Lynnet Dodson Witherell

Wellsville, NY - Lynnet Dodson Witherell, age 67, of Seneca Street passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at the Highland Health Care Center in Wellsville. She was born on March 26, 1949 in Cuba to LeRoy and Beatrice Leal Dodson.

Lynnet was a member of the Wellsville High School Class of 1967. She attended Corning Community College and graduated from the Alfred State College Nursing program in 1991. She began working for Jones Memorial Hospital as a Ward Clerk and worked part time for Doctor Salmon. She began her nursing career at Jones Memorial Hospital in 1991 as an RN. Lynnet later moved to Albany to take the position of Quality Control Manager at the Albany Trauma Center. In the mid 1990’s she became the Infection Control Officer at Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath and retired in 2012 from the CSEA as an OSHA Specialist in Syracuse. Lynnet maintained her seat on the NYS Board of Health until early in 2015. She was very talented and enjoyed playing the piano, singing, drawing, sketching and taking pictures of her family. Lynnet also enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting donating many items to the maternity ward at Jones Memorial Hospital. Lynnet enjoyed traveling, taking vacations, beaches, canoeing, kayaking, merry go round horses and listening to Barbara Streisand. 

Lynnet is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Greg) Teeter of Elba and Michelle (William) Day Jr of Wellsville; a son, Brian Witherell of Prattsburgh; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; an uncle; 4 nephews; several cousins; her close friends, Dianna Fleming and Debbie Buchholz.

Lynnet was predeceased by her parents; her two sisters, Phyllis Piraino and Mary Jane Dodson; a nephew, Ross Piraino.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, May 12, 2016, from 1-3 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. The funeral service will take place at 3 pm with Frank and Paul Piraino presiding. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery and please consider donations to either the David A.
