts. She canned vegetables from her large garden and made maple syrup.

Survivors include: a son James E. Wellsville, NY - Jessica A. Dennis of the Stannards Road passed away on Monday, August, 15, 2011, at Strong Memorial Hospital after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born on April 5, 1979 in Prince Fredrick, MD., To Richard W. Humphreys and Terry Prentice. On May 8, 2009 in Wellsville she married Russell Dennis who survives.

Jessica was a former resident of Bolivar who graduated from Bolivar - Richburg Central School in June of 1998. While in school she was a member of the band and marching band playing the clarinet and also ran cross country. In addition, Jessica graduated from BOCES in Belmont from the Medical Assisting Program in June of 1998. Jessica later attended JCC in Olean and worked for Tops Markets from 2000 to 2010. She enjoyed gardening, music, the outdoors, being with family and friends and assisting the Willing Fire Department as an auxiliary member.

Surviving besides her husband: her father, Richard Humphreys of St. Petersburg, FL.; her mother Terry Prentice Hall of Bolivar; maternal grandfather, Vernon Prentice of Georgia; 2 sons, Gabe L. Dennis at home and Wade L. Dennis of Friendship; 2 sisters, Kristy Humphreys-Lananger, Kimberly E. Hall and a brother, Henry R.D. Hall all of Bolivar; several nieces and nephews; 3 aunts and several cousins; special friends, Pamela and Tony Burdick of Bolivar, Beth and Johnny Common of Allentown and Dianne Murray of Bolivar.

Francis L. Sawyer

Wellsville, NY - Francis L. Sawyer, 91, of 1984 Dutch Hill Road died on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center with his family at his side. He was born December 24, 1919 in the Town of Willing the son of Lee and Myrtle (Keagle) Sawyer. On June 27, 1942 in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville, he married Helena O'Hara who predeceased him on December 17, 2008.

Fran was a graduate of Wellsville High School and was elected to the Wellsville Sports Hall of Fame for his many accomplishments in athletics. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He was employed at Worthington Corporation and Air Preheater Company in Wellsville, retiring in 1981. He was involved in the reality business for many years and founded "Sawyer Reality" in 1977. He was a life member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge # 1495, a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville; where he served as an usher and the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sandy Sawyer and a grandson, Patrick Sawyer both of Wellsville, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Sawyer of Whitesville as well as several nieces & nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, James Sawyer and a brother, Robert Sawyer.

A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with Rev. Sean DiMaria as Celebrant. Wellsville, NY - Alice J. Meyers McHenry's life ended on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. My life was the best and most fulfilled life that anyone could wish for. I loved life and cherished each and everyday.

I was the proud mother of five daughters who will continue my love of life; Deborah Meyers (Blair) Buchholz of Wellsville, Steff Meyers (Rich) Miller of Sylacauga, AL, Valerie "Babe" (Lisa Hays) Meyers of Birmingham, AL, Arienne "Jo" Meyers (Casey) Conroy of York, PA and Karina "KC" Meyers Bronke of South Deerfield, MA. I am also the very proud grandmother to, Ashley, Georgia, Patrick, Ryan, Sarah, Daniel, Peter, Marissa and Johnathan, and step-children, Robert and Vicki.

I was born in Olean on October, 4, 1934 the daughter of Dr. Edmond and Faith (Neother) Osgood. My husbands, Les Meyers and Jim McHenry have predeceased me. I was raised in Belfast and graduated from Belfast High School. In my lifetime I worked as a dishwasher, cook and housekeeper. I was also employed at Lane's Drugs, Ponche's Red & White in Belfast, Dinnion Coil and the Pajama Factory in Fillmore. I found my purpose and second home in Wellsville working as a Children's Librarian at The David A. Howe Public Library. My job and the community of Wellsville were always a great source of joy in my life and always offered hope, strength, respect and a reason to fight to stay young. In my lifetime I enjoyed food, music, books and films. I thrived on the dark sound of thunder, rain and laughter. I loved life. I leave this message:

Wellsville, NY - Pearl E. Childress, 93, of 4192B Bolivar Road died on Monday, July 11, 2011 shortly after arrival at Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born March 18, 1918 in Mayburg, PA, the daughter of George and Eunice (Keifer) Shepard. On December 31, 1938 in Mayburg she married John E. Childress who predeceased her on February 21, 1981.

Pearl was employed for many years at the Allegany County Office for the Aging. She enjoyed Bingo, traveling with her daughters and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Tom) Caschera and Arlene Lehman both of Wellsville, 13 grandchildren, Cherise Lehman, Jeff Padden, Kevin Caschera, Rhonda Lorshbaugh, Denny Padden, Steve Caschera, Kim Arnold, Amy Padden, Scott Burdick, LuAnn Dixon, Michele Platt, Kris Caschera and Shawn Lehman, 30 great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and several nieces& nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Marlene Padden on July 7, 2007 and Sharlene Burdick on January 12, 2004, four sisters, Delores Sibble, Ruth Zaffino, Opal Littlefield and Virginia Williams and two son-in-laws, Terry Lehman and Maxon Burdick.

Allentown, NY - Philip J. Wulf Sr. of High Street in Allentown passed away at home on Saturday, July 9, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 15, 1945 in Erie, PA. to Fred and Jane (Avey) Wulf. On July 3, 1967 he married Carole Moore who survives.

Phil was a veteran of the US Army serving during the mid 1960's stationed in Germany. He was a 39 year employee of Dresser Rand in Wellsville, from where he retired in 2007, and enjoyed golfing and hunting. Phil had been a member of the VFW Post in Port Allegany, the American Legion Post in Bolivar and the Moose Lodge in Port Allegany.

Surviving besides his wife Carole include: a son Philip J. Wulf Jr. of Allentown; a daughter, Cheryl (Tom) Dannheim of Allentown; 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Tim and Jon Dannheim, Elizabeth (Al) Fountain, Kyle and Jennifer Wulf; 2 great grandsons, Landon and Logan; 3 sisters, Sue (Vince) Bellian of Tucson, AZ., Nora (Jim) Carpenter of Jessup, PA. and Penny (Ray) Robbins of Scranton, PA.; 2 brothers, Gilbert Barr of Scranton, PA. and Roy (Rose) Barr of Factoryville, PA.; and aunt and uncle, Pat (Dan) Delmonto of Colden; several nieces and nephews.

Phil was predeceased by his parents, his loving grandparents Roy and Nora Avey and 2 brothers, Michael and Fred Jr.

Wellsville, NY - Shirley Ann Cannioto of 689 Trapping Brook Road passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center after a brief illness. She was born on May 28, 1936 in Belmont to Ariel and Bertha Edwards Doty.

Shirley worked for Jan and Bev's as a home health care aide. She enjoyed her work and the people she cared for retiring in 1995. She enjoyed gardening as well as listening to country music bands in Wellsville, Coudersport and Scio.

Survivors include: 6 children; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Homer (Carol) Doty of Belmont.

Erwin Amos Buchholz

Wellsville , NY - Erwin Amos Buchholz, a lifetime resident of Wellsville, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011, at his home on the Hallsport Road. He was born on July 6, 1929, the third of eleven children born to Harry and Florence (Fanton) Buchholz. He was united in marriage with Margaret Carol Hardy on August 30, 1950, and then shared almost 61 years as husband and wife.

Erwin, known to his family and friends as Herb, graduated from Wellsville High School in 1947 and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked for many years in the shipping department of Air Preheater, retiring in 1991. Since his retirement he worked part time for a number of years for McDonalds and afterwards for the Wellsville Country Club. He also served for a number of years on the Board for the Stannards Cemetery Association.

Herb was an extremely generous and caring man. He and Margaret are well known for selling wood over many years, but they have also been known to give many cords to those in need. He was a wonderful and faithful husband, father, brother and friend, always seeking to meet the needs of others whenever he could.

Survivors include his widow, Margaret, a daughter, Connie (Ken) Winters; 2 sons, Blair (Deb) Buchholz and George (Paula) Buchholz: 8 grandchildren, Laura (Berny) Salvaggio, Jack Buchholz, Ashley (Jason) Millard, Allena Buchholz, Melissa Webster, Emily Winters, Georgia Buchholz and Felicia Diehl: 5 great grandchildren, Aubrey, Arianna, Kevin, Annie and Blakey: 2 sisters, Jane (Jr.) Kernan and Joyce (Larry) Arbogast; 3 brothers, Oscar {Diane) Buchholz, Virgil (Marian) Buchholz and Galen "Pete" (Liz) Buchholz.

Herb was predeceased by his parents, 5 brothers, Leonard "Jim", Alwin, Richard, Mark and Earl Buchholz; His youngest child Debbie Lou Allen and a grandson Chad Webster.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends are welcomed to stop at the house to pay their respects to Margaret and the family. Wellsville, NY Richard Paul Troidl, 78, of 106 Madison Street died on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Hospice of Cheektowaga with his family at his side. He was born April 5, 1933 in Buffalo, the son of George and Edna (Dollard) Troidl.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving for 14 years, including tours in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He was a life member of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW, Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion and the Wellsville Moose Lodge # 601.

He is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Troidl of Rochester and Bonnie Carpenter of Cheektowaga, one son, Paul (Anna) Troidl of San Diego, CA, four grandchildren, Jason, Aaron, Chris and Marsháll, two great grandchildren, Alyssa and Aiden, two brothers, Robert (Beverly) Troidl of Tonawanda and Jerry Troidl of Elizabethtown, KY as well as several nieces, nephews and a special friend, Margaret Troidl of Belmont. Scio, NY - Logan M. Culver of Hampton, Virginia passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at her parent's home in Scio. She was born on May 10, 1982 in Wellsville to King and Tamyra Blackman Black IV. On June 30, 2001 in Wellsville she married Matthew Culver who survives.

Logan was a 2001 graduate of Scio Central School. She became a dental assistant but due to her illness she was unable to practice. While in Virginia Logan was a member of the Warwick Assembly of God Church, the Breakthrough Worship praise Team and enjoyed singing. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and wife who spent all the time she could with her family.

Wellsville, NY - Helen C. Miles of the Stannards Road passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Highland Health Care Center. She was born on March 15, 1927 in Franklinville to William and Myrtle Whittaker Howard. On December 28, 1945 she married Fred C. Miles who survives.

Helen was a former resident of Andover who had worked for Acme Electric in Cuba. She was a member of the Stannards United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts and gardening and bowled into her mid 70's in both Wellsville and Belmont. Helen enjoyed traveling and her last trip was an Alaska Cruse with her husband.

Surviving besides her husband: 3 daughters, Carol (Jack) Cashmore of Florida, Diana (Paul) Winchell of Belmont and Terry (George) Dash of Colorado; 6 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren; a sister Nancy Howard of Rena, NV as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Eric Murray.

Wellsville - Michael Jan Ludden of the Wightman Road passed away on Friday, June 10, 2001, at home. He was born on June 26, 1943 in Wellsville to Mark E. and Marguerite Dates Ludden. On July 24, 1966 in Genesee, Pa. he married Elizabeth "Beth" Dwyer who survives.

Mike graduated from Wellsville High School in 1961and worked for Dresser Rand as a machinist for 32 years retiring in 1995. He built and ran Ludden's Car Wash on the Andover Road and also ran Ludden's Septic Service. Mike enjoyed riding and working on motorcycles, 4 wheelers and snowmobiles. His friends always knew if they had a problem that they could turn to Mike for advice on how to fix them. He enjoyed traveling, especially to dirt track motorcycle races, swap meets in Mid, OH. and Carlisle, PA. as well as NASCAR. Mike loved his grandchildren and was a member of the American Motorcycle Association.

Surviving besides his wife Beth include: a daughter Jennifer Baker of Wellsville; a son Michael (Myra) Ludden of Andover; 7 grandchildren, Christian Colon, Cameron Gordon, Brokton Ludden, Bryson Ludden, Covey Clancy, Caden Ludden and Lakin Ludden; a great granddaughter, Mercedes Douglas; an aunt, Eleanor Dates and a cousin, Ron Dates ; many cousins from the Ludden Family and a long time family friend "his second son" Lon Garwood.

Wellsville, NY - Newell J. Potter Jr., 95, of 10 Putzman Avenue went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born June 13, 1915 in Wellsville, the son of Newell J. and Emeretta (Finch) Potter Sr. He first married Helen Marsh, who predeceased him in 1981. He later married Betty J. (Atherton) Marsh who survives.

Newell was a long time employee of Worthington Corporation in Wellsville; retiring in 1977. He enjoyed restoring cars to Street Rods.

AAustin, Texas - Lars E. Lanphere, 36, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011 in Austin, Texas, where had resided for many years. He was born September 26, 1974 in Wellsville, the son of Gordon E. and Linda S. (Beauprey) Lanphere.

Lars was a 1992 graduate of Wellsville High School and graduated from Johnson University in Vermont in 1998, with a degree in English Education. He had also served for four years with the Vermont National Guard. He was a member of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin and was of the Awaesaeh "Bear" Clan.

He is survived by his wife, Rae (Doppman) Lanphere of Austin, TX, two sons, Ethan Edward and Malcolm "Max" Lanphere and their mother, Dr. Heather M. Lanphere of Wellsville, his father, Gordon (Bridgette) Lanphere of Hammondsport, his mother, Linda S. Hunt of Wellsville, two sisters, Darcy A. (Carson) Shutt of Galeton, PA and Kelsey Lanphere of Hammondsport, two stepsisters, Kathy Wittie of Andover and Kim (Dennis) Herr of Wellsville, one stepbrother, Gary Hunt of Wellsville as well as several aunt, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, his stepfather, Ramond L. Hunt, two uncles, Luke Beauprey and Bill McQueen, one aunt, Jacqueline Miller and a cousin, Ronda McQueen Burrous.

Donald A. MacFarquhar

Wellsville, NY - Donald A. MacFarquhar of East Pearl Street passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 29, 1935 in Brooklyn to Murdoch and Catherine Black MacFarquhar and on June 15, 1957 in Pella, Iowa he married Doris Dockendorff who survives.

Don earned a Civil Engineering degree from Iowa State University, an MBA degree from the State University at Buffalo and was a licensed Professional Engineer. He moved to Wellsville in 1958 to work at the Air Preheater Corporation. In 1967, he became Director of Public works for the Village of Wellsville and held that position until his retirement in 1990. During his tenure as Public Works Director he was closely involved with the construction of the police and central fire stations, the wastewater treatment plant, the water treatment plant and water intake and the village garage. Don prepared and implemented the plan to combine the Public Works Department and the former Water and Light Department into one department at substantial cost savings and was deeply involved in the community's recovery from the "Agnes" floods of 1972.

Don was a US Army Veteran, serving from 1953 to 1955 and was a member of the American Legion post 702 in Wellsville. He was a past member, director and Officer of the Wellsville Country Club and a member of the First United Methodist Church. After retirement, he and Doris spent winters in Florida and traveled extensively in the United States and overseas. They also enjoyed working on the restoration of the David A. Howe Library Auditorium and on other projects at the library.

Survivors include: his wife, Doris, sons and daughters in law, Gary and Karen MacFarquhar of Evergreen, CO., and Kenneth and Susan MacFarquhar of Palm Beach Gardens, FL., grandsons Dylan, Zachary and Aidan of Palm Beach Gardens.

Dorothy Pauline Tarantine

Wellsville, NY - Dorothy Pauline Tarantine, born August 13, 1921 in Millersville, MO, died May 22, 2011 in Ithaca NY. She was the daughter of Alvin Lee and Nora Walker Niswonger. She was predeceased by her husband, Modestino (Mote) Tarantine and her brothers and sisters (and their spouses): Etta, Anna, Vesta (called Babe), Clola, Truman and Woodrow Niswonger. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Jo Hulbert and Karen Lee Tarantine, granddaughter Karen Margaret (Matt) Schindler, three great grandsons and many generations of nieces and nephews.

Her mother died shortly after Dot was born. She and her brother Woody were the only ones left at home so they were raised by their father with a lot of help from their sisters. As a result, Dot and Woody were very best friends.

Although they generally lived in Cape Girardeau, MO, they moved around the area when her dad was working with the companies building concrete highways in the area. She often attended multiple schools in one school year but graduated from Cape Girardeau High School. Sometimes the three of them lived on their own and sometimes they lived with one of the sisters. She was brought up with her nieces and nephews who were about her age.

Dot met her husband during the war when he was stationed in Cape Girardeau as a flight instructor. She was out with her niece one night and Mote asked to be introduced. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He was told that she had a boyfriend but he said he still wanted to be introduced. One of their first dates was to a restaurant for a spaghetti dinner. Dot had never had spaghetti and didn't know how to eat it or if she liked it. That was almost the end of the relationship! When Mote was transferred to Great Falls, Montana she followed and they were married there in 1944. Mote was shipped overseas to fly the Hump and so Dot went to Olean, NY to live with his sisters, Cara and Jo and his father, Jim Tarantine. While she was there she worked for Bradner's Dept. Store. After the war they lived for a short time in East Aurora where Mote sold cars and then came back to Wellsville when Mote took a job managing the Wellsville Airport on the Bolivar Road.

In 1951, they opened the Airport Drive-In to supplement their income and to serve pilots who flew into Wellsville. They were very famous for their BBQ sauce. Dorothy would peel and chop about a hundred pounds of onions every spring to make the sauce and get ready for the May 1 opening. They also had a unique style of coleslaw that they served with the fish fry. She made hundreds of thousands of hamburgers by paddling with a heavy, solid pancake turner so they could get just the right size and shape to meet their exacting standards. In the ensuing years, they started the Wellsville Flying Service. As that business grew they sold the drive-in and then oversaw the move of the airport to Niles hill where the facility was named "Tarantine Field". They both worked hard as partners in the business. Dot could do anything Mote could except repair and fly the planes! After retirement they enjoyed many years of travel to Canada fishing and to Florida for the sunshine.

Dot had a well-earned reputation as an amazing bridge player. She was part of a Wednesday afternoon group for most of the years she was in Wellsville and later joined some evening groups. Mote always said that if she heard the word bridge - even if it was part of a highway - she was ready to play cards. She was also a 50 year member of Beta Sigma Phi. Although she took up golf in retirement, she quickly became good at that and filled her china cupboard with trophies. She enjoyed social gatherings and was always smiling and friendly. Many people have described her as "just a sweetheart". Her demeanor was one of caring and love but she could be feisty when the occasion called for it. She was an amazing role model for her daughters and granddaughter.

Her passing is sad news for her family, but not bad news. She missed her husband terribly over the past four years and they are now reunited in God's love. She was born April 9, 1932 in Allentown, NY the daughter of the late Isaac and Lela (Kervin) Hardy. On March 25, 1950 in Allentown she married Neil B. Mott who predeceased her on January 30, 2003.

Dorothy was a 1949 graduate of Wellsville High School and a long time resident of the South Branch. She was employed at the Modern Diner in Wellsville for 30 years and was a charter member of the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She was very supportive of her children in their many sports and activities; especially the Wellsville Wrestling Team. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by five sons, Neil (Margaret) Mott Jr. of Wellsville, Michael (Laurie) Mott of Springwater, Mark (Michelle) Mott of Elmira, Glen Mott of Wellsville and Kevin (Colleen) Mott of Hamlin, one daughter, Cheryl (Patrick) Carlin of Wellsville, 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two sisters, Beatrice Davis and Margaret (Erwin) Buchholz both of Wellsville as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Hardy, and William and Harold Tingley.

Penny was a lifelong resident of Belmont and was a home health aide for 10 years for the Southern Tier Home Health Care. She enjoyed making baby blankets for friends and also lap blankets for the elderly. Penny loved animals especially her pets.

Wellsville, NY - Virginia Mae Lindsay, 93, of 30 Chestnut Street passed away on Tuesday, May 03, 2011 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born October 14, 1917 in Grinnell, IA the daughter of Adinirum Judson and Sarah (McCool) Blakely.

Virginia grew up in Iowa then lived on the east coast until her 80's, moving to Wellsville in 2001. She felt at home immediately and enjoyed her life here to the fullest. Known as "Ginny" to all her many friends, she was an avid and formidable bridge player (especially with her long time partner Sid), participating in numerous tournaments over the past decade. She was well known for her wonderful Christmas cookies that she shared with friends & family, continuing to do all her own cooking & baking from scratch until a few months ago. She loved plants and propagated her African Violets for years, and tended a large family garden well into her 80's. She was a devoted sports fan, actively following just about every televised sport from golf to hockey to football & baseball, rodeo to NASCAR! She loved bird watching & kept her bird feeder filled all winter. She was a devoted mother & looked forward to her weekly lunch downtown on Wednesdays with her daughter Nancy. Last October 2010 her family celebrated her 93rd birthday with a reunion bringing all the children, grandchildren and her newest great grandchild from around the world. We will all miss her fabulous warm smile and company.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann B. Lindsay and her husband Robert Richmond of Boston, MA and Nancy J. Meyers of Wellsville, one son, Michael M. Lindsay of Phoenixville, PA, three grandchildren, Meridith Ann Richmond, Jacob Meyers and William Benjamin Meyers, one great granddaughter, Emma Li Xu Ming Meyers, one sister, Harriett German of New Sharon, IA, her former husband, William S. Lindsay of Aston, PA, a devoted "daughter", Kathy Perkins of Belmont and a special friend, "Buster" (Luke) Hollod of Wellsville as well as several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by two infant children, Richard Allen Lindsay and Janet Kay Lindsay and an adopted son, David Thomas Lindsay.

Bolivar, NY - Michael Shane Ayers devoted son, brother and uncle, age 34 of 129 Olean Street passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, at Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on March 9, 1977 in Olean; he was the son of Carol J. Ayers who survives.

Mr. Ayers was a devoted son, brother and uncle who enjoyed being around family. He was very active in the Bolivar Community. He attended and was very active in the West Clarksville Baptist Church. Prior to his accident he was employed by Ron Treehouse at the former Bowl-O-Var Lanes. He played football for Bolivar graduating as a Wolverine football player.

Surviving besides his mother includes: 4 sisters, Barbara (Terry) Baker, Kimberly (Ken) Dickerson, Angela Schoenherr and Christina (Paul) Edwards; a brother, Darron (Becky) Ayers. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his older brother Gene Ayers; a maternal grandmother, Helen Mix and a nephew Shaun Chambers.

She was born February 7, 1920 in Westfield, NY the daughter of the late Vernon and Beulah (Teemley) Harmon. On November 11, 1940 in Olean she married Jack Butler who predeceased her on January 3, 1985.

Mariam was formerly employed at Bausch & Lomb Inc. in Wellsville from 1948 until it closed in 1954, Glen L. Smith Inc. in Wellsville from 1955 until it closed in 1957 and Capital Plastics Inc., which later became Rochester Button Inc. in Wellsville from 1964 until they closed in 1977.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane (Jim) Daly of Clarence Center and Fort Myers, FL, five grandchildren, Patrick (Lisa) Daly of Lockport, NY, Kathleen (Todd) Molyneux of Missouri City, TX Michael (Christy) Daly of Sanford, NC, Kimberly (Benny) Lynch and Karen Dates both of Raleigh, NC, eight great-grandchildren, Tyler and Meredith Daly, Alexa, Sean, Kelcey and Connor Molyneux and Alexandra Daly, a sister-in-law, Violet Butler of Olean as well as several nephews and one niece. Wellsville, NY - MaryEllen R. Gould Perry, 91, a former resident of Riverview Heights, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born November 30, 1919 in Wellsville, the daughter of the late Henry and Mildred (Rushmore) Reuning. In February of 1943 she married C. Raymond Gould who predeceased her in 1956, and in October of 1971 she married Regal Perry who predeceased her in 1999.

MaryEllen was a graduate of Wellsville High School. She was formerly employed at Reuning's Bakery, Worthington Corporation, Empire Gas and retired from National Fuel in 1981. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and caring for family and friends in their time of need. She was an avid card player and learned to play the organ later in life. She especially enjoyed Big Band music and was thrilled to have met Frank Sinatra.

She is survived by two sons, Craig (Pamela) Gould of Saratoga Springs, NY and James (Cherese) Gould of Wellsville; four grandchildren, Jenna (Matthew) Nafus of Glenville, NY, Kimberly Gould of Washington, DC, Alison (Paul) Chaffee of Douglasville, GA and Ashley (James) Edmonston of Belington, WV; two great-grandchildren, Maxum John Nafus and Emma Elaine Chaffee; three step-children, James Perry, Sally Roberts and Judy Gibbons and their families; one brother, Bruce Reuning of Wellsville, a sister-in-law, Louella Reuning of Wellsville, as well as a niece, several nephews and cousins, notably Barbara Raines of Wellsville. Wellsville, NY - Norma "June" Angood, 81, of 689 Trapping Brook Road passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born at home on June 1, 1929 in Coudersport, PA the daughter of Josiah C. and Ethel A. (Jacobs) Franke. On April 10, 1948 in Coudersport, PA she married Robert Angood who predeceased her on September 7, 1998.

June was a former resident of Coudersport, Andover and Scio. She was formerly employed as a waitress for Mackie's, The Black Forest and for the Texas Hot all in Coudersport. She was also a nurse's aid for 17 years at the former Potter County Memorial Hospital. June was a charter member of the Coudersport Firemen's Auxiliary. She was an avid bingo player who enjoyed playing at many locations in both New York and Pennsylvania. She was a very independent person who loved her children, grandchildren, cooking and family picnics.

Survivors include: a son Dale (Penny) Angood of Wellsville; 4 daughters, Lynda Lanterman and her fiancé Randall Taylor of Jamestown, Robin (Calvin) Morrison of Wellsville, Cindy (John Case) Hinkle of Wellsville and Tammy (Paul) Starr of Baldwinsville; 7 grandchildren, Michelle (Brant) Monroe, Ashley and Christopher Morrison, Brandan Hinkle, Jessica, Nicholas and Aaron Starr; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Wellsville, NY - Ruth Eva Cicirello, 92, of 147 Stevens Street passed away at home on Friday, April 8, 2011. She was born September 2, 1918 in Galeton, PA the daughter of the late Truman and Dora Mae (Lowe) Mathern. On February 2, 1935 in Alfred she married Anthony (Boots) Cicirello who predeceased on March 31, 1975.

Ruth was the dispatcher for the Allegany County Rescue Squad from 1960 until they merged with the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps in 1970. She was the dispatcher for the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps from 1970 until the time of her death. She also operated Boot's Tackle and Candy Shop until 1984.

She is survived by one son, James (Sue) Cicirello, a daughter-in-law, Judy Cicirello, a sister-in-law, Corrine Mathern all of Wellsville, four grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-grandson and a dear friend, Kathy Nash of Wellsville. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Lewis Cicirello and a brother, James Mathern.

She was born January 19, 1931 in the Town of Willing, the daughter of the late Lewis and Mildred (Buchholz) Fanton. She was predeceased by her first husband, Jack Cramer and on September 14, 1991 in Wellsville she married Charles I. Lananger who survives.

Luella was formerly employed by the Modern Laundry, Rosser's Laundry, Mapes Woodworking for 28 years and Argentieri Brothers Inc. all of Wellsville. She was currently employed by the Stannards Cemetery Association. She was an honorary member of the Willing Hose Company # 1, a life member of the Morrison-Hayes American Legion Post 702 Auxiliary, the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and a member of the Stannards United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, crocheting, and sewing and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Wellsville, NY - Mildred P. Burdge, a long time resident of Pine Street, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 22, 1922, the oldest daughter of Reynold and Bertha Conable, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. She married Raymond R. Burdge on December 23, 1941who predeceased her on November 22, 1976.

She graduated from Genesee High School in 1940.After marriage, Mrs. Burdge lived most of her life at 68 Pine Street, the same house where she brought her first son home from the hospital and raised her family. She had worked for Ed Frederick at his store cooking and baking. Even though she never drove, she loved to travel to visit friends and family as much as possible. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed needlework (including embroidery and quilting) and was an avid reader. She will be lovingly remembered for her gentle sprit and good humor. The family is grateful to the staff of Wellsville Manor Care Center for their compassionate and outstanding care.

Marie was former resident of Wellsville and South Alabama moving to Batavia in 1979 and was the office manager for Tyler Truck Line in Oakfield. She graduated from the immaculate Conception School in Wellsville, Wellsville High School and from Medaille College in Buffalo. Marie's life was her family and her faith. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Batavia. She had been a member of the Oakfield Alabama Grange and served as the Matron for their Junior Grange.

Survivors include: 3 sons, Tommy (Sandy) Emerson of Oklahoma, Dennis Emerson of the Philippines' and Jamie Emerson of Batavia; 3 daughters, Patty Caleb of Medina, Anne Marie (Mike) Culliton of Batavia and Kathryn (Pat) Keenan of Farmington; 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; a brother Dennis O'Keefe of Andover and several nieces and nephews.

Wellsville, NY - Edward W. Piper of Moonlight Drive passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. He was born on July 26, 1923 to Raymond and Helen Rosa Piper. On August 20, 2001 in Olean he married Paulena LaPolt who survives.

Edward was a former resident of Olean and Asheville North Carolina. He graduated from Olean High School and attended Grove City College. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during both WWII and the Korean War. Edward was a rural mail carrier for over 20 years in the Olean Area and enjoyed music. He sang with the both the Olean Barber Shoppers and the Asheville Barber Shoppers and wrote his own music. Edward attended the First United Methodist Church in Wellsville.

Surviving beside his wife; a daughter, Charlene Metcalf of Jamestown and a grandson, Raymond VanBuskirk; 3 step daughters, Patty (Gary) McFadden Greenstein of Olean, Mary McFadden of Olean and Denise (Joe) McFadden Kubic of Allegany; 2 step sons, Danny McFadden of Endicott and Dennis (Rita) McFadden of Olean; many step grand and great grand children; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by: his first wife Isabel in 1976 and his second wife Catherine McFadden in 2001; a son, Raymond "Pete" Piper; a step daughter, Peggy McFadden Crandall; a sister, Lorraine Lewis.

Belmont, NY - Louise E. Patterson, 88, of State Route 19 South passed away on Friday, March 25, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville following a long illness. She was born September 3, 1922 in North Tonawanda the daughter of the late Benjamin and Rose (Drewes) Grawe. On June 22, 1946 in North Tonawanda she married James W. Patterson who survives.

Louise was raised in North Tonawanda and graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1940. She graduated from Brockport State Teachers College in 1944 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She taught second and third grade at Belmont Central School for many years, retiring in 1984. She loved teaching and children, and enjoyed playing the piano, the organ and flower gardening. She was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church.

She was raised in Pennsylvania before moving to Scio. She was a former member of the Scio Grange and enjoyed flowers, being outdoors and family picnics.

Wellsville, NY - Robert C. Sweet, 91, of 4329 Bolivar road passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center with his family at his side. He was born May 31, 1919 in Wellsville the son of the late Milford C. and Lydia (Fleischman) Sweet. On November 10, 1942 in Fayetteville, NC he married Gladys Dickinson who survives.

Bob was attended Wellsville Central School and continued his education with the Veterans Administration school after returning from WWII. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and served with the 101st Airborne. He was part of the invasion force at Normandy and served in Europe where he was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts. He also received the French Jubilee of Liberty Metal and had just received the French Legion of Honor Metal. He was part of the liberating force in Holland and made many friends while there; he returned to Holland twice since the war to visit those friends.

Bob was the co-owner, operator and president of Rockwell Brother's Department Store in Downtown Wellsville for many years and retired in 1990. He was a longtime active member of the Wellsville Chamber of Commerce, the Wellsville Lions Club and was a life member of the Wellsville Rod & Gun Club. He was a 74 year member of the McEwen Hose Company # 4 in Wellsville and was named the Allegany County Fireman of the Year in 2008. He was also a member of the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion, the Frank B. Church Post # 2530 VFW, the Brookland Club in Pennsylvania, the Custom Express Car Club and the First Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an avid coin collector, had wintered in Florida for many years and loved spending time with grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 68 years; are two children, David (Jackie) Sweet and Kathryn (Roger) Moyer both of Wellsville, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a sister, Lois (Ed) Flurschutz of Wellsville, a sister-in-law, Marcella Sweet of Wellsville, several nieces & nephews and two special and devoted family friends, Jim & Rae Franklin of Wellsville. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Sweet in 1999.

Howard C. Dunshie

Allegany, NY - Howard C. Dunshie of 67 North Third Street passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital. He was born in Olean on September 27, 1919 to Jesse M. and Tillie Terrette Dunshie. In December of 1940 married he married Althea Leila Witter who predeceased him in May of 1988. In January of 1989 he married Ailene Dickerson who predeceased him in April of 2010.

Howard was a former resident of Pikeville and Friendship who later moved to Allegany. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the amphibious forces in the Pacific Theater. Howard went to work for Bradley Producers in the local oil fields and retired from Butler Larkin. He enjoyed wood working up until last year. In his younger days Howard played baseball and he later enjoyed watching it. He also enjoyed country rides, eating out and spending time with family and friends. Howard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his independence, his pride and above all that he was a gentleman.

Survivors include: 3 sons, Howard E. "Gene" Dunshie of Pigeon Forge, TN., David (Kat) Dickerson of Olive Branch, MS., and Tom (Glenda) Dickerson of Alma; 3 daughters, Gayle (Sam) Speta of Friendship, Judy (Bill) Capozzi of Allegany and Ann (Steve) Butts of Cincinnati, OH.; several grand and great grand children; 2 sisters, Pauline Green of Bolivar and Itha Poeltl of North Tonawanda; 2 brothers, Frederic (Eleanor) Dunshie of Concordia, KS., and Kenneth Dunshie of Warren, PA., as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by: a sister, Lois Halleck; 3 brothers, Frank, John and Russell Dunshie

Wellsville, NY - Mary E. Merry a former resident of Morgan Hill Road in Scio passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 28, 1928 in Wellsville to Leo and Miriam Byrnes Coyle. On July 16, 1958 she married Alfred Merry who predeceased her on July 30, 1984.

Mary graduated from Immaculate Conception School in Wellsville and from Wellsville High School in the class of 1946. She then attended the Westbrook Academy in Olean. Mary worked for Bausch and Lomb in Wellsville and later for Worthington Corp., Community Care of Western New York and then for Jan and Bev's as a home health aide. She enjoyed life and her grandchildren and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Scio.

Survivors include: 4 sons, Alfred "Rick" (Isabelle) Merry of Rome, NY., Daniel Merry of Scio, Michael Merry of Wellsville and Thomas Merry of Wellsville; 7 grandchildren, Casey (Jerrica) Merry, Brian Merry, Brittney Merry, Phillip Merry, Danielle Merry, Kaylie Merry and Jessica Rix; a brother, Walter (Virginia) Coyle of Wellsville and a sister Margaret Evans of Wellsville; several nieces and nephews.

Wellsville, NY - John A. Melaro, Jr., 69, of 53 Park Lane passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was born July 20, 1941 in Olean the son of the late John A. and Margaret (Joseph) Melaro, Sr.

John had resided in Wellsville since 1942. He was a 1960 graduate of Wellsville High School; he received his B. S. in Social Studies and his Masters in Guidance & Counseling from Athens College in Athens, AL. He continued his graduate work at the State University of New York at Geneseo. He was employed by Allegany County BOCES as a special education teacher for 28 years, retiring in 1996. John was the golf coach at Wellsville High School for 38 years and was named the New York State Coach of the Year in 2001 by the New York State Coaches Association. He was a former volunteer for the LPGA Corning Classic and a member of their advisory board. He was the Allegany County Special Olympics Coordinator for 25 years. John was elected to the Wellsville Village Board for four terms and had served as Deputy Mayor. He was a former member of the Jones Memorial Hospital Board of Directors for 13 years, a member of Wellsville Country Club, the Elks Lodge # 1495 in Wellsville and a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville.

He is survived by a sister, Victoria (John) Biondolillo of Mendon, a brother, William (Kathy) Melaro of Sharon, PA, an uncle, Lou (Adelle) Joseph of California, Brother-in-law, Walter Weirich of Rushford, five nephews, two nieces, five great nephews and two great nieces as well many close friends including, Toni Morreale of Rushford. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ann Weirich in 1999 and a special friend, Susan J. Graham in 2009.

Shongo, NY - Robert D. Hughes, 89, of 470 State Route 19 South passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath following a long illness. He was born July 29, 1921 in Genesee, PA the son of the late Fred and Celia (Riley) Hughes.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII in the European Theater of Operation. He served with Company "C" 318th Infantry 80th Division and participated in the Normandy Campaign. He was wounded in France and was awarded the Purple Heart in August of 1944. He was employed as an over the road truck driver from 1955 to 1960 and from 1961 to 1973 he owned and operated Hughes Septic Tank Service. He was a life member of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 VFW in Wellsville and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed photography, trading cars and trucks and helping people in his community with car repairs. Bob will be fondly remembered by his friends and family in the Shongo and Wellsville area.

He is survived by a son, David Hughes of Shongo, four grandchildren, Steven Hughes, Sonva Hughes Larsen and Amber Hughes all of Long Beach, CA, and James Hughes II of San Pedro, CA and one great-granddaughter, Stella Larsen of Long Beach, CA. He was predeceased by his former wife Helen Francis Hughes, and a son James Hughes I.

Wellsville, NY - Anna E. "Kitty" Hickey, 87, of 168 Trapping Brook Road died on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Jones Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born on January 5, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of Earl and Bessie (Mayo) Green. On January 27, 1957 in Wellsville she married Harold "Jim" Hickey who survives.

Kitty was raised in Wellsville and Belmont and had resided in Rushford from 1967 to 1982, at which time she moved to Wellsville. She was employed at Alfred State College for 30 years.

She had attended Rushford Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Belmont and currently was attending Faith Baptist Church in Yorks Corners.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Joyce (Richard) Barber and Marcia (David) Zick both of Binghamton, one grandson, William "Mike" Yerrick, two great-grandchildren, Luke Ryan Yerrick and Whitney Elise Yerrick, a sister-in-law, Darlene Chapman of Wellsville as well as one niece, Laurie Hickey and one nephew, Joseph Chapman.

A memorial service for Kitty is being planned and will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery in Belmont. George E. Emerson

Shongo, NY - George E. Emerson, 85, of 494-1 Route 19 South died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 9, 201l, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 30, 1925 in the town of Wirt, the son of the late Lewis and Harriet (Moyer) Emerson. On January 5, 1947 in Hornell he married Nancy Pascoe who survives.

George attended Bolivar Central School and at that time was employed at the munitions plant in Eldred, PA. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during WWII in the European Theater of Operation. He saw action during Exercise Tiger in April of 1944 and received the Purple Heart. After the war, he was employed as an apprentice carpenter for three and a half years at Swanson Corporation in Portville while residing in Olean. He later owned and operated George's Restaurant in Shongo for 23 years. He then worked for the Potter County Housing Authority in Ulysses, PA for three years.

He was a member of the Southern Tier Chapter of the New York State U. S. Amphibious Forces Association. Through the years he enjoyed taking family trips and trips with his Navy friends, he also enjoyed carpentry, wood crafting and gardening.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, John (Linda) Emerson of Bloomington, Indiana, Steve (Cathy) Emerson and Larry (Belinda) Emerson both of Shongo, three daughters, Sally (Bob) Dougherty and Cindy (Dick) Jadwin both of Wellsville and Lori (Dan) Wood of Genesee, PA, 14 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one brother, Jack Emerson of Wayland, two sisters, Anna Jane (Cliff) Rought of Zephyr Hills, Florida and Gail (Sheldon) Boor of Dansville as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by and infant grandson, Jeffery Michael Scoville, a brother, Eslie Emerson and two sisters, Esther Witter and Sandy Petrillo.

Wellsville, NY - Rose E. Trask of the River Road passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the Highland Health Care Center surrounded by her family. She was born on September 22, 1919 in Brooklyn, PA. to Bort and Mary Corte Colo Molin. On September 20, 1947 she married Roy W. Trask who survives.

Rose graduated from Wellsville High School and from Rochester Business Institute in Wellsville. She went to work for Umiker's Market in Wellsville and later moved to Detroit, MI. In 1944Rose joined the WAC's and served as a medical technician leaving the service in 1945 as a corporal. She returned to Wellsville and went back to work for Umiker's. She later worked at Frederick's Market and at Linza's Meat Market as a butcher and a baker. Rose enjoyed her family, all of her grand children and great grandchildren and playing bingo. She was a member of the American Legion Post 702 of Wellsville, the Wellsville Fireman's Auxiliary and the Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include: her husband Roy; a son, Phillip (Catherine) Trask of Olean; 2 daughters, Sharon Haney of Bolivar and Sheila (Kenneth) Molloy Jr. of Wellsville; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joanne Molin and Mary (Gene) Wilson both of Wellsville; several nieces and nephews

Wellsville, NY - Earl D. Miller of 295 West State Street passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Charles Cole Hospital in Coudersport, PA. He was born on February 16, 1930 in Eden to Raymond and Viola Reed Miller. He was predeceased by his wife Virginia Calhoun Miller.

Earl was the owner of Valley Perennials in East Otto and later moved to the Wellsville area to live with his daughter, Lois Miller.

Donald W. Vossler

Wellsville, NY - Donald W. Vossler of 2724 Miller Road passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011, at Jones Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 18, 1927 to Karl and Bertha Brandes Vossler. On April 19, 1954 in Wellsville he married Janice Shultz who survives.

Don graduated from Wellsville High School in 1943. He later went into partnership with his dad and brother on the family dairy farm. Don was drafted into the US Army in 1955. From 1968 until 1991 he was employed at Dresser Rand in Wellsville. Don never stopped working and stayed busy in retirement. He enjoyed helping his son on the farm and put his work ethic and carpenter skills to task as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Don was a proud and active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He could be found most every day at his church working on the grounds or working on anything that needed to be done. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Men's Club and was a former member of the Allegany County Farm Bureau.

Surviving besides his wife Janice; 2 sons, Daniel (Rosemary) Vossler of Wellsville and Timothy (Tonya) Vossler of Perry, GA.; 2 daughters, Deborah (Bill) Susie of Severn, MD., and Mary (Chris) Minges of West Henrietta; his five grandchildren, Justin and Kayla Vossler, Jenna and Ryan Minges and Anna Marie Susie. He is also survived by his brother Lawrence (Margery) Vossler of Wellsville and a sister Marilyn (Jack) Palmer of Avon Park, FL. Don is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by a son Steven and a brother Walter (Florence) Vossler.

Wellsville, NY - Jean Elizabeth Capizzi of the Hallsport Road passed away on Wednesday, March 02, 2011, at the Jones Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 11, 1925 in Warsaw to Marlin Remington and Mabel Estelle Calkins Bassett Sr. On March 20, 1971 she married Salvatore Capizzi who predeceased her on February 23, 2008.

Jean was raised in Warsaw and for 30 years lived in Angelica. She was a WAC during WWII serving as a dental hygienist and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Jela Hagerman of Perry and Marla (Gary) Wilkerson of Batavia; a son, Eric (Jennifer) Hagerman of Florida; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a step son and care giver Leonard (Maureen) Capizzi of Wellsville.

Jean was predeceased by a brother Marlin Remington Bassett Jr. and a son Gerald Lawrence Hagerman
